I’m seeing a bargain but why do I need this?

  • +1

I got one for around this price in a previous deal, recommend if you want to get/use cast iron (and have a use for more than just a frypan).
Lid works upside down as a frypan. So it's like a 3 in one. Frypan, deep pan, and together a mini oven thing cos it heats evenly all over.

    • I'm beginner to cooking, is this like better than baccarat or scanpan pans?

      • If you learn how to properly use and care for cast iron pans (Lodge is one of the best brands) you will be able to pass it on to future generations, can't really say that with non-stick pans.

There are certain things I do prefer to cook in a high quality non-stick pan though, like eggs.

      • I'm not the right person to rate like that, I use whatever-brand pans usually.

I'd just say that cast iron items are different, with different pro/cons, rather than better/worse.

As @Daemos said - cast iron can last a lifetime, whereas the (whatever branded) pans I've had for around the same price range don't last that long before starting to warp or lose their coating etc.

It has better heat retention properties and more even heat dispersion. But it takes longer to heat.
It's a different cleaning/maintenance process, which can seem a bit of a pain when you're used to just washing everything as usual.

Do a little reading about cast iron pans/cooking - people who get used to them tend to love them (at least for some things), people who don't learn how to use them seem to dislike them.

  • Not sure if I need it but got one anyway, just a little worried about how hot the handle might get.

    • You can get one of these anytime if you feel like it. Silicon Holder

Grab it with a tea towel

    • FYI the handle will get as hot as the rest of the pan… you'll burn yourself without enough layers between your skin at this thing

  • Its always been this price on Amazon. For some reason they have turned up on Price Hipster.

  • I cant find the dimensions of it? What's the diameter

The 5 quart is $61 too.

  • Any deals on the 30cm pan? 26cm is too small I find.

Thanks OP. Need to adjust price on 3.2 Quart combo - now just $40.44! Just have to look through deals for something to bump it into free prime delivery. Box of BIC pens - 24 for $11.67 - will do it.

    • I would recommend the Lodge LDP3 Rectangular Cast Iron Reversible Grill/Griddle as an add-on purchase. $34.82 (at the moment) and is a great thing for using two burners/elements in the kitchen and having a large grill space. Also great for using on a Weber Q (not sure if it would fit a Baby-Q).

  • Thanks
