  • I like iaoMi XD

  • iPad regularly goes on sale <$400, why would you buy this?

So you dont have to use itunes…….. Apple hardware is super nice, but I loathe itunes…. Not that I have one of these, but thats the reason I dont have anything apple.

      LTE

    • +4

Nope, LTE model with that much storage is gonna cost you $670+ for Apple. Plus you can add expandable memory, and much easier to copy movies/files.

Just a heads up for anyone considering - I ordered one of these from Joybuy during Singles' Day Sale (11 Nov), and it still hasn't shipped yet. They're also saying that they're having to ship via slower methods as "Customs is refusing anything with batteries."

    • +1

What a joke. I DHL'd mine (non LTE, as I only use it in bed) that I got on AliExpress.

    • Negging for a significant issue with the retailer which we have found means they will not deliver the product.

    • 1-2month delivery time seems to be the norm during 11.11 until end of xmas every year unless you get it delivered by an express international shipping company
they get absolutely swamped with orders during this time and i'd be more understanding towards it if they were just more transparent with when they actually pack/dispatch
i waited 2 months for my note 4 in dec last year

i bought another note 4 for my mum from ebay and it came in a week, so you might want to look into ebay as well, especially with the giftcard deal on the frontpage

This is not a problem of volume - the courier is not shipping the items due to the battery. "The estimated delivery time frame will be 30-40 days after your package is resent.", that's on top of the 30 days waiting for it to be resent.

        • +1

The battery is an excuse to delay shipments and is only a problem in power banks coming out of china. Consumer electronics like vacuums, phones, laptops, flashlights, etc. have no problem getting through
Chinese wholesalers which are either backed up or waiting for the lowest cost shipping containers will first ensure they have your payment locked in then sock you with some excuse as to why your parcel is slow. If you complain they'll draw out the process by going back and forth with you for a few days until they then reimburse you with a partial refund or loyalty points on their site. It's a game of buying time and they've perfected it.

LITB did this to me last year, they said it was shipped 5 days after i paid but the tracking number said they shipped it an entire month after taking my payment, meaning it was sitting in some warehouse somewhere and then stacked in a shipping container until it filled up until it finally set sail which took another 2 weeks.

I am on the same boat as you. I placed an order on 10/11/2018 and they are still not shipped out yet. Today, I contacted their customer service and they asked me to wait another 3 days to get an answer from their carrier. I strongly demand cancellation of the order and refund but they kept saying please believe us. I said I will wait one more day and will open the PayPal dispute if you don't cancel the order. Never had any issues with purchase from Gearbest or Geekbuying but JOYBUY is the first bad experience.

I pulled the trigger on this from geekbuying during 11.11, happy with the purchase
spent a few days researching how to flash this thing and now mine is running xiaomi.eu's custom miui10 rom with OTA updates and google store on it
i also rooted it and put adaway to block (most) ads and youtube vanced which gives me a sort of youtube premium experience with no ads and a floating window option as well as background playing when i turn the screen off
they also released the kernel a few days ago so people are working on their own roms, can't wait to see what they bring out in the future

    • Thanks for mini review Exley. I've just started researching this tablet. Quick question, can you do Netflix in HD on your build? Haven't found a straight answer on if lack of DRM can be gotten around yet… Cheers

      • +1

I don't have netflix but I don't think you can since xiaomi doesn't buy the licensing for HD netflix for their phones/tabs
        but
I've heard people have messed around with custom roms and unofficial apk files which give temporary workarounds which lets you stream netflix in HD until they decide to patch it blocking the function again until the next workaround comes
this is a xda-developers question that's how i fixed my mi pad up in the first place, best of luck

        • Gotten mine from Ali express within less than a month time from the single days promotion. By the way, can you share me details to root the rom?

          • +1

@Jelosoda: I'll just post it here I hope you don't mind

            1) This thread: http://en.miui.com/thread-3196420-1-1.html
            2) Instead of Part 5 with their TWRP I used this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-pad-4/how-to/recovery-tw…
It's the newest TWRP and it comes with magisk so you're able to root it in TWRP easily without downloading their noverity de-encryption zip since it does it for you (their TWRP bootlooped my device and i had to flash the chinese rom to try again)
don't run it as admin despite what the thread says
            3) xiaomi.eu rom can be found here, it's the one called clover: https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/miui-10-0-10-1-stable-re…

Any error messages just google search it and you'll probably find it with the solution
I also watched a few youtube videos with the TWRP installation and flashing, apparently it's mostly the same among all xiaomi devices

any bootloops reflash with the official chinese miui10 rom with Part 4's fastboot program with this rom link: http://bigota.d.miui.com/V10.1.1.0.ODJCNFI/miui_MIPAD4_V10.1…
Re-flashing should take around 3mins max, very easy and acts like a checkpoint

            • @[Deactivated]: Do you need to wait for 360 hours to unlock the bootloader? I managed to get the unlock approval but when trying to unlock it requires me to wait 360 hours. Anyway to bypass?

              • @Jelosoda: I didn't have to since i bought mine off a wholesaler who flashed their dev rom
you should check to see if your mipad is unlocked (high chance it is) by rebooting and seeing if the bottom part shows an unlocked padlock

Just a warning when buying from joybuy. Ordered a mipad 4 last singles day with the "8-12 days" shipping and until now my item has not arrived yet. They said package have issues with custom regarding bulit in battery?.

  • +2

Deal is good but JOYBUY cannot make delivery happen.

  • This was$300 on singles day fyi

    • Where was this $300? Having a quick look back the best is around $375, pretty similar to this deal

  • +1

A bad price and bad seller. They cannot ship tablets due to the batteries. They won't bother telling you this at any point - they will just take your money. A lot of people are going through the process of chargebacks from their previous deal on 11.11.

    • They cannot ship tablets due to the batteries.

Do you have any evidence to support this (besides a self-serving statement from the supplier)?

      • They have not delivered any of the tablets that OzBargain users ordered on 11/11. They are blaming shipping batteries. No matter what the underlying issue we are not receiving what we paid for and having to go through the PayPal refund process.

    • What do you have that is a better price? Seems like the delays in shipping are real bad which I wasn't aware of. I'm happy to buy elsewhere though

      • This is odd, they shipped my phone no problem at all.

  • Did anyones mipad come with some simcard inside? It was sealed but has a 128k "WO" USim?
