wow absolutely smashing deal at this price!

    • +2

i'm wondering if these deals are hinting the 3DS is coming near end of life, with the Switch in full flight now.

      • +2

There's no major announcement for new games, so I think so.

      • +2

Almost certainly, no doubt about it. Easy way to tell is the direction Pokemon is going.

      • +2

It's life is coming to an end but the 3ds libary is very good and you can homebrew it pretty easily now.

        • yeah homebrew offers some really cool stuff. Its a little grey area but you can do some much stuff with it

    • Especially if you grab a second hand copy of Smash 4 for it ;)

  • +2

Cheapest price on these console. Picked up the 2DS XL Pokeball edition.

  • +3

    (profanity)

  • Wow… that is an excellent price! Too bad I've already got my supercute Pikachu edition that I've been neglecting since getting the Switch and getting into Pokemon Let's go :D

  • +2

i would get the 2DS if you plan to game long period say an hr or more, the 3ds xl is heavier and gets tiring after a while

    • Is the battery life same on both?

      • +1

Depends if you turn 3D on I reckon, when I had a 3DS I never used the 3D though.

      • +1

the 2DS XL battery is SLIGHTLY smaller although it might not make alot of difference in practice

  • +5

    F%*K! arrrrgh

  • Wow. Amazing price for the 2DS!

  • +1

Thanks for posting. grabbed a 3ds.

  • +14

Trying hard to convince myself as a 30 year old I don't need one of these…!

    • +25

      Yes you do.

    • +3

      Do you have finger problems?

That's the only reason I can think of to not get one.

    • -3

Same boat (nearly 33), they may seem cool, but what you need is good PC games.

      • +9

Can't play your pc standing up on the train.

      • +8

Zelda Link between worlds is simply a must play. One of the most underrated Zelda games.

Mario in 3d land pretty good too. Playing shovel knight at the moment and enjoying it.

Some good games on the system but after you've played the standout games it does tend to be pretty thin gruel after that.

        • Take my upvote for playing Shovel Knight

        • -2

Zelda link between worlds was this first one I played. I found it amazing.

Then I played breath of the wild which somehow topped that

    • +13

Close to 40 and I'm getting one at this price eventhough I might not use it. Buying it for the kids or just for nostalgic factor really. The thrill of scoring a bargain sometimes exceeds owning the goods.

Ozbargain gives me that thrill. For sure I'm not the only one

      • +2

I'm with you on that. I'm tempted to buy one just because of the savings. I'm not really a big Nintendo fan but.

    • I bought one just for the zelda games :p

    • +2

Trying hard to convince myself as a 40-year-old but failed

    • 34 and just got one. Awesome for casual couch gaming

  • +7

used my $20 mcdonalds monopoly voucher and got it for $59 :P glad i saved that thing

    • +1

YAY thanks for reminding me! Got a 3DS for $79 :)

    • Never scored an Amazon voucher at maccas. I only went there few times this year heh

  • +1

    Omg this is so cheap!!!

  • +2

If only the 3DS games were cheaper. Good price on the 3DS console

    • The games are terribly priced yeah. Go second hand.

    • Who actually buys 3DS games at this point?

      • I like collecting physical games. Just a pain how expensive some of them are, but there are good deals on them now and then

    • It's very easy to get them through alternative means, much harder since they stopped letting you get them directly from the eshop with freeshop, but still easy (and enjoyable to set up). You can often find good deals around. My local target is putting 3ds their games on clearance, you can pick up Pokemon Moon for $10 new. Might be worth a check at your local :).

  • +1

Didnt need one but thanks i got a 2DS !

  • +3

That's an absolute steal. I really wish I had of realised that buying a DS while in America was a terrible idea as Nintendo still hang on to the archaic notion of region locking consoles.

Also don't forget 6% cashback from CR making them $74.26/$93

    • The Switch isn't region locked - perhaps Nintendo are finally moving with the times.

      • Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, Gameboy Advance and DS games were region free, they just implemented it with 3DS for some reason.

        • To their defence, it started with the DSi and the inbuilt internet browser language/font support and memory limitations.

  • Awesome, but is there any new games coming out for DS?

    • as much as nintendo are pushing for it, not really.

      • Thanks, I'll pass then. Or wait for the pikachu one on sale as those games don't look cheap. Switch already taking lots of money from me… need to resist.

        • I have the Pikachu console and I still bit the bullet. This price is too good to resist.

    • +14

who cares, there's 8 years worth of back catalog filled with great titles, along with NDS compatibility and the virtual console.

      • It's library its much better than the switch. This console is underrated. I have switch and 3ds XL and I like 3ds better has all my Phoenix weight games

    • +1

Lots of good ones already out. All of the Nintendo first party releases are very polished.

