Wow, even cheaper! I don't have club catch so shipping was an extra $7.95.

      • +4

Even with club catch free shipping still requires a minimum $45 order.

  • Is it actually any good?

    • +19

      No, will damage the edge.

      OK for cheap knives.

      • +2

exactly….would you trust your knives to this? Stick with your steel if I were you!

        • +8

You can't sharpen a knife with a steel. A steel doesn't sharpen a knife, it hones it.

          • @spaceflight: Agree. A steel is only really good for a pre-cut touch up

      • Better but use the knife, all use damages knife edges :)

      • Define cheap please

        • +5

          Like inexpensive.

    • +23

I have this and it is terrible.

    • +1

The whole design is flawed and the grindstones are tiny.

  • +3

Make sure to use "WELCOME10" to get it for $5.94

    • +4

Bummer, wasted my $0.60 weekly allowance.

      Thanks doweyy!

      • +3

This is why you aren't a power user.

        • +14

With power comes responsibility. I'm happy being a pleb.

          • +4

            @Taegukgi:

            With power comes responsibility.

Mr Morrison would like to disagree with you.

      • Did you at least activate the Shopback or Cashrewards?

        • +17

Oh dear, I forgot that as well. I got kicked in the head at taekwondo tonight, is that an eligible excuse?

          • +6

            @Taegukgi: No. No excuses.
Hand in your OzBargain membership on the way out.
You should be ashamed of yourself.
How can you call yourself an OzBargainer when you make the biggest of mistakes like forgetting to use Cashrewards?

          • @Taegukgi: No but learning taekwondo is

Their code "BLACKFRIDAY" is working for 25% off :D

      • Nice find!

      • Damn.. Miss out on this discount..

  • +2

Got this last time and it was a good buy.

Easy to use and doesn't strip off as much metal as what my electric sharpener did which is a plus.

Would only use this on cheap knives with symmetrical blade edges. Do not use this on quality Japanese steel.

    • What's the best way for mum and dads to sharpen a good quality blade?

      • +1

        One word: Whetstone.

It's the only other stone that makes panties whet.

      • -1

A knife sharpener will not damage a quality knife. The only sort of blade you can't use them on is the single sided blades.

The IKEA one is good for normal blades
        https://ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/art/30289170/

        • A knife sharpener will not damage a quality knife.

Yes, they will, these type of sharpeners will ruin the edge.

          • @Scab: Only if you have a single edge blade.

These are just ceramic rollers in the shape of a V / arch that has an angle of around 35-40 degrees.

Unless you are skilled at using a stone and can get 20 degrees on each side then you are not going to sharpen the knife as well as any knife sharpener will.

Using a stone improperly will create an uneven arch which means the edge will fold over and you will end up with a dull knife.

            • @spaceflight: Never said anything about a stone, and these sort of drag through contraptions will damage the edge.

Sharpen a knife with one, then use a loupe and check the edge and you'll see the damage.

There are much better sharpeners like Minosharp or Spyderco but they cost more.

      • AccuSharp.

        Around $30.
        Ouch.
        Price and finger cuts.
        Both.

  • I got this for $4.95 delivered thanks to headphonejack

It is decent for my budget knives. Don't have any expensive knives to try it on. Worth the $4.95 I paid for it.

If I knew the deal would be this popular I would've posted it at the time!

    • +13

I have to be blunt here, never under estimate the sharpness of a deal on OzB, it can get you on the pointy end!

    • +3

Well that was a pretty cutting remark. Looks like tuftsdude got stabbed in the back.

    • +1

      Seriously, I get your 'point'.

But sometimes you have to 'cut' your losses

    • +1

Guess I just need to… Sharpen up ;)

  • Thanks bought one

  •  a previous post for House, someone provided the 'freeship' code for free shipping, don't know if this still works or not. Might have expired

    • +1

I didn't need to use that code to get free shipping.

  • +3

    Perfect deal for bikies.

  • Got one…thanks

  • Thanks chibot, now I just need to buy a good knife set to go with it.

