Yeah there's a lot of awesome back catalogue games that can only be played on the system with 3D effect enabled - and with the facetracking the 3D is actually really good.
I got one last deal, it's my first hand held console since a Gameboy Colour like 20 years ago and I've already put in 10+ hours the last week. There's some fantastic titles and it's very easy to hack to play backups.
I'm a 3DS tragic, but probably to be good value, Mario Kart would have to be $20, except it's $50 ish. If you are undecided, you aren't missing much keeping your money and putting it towards a switch or hopefully a new model switch in the new year. This is nice value for 3DS fans though.
Wont ever be getting a switch, I am an old gen gamer, dont buy anything usually until its end of life/clearance. Last thing I got was a Wii for 28 bucks from the EB sale, still haven't used it
softmod it and play the entire nes/snes/n64/gamecube back catalog for free. wii games are 99% trash
@i7-2600k: Surely it can't emulate 100% Mario Sunshine or F-Zero X? The Gamecube IBM processor is more powerful than the New 3DS.
@[Deactivated]: its basically a gamecube, the original model came with gamecube memory card slots and controller ports and is fully backwards compatible i think the later version consoles towards the end removed gamecube compatability

I actually traded the switch for a 2ds xl a couple months ago. So much happier.
My first handheld since the original grey brick GB. Wasn't happy with the games or the device itself.
I'm mostly a PC gamer, and have just really hated mobile gaming. The 3ds is really a different aspect of gaming, switch felt like more of the same.
@cyrax83: Those are great games on the Switch I agree with you, but I can see where jay6 is coming from, the Switch is basically a Nintendo version of home consoles.
The 3DS and its games, old and relatively outdated as they may be, offer quite a unique experience (the good kind) and I find myself coming back to Zelda (Phantom Hourglass, Spirit tracks), 3D Land, Layton etc. every once in a while when I'm tired of God of War or Mario Odyssey.
Bought it last time it was this price. Good handheld if it's your first time! Nearing the end of it's lifespan though

Nah it's not micro, it's a special size connector, more square shaped than micro. I tried to fit a micro in there but wouldn't work. Could maybe forced it in but not worth it.

Yep, bit silly I know, but it has a proprietary plug so you can't use any old usb charger. They are $5 at the moment but. I bought 2 of the 3ds xl's on the last deal for my niece and nephew, but after playing it I wanted to keep one lol. So bought another one.

@Red Pandas: It comes with a 4gb one. If you are planning to hack it with custom firmware so you can download games you will want a bigger one. I put a 64gb one in and I've got about 9gb free… Just be aware that the process is pretty involved to put custom firmware on. I'm pretty tech savvy and I thought it was a bit advanced. If you are going to only buy games, the 4gb will suffice.

The 3d effect is surprisingly really good on some games, I thought it was going to be a gimmick. You can turn it off if you don't like it anyways. Ocarina of time I played on Nintendo 64 many many years ago and it was amazing. Not sure how it holds up today but I think it will still be worth playing. I bought it also along with Mario World 3d but haven't got around to playing it yet. Have been playing shovel Knight which I really like.

Playing radiant histora at the moment. 45 hours into it. Next on my list is ni no kuno ds. Totally worth it at this price if you like rpg style and casual gamings.

Totally. You can play in 2d or 3d whichever you prefer. But 3ds xl is slightly heavier than 2ds xl pokemon

Depends on which model of the 3DS XL you receive. Some of the older model had IPS screen while the new model has TN Screen (which is also what the 2DS XL has).

Whoever plays through Download Play is disadvantaged only being able to drive a standard cart.
They both have copies of MK7, whatever restrictions I have with Download Play will probably be a fair handicap haha