  • +1

    Picked up a Pokeball one!

    • +22

Ah you're one of those people. Keep playing games for graphics while we enjoy the actual games itself.

      • +1

Is it a binary choice where you can only have one but not the other?

        • +1

It doesn't have to be binary but you can enjoy games just for the gameplay itself

          • +2

@moorey: The fact remains, this thing is hard to look at in 2018, almost 2019. The resolution is low for a screen this big. We can pretend it isn't true and not mention in so that people's feelings don't get hurt, but it still is what it is.

I own 2 3DS, both are the smaller variant. They were already borderline but the games were enough to look past it. The XL should have had a spec bump to accommodate the larger screen because it does not scale well. I would always take the normal size over it.

            • +3

@lostn: You mean spec bump like creating a whole new handheld, like I dunno… Switch?

The fact is, no one is pretending 3DS is not low resolution? S/NES mini was (still is!) a hit but that's besides the point. People are talking about price point and games. I'm not sure where you're going with the "low res" on an old machine - would you buy a classic car and compare it to today's car, noting that the classic is slow and manual?

              • @moorey:

You mean spec bump like creating a whole new handheld, like I dunno… Switch?

No, a spec bump like in.. iPhone XS Max has a higher resolution than iPhone XS no-Max because of its increased screen size.

The new 3DS already had a spec bump.

The fact is, no one is pretending 3DS is not low resolution?

I think the downvoters are. All I did was point it out.

I'm not sure where you're going with the "low res" on an old machine

It's not an old machine. New 3DS only released a few years ago, and it was already hard to look at when it was new, in XL mode at least.

                • @lostn: 3DS was released in 2011, "New" 3DS 2015. Feeling old yet? :)

      • Keep playing games for graphics while we enjoy the actual games itself.

It's not even about graphics. It's about the display.

You can have good graphics on a shit screen, and you could also have shit graphics on a good screen. They are two separate things.

But a shit display is a shit display. And it's distracting. If you're going to say games are all that matter, we may as well have stuck to the original gameboy which also had games. We don't need new hardware if all we want is games.

    • +2

Love my 3ds but yes I gotta agree. It's got pixels the size of cobblestones.

    • I agree, that's why I stick to the smaller model (the base N3DS). I scratched the screen on mine though :(

  • Wow that's insane

  • Looked in the OP really hard for an AmEx Statement Credit, but couldn't find one. You're dropping the ball, forumninja, I'm disappointed.

    /s

    • Time to move on, statement credit is crap now.

  • So which is the newer console here, the 3ds or 2 ds XL ??

    • +1

      The 2DS XL. It's lighter but doesn't have 3D.

      • +3

Thanks mate, don't need but the ozbargainer in me is urging me to purchase all bargains within sight o_O
        …. must resist…

  • WOW! Awesome price thanks for sharing.

  • +1

Bought 1 each. Now who is going to receive them as Christmas gift?

    • +5

      You

    • +6

      I volunteer.

    • Same. I already have the original 3ds xl and my kids all have original 2ds'. That new 2ds looks very nice.

  • +1

Picked up a Pokeball edition, couldn't pass up that price!

    • +5

Exactly, a nice collectable if that's what you're into. Or just flip it off in the future to mint condition collectors.

  • Fantastic price!

  • great price for New 2DS, btw any good games to buy ?

    • Pokemon, Mario, Mario Kart…..you know the standard Nintendo offering.

      • oh okay, are they still making new game for this handheld ?

        • +1

Not as often since the release of the Switch.

TBH, the 3DS catalog is packed. Heaps of good value games.

    • +1

Fire emblem conquest. I've seen it for 30 bucks before

      • Saw them even cheaper at JB Hi-fi, secondhand though

  • +1

Is the 3DS XL easily hacked for homebrew/etc? Asking for a friend

    • +5

      sure, for a friend :p

      • +1

I got one from Amazon a few weeks ago and it's the easiest hack I've done on a 3DS

        • It's easier than the Wii U I suppose.

  • Got the 2DS

Already have a 3DS XL but 2DS will go nicely for the collection

Had $20 goodwill credit making it $59 in total wow

  • +9

I didn't understand why I just bought one!

    • +1

You can cancel within half an hour no problem

    • +1

The ozbargain experience. The thrill of scoring bargains without knowing what it is, what it is used for, whether you will need it

You don't need to understand. You just need to have money to spend

  • +1

    2DS PIKACHU PLEASE

    • It was $129 a few months ago with the welcome credit for new accounts. Great price back then.

  • +5

    why am i buying this?????

    • +4

Not sure but I bought all three for some reason…

      • +1

You went a bit overboard there buddy.

        • No such thing when it comes to spicy deals like these
