    Will .. not … Buy .. more … Storage …. Great price!

  • Any way to tell if it's a red or white inside? Or purple?

    • +2

No way to tell unfortunately. I’ve never heard of anyone finding a Purple in one of these Elements enclosures, only Reds and white-label drives.

      • Yeah it's always either white or red.

    • +1

Helium white (99% sure). Check /r/datahoarders fot more info

  • The code doesn't seem to be working for me. I get this error-

ERROR Sorry, the promo code NEWEGG2018AUS you've entered is invalid.

I haven't used the code before.

resisted the $205 8TB seagate SMRs
resisted the $207 8TB WD elements
resisted the $222 8TB WD MyBooks
missed the $180 8TB seagate SMRs with $30 off promo (glad i missed it now)
resisted the $140 6TB seagate SMR with $30 off promo

      got 2x of these.

edit: AUD$553.38 total cost for two delivered.

  • That's not the price each, inclusive of GST and shipping for 3 disks, is it?

    • It includes both of those but it's not thr final price. The final price will be actually $1-2 more

    • But you need Prime to avoid the shipping.

      • Yeah true. In that sense newegg is better

        • +3

Just sign up for a free 30 day Prime trial? It'll get here a lot quicker with Amazon (even from the US) than from Newegg.

I ordered something Friday 16th Nov from Newegg, it took till Monday to post it and didn't leave the US till Wednesday night and didn't arrive in Sydney till Sunday night. They're stupidly slow. Amazon I've gotten most things posted the same day and to Perth within a week.

      Sweet, and better cashback too!

      • Yeah I forgot about that. After that cashback the price comes to ~$254!

    • Sold out on Amazon.

      • +1

It's a temp OOS. You can still order at that price

  • +2

Man tonight is a bad night…

  • I think matching to this deal on officeworks would be better. Local warranty plus 5% lower price

    • but officeworks don't sell this one, from what I can see

      • Really? I thought they did? I think it's worth confirming

  • +1

Damn 10TB. If only there was a way to just combine my 1 and 2TB drives into a single unit.

    • Raid. Probably Raid…5? From memory for this purpose.

    • +2

10TB is a lot to lose when the drive conks out.

    • buy new. sell old. there is a decent second hand market for 1TB+ HDD. i've recently seen 3TB drives go for $75 ish.

    • Sticky tape

    • unRAID

    Okay this is pretty neat.

Does anybody know the difference between the WD Elements advertised here and WD Easystore hard drives sold at Best Buy in the US?

    https://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-easystore-10tb-external-usb-…

The WD Easystore is available for around ~AUD250 from Best Buy but you need to really have someone in the US to ship it to or go into a store and buy it. Also comes with a free 32GB USB stick.

I was thinking of shipping the WD Easystore to a friend in the US as the hard drives are also the white labeled reds, but this looks a lot easier because I can get shipping from Newegg.

    Cheers!

    • The Easystore is a bestbuy exclusive, you can’t get it anywhere else. Otherwise it’s extremely similar to the Elements, same variety of drives inside just with a different enclosure. if you’ve got a friend to ship to in the US that’s probably a better deal if they’re willing to handle that.

    • +1

It's exactly the same drive. WD100EMAZ-00WJTA0

Btw, forget both newegg and bestbuy. Order from amazon with 8% CR CB which brings the price down to $254!

      • <3 thanks you!

  • Thanks. Got two.

  • WD or Seagate for large storage?

    • +2

Seagate have the chance of being an SMR drive inside. Which is not optimal for some uses. The WD drives on the other hand, especially in large sizes tend to be WD red or white label red drives which are ideal for raid arrays.

I plan on shucking the drives to use as internal drives and so I waited for WD drives at a good price.