  • I'll wait for the Blackjack knife sharpener thanks

  • +1

Hi OP, just curious if you have any chef knife deals?

    • I would like to know this too

      • @Sopzo as you are in VIC take a look at their Outlet here there are plenty of knives on sale including chef knives.

      • yeah, chef knives are expensive and rarely go on sales…

  • buy and ask later. so what does this thing do……

  • +1

Slightly off topic but if anyone is interested the BLACKFRIDAY code is working on pet treats. Just not food

  • Thank you

  • Got one thanks.

  • They are so going to be out of stock. But hey, I've ordered one anyway :-)

  • hmm.. too many upvotes, I see an obligatory "sorry order cannot be processed" email :(

  • $4.95 and free shipping. Thank you!!!

    https://www.house.com.au/product/baccarat-wolfgang-starke-sh…

Anyone know if these are any good? What are the main differences with honing knives and sharpeners/blocks?

  • Thanks, needed something like this. Cheers

  • -6

Thanks, just bought 20 to resell at the markets!

    • Only kidding… two. One for myself (some cheap Wiltshire knives need to be sharpened. Honed that many times…) and someone for Christmas.

Wouldn't usually use one but they are for my cheap crappy knives anyway.

  • Cheers OP, got one.

  • +1

Malcolm Turnbull’s Xmas gift to the Liberal Party

  • cheers got one, likely only use the ceramic side because the other side will destroy the knife edge, also only use light pressure.

  • +3

People who used this are saying it's bad, but OzBargainers are still buying it because it's cheap. Lol

    • +1

I think those people are using knives that most people don't use

    • It sharpens my cheap knives that only cost a few bucks so I don't have to replace them, why not!

      • Can you recommend some cheap knives?

        • Just go down to your local $2 shop megastore, I've picked up some of my favourite knives there. Put it together with this and you've got a bargain!

        • aldi sells good cheap knives, or you can buy a Kiwi knife via ebay under 10

  • +1

    Well found OP.

  • +2

Is it just me that didn’t get a confirmation email or order number for their order?

  • Thanks OP. Cheers

  • Got it for free as part of another deal. Still cost too much…

  • Thanks got one for my fishing knives

Still using the Japanese king whetstone block for my kitchen ones

  • +1

I have one exactly like that and it's not very good…for a while it'll sharpen a little bit but in the long term, it doesn't really last.

  • +2

It looks like the deal is over, the link goes to "Page Not Found" and I can't find this product on their website anymore either.

    • Yep, it's done. Please mark as expired, mods.

  • +4

    Missed out?

The Good news is you can buy the identical product (Minus the word Baccarat) for AUD$3

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Kitchen-Ceramic-Knife-Sharpe…

    • So not really worth $49 as claimed. Not sure if it's worth $5 either.

      • $49 is just a fanciful RRP. There is no evidence this sharpener has ever sold for more than about $15.

Still,$5 delivered (from Oz) seems pretty good.

    • Thanks, helpful.

Don't forget the GST on top.

    • +1

I find the brand names are better quality (specc'ed up by the factory). That being said, the quality difference is usually so minimal… I chose to pay the extra couple of dollars for the brand name and the quicker delivery

If it was $3 vs $20 then I'd go aliexpress alllllllll day :)

  • I received a shipping notification on 04/12. I still haven’t received the package, and checking the tracking number on the Aus Post website, the status is “We’ve got it (shipping information approved)”. Anyone else the same?

    • Got both of mine today.

  • +2

Got an email saying due to high demand, it’s out of stock but they’ve shipped out the upgraded model at no charge: https://www.house.com.au/product/baccarat-id3-3-step-knife-s…

To be honest, I totally forgot about this

    • Got the same email, not bad for a $5 bargain

    • Has anyone received theirs? I also got an email saying I would get the upgraded version but haven't heard anything since.

      • Never Received anything despite recieving the same email as you did / Have sent them 2nd email just now as they did not reply to my first email at all

  • +1

I came here to say the same thing.. totally forgot about this until I received the email a few minutes ago.. also getting the upgraded version with the extra slot
