Telstra is offering free data to existing customers. I had it applied on all of my accounts (2 services, 1 data share sim) and it was on top of the last 5gb data bonus. The data share sim just keeps giving.

      Tip: route yourself through to accounts/payments rather than sales. Same if threatening to cancel etc.

    I'm a business customer with 8 services. The rep told that if it isn't on their website they're not offering it. Instead they tried to sell me a new 12 month consumer BYO SIM contract.

  • I was also told that it could be applied, but then when the agent attempted to do it he said it wouldn't work because I already had a previous 5GB bonus data applied from the last deal.

    So if you missed the last one, good time to get it now.

      Trying to get it now but there's a long wait for a consultant …

        My thoughts exactly, the chat guy said he can only see Telstra sites so might be safe for now.

        • Don't believe it though. They either clicked it or just reported it to their manager. In the past they have stopped offering bonuses after ozb leaks.

          When I got my plan recontracted and tried negotiating via chat the person was like "sorry a lot of websites have been saying we give discount so we're not allowed anymore"

      • djprima, get them to change the plan to the $39 30gb plan. My wife and I were both on the $49 20gb plan and changed yesterday with no fees. I was only a few months in to that plan too.

  • On my 2nd chat attempt, the rep said that they would apply to the 5GB bonus. But it's been about 20 minutes now and nothing has changed in my account.

    Also, I haven't received the chat transcript… Not good.

  • I just switched to the BF deal instead. 15gb bonus data and $10 off per month. $39 for 30gb is a pretty good deal. Was previously $49 for 20gb. They have no issues recontracting to the same level plan, no extra charges incurred.
    Even if you had to change your contract to the next level up, it could possibly be the same price due to the $10 off per month.

  • They gave me an extra 5gb and discounted my plan by $10, now on $39 for 30gb which I'm very happy with. I had no issue at all, agent originally offered me $59 for 60gb but offered the the $39 plan when i refused that.

  • Thanks OP - had mine applied. They offered a (imo) good deal to recontract but I'll switch out afterwards and take advantage of the JB deal when it comes around

    Not sure if others did but i am on the $30 prepaid and a week ago got a 25gb bonus to my data bank! I didn't request, just was confirmed by a text

      Looks like they Introduced a new prepaid that is $30 with 8gb a month with a 22gb extra for the next 5 months.

      I'll be updating my prepaid to this when it is near its end period

  • Just got told it's only for re-contract and I don't want to lose my shared data capability (my phone, wife's phone, $5 SIM in car). Will try again later.

    • At the start of the chat I asked for both $10 discount and 5gb data. They stated the data is only for re-contract and I told them I would rather not increase the length of the contract and have it applied to my current contract like other people I know have done today. They said they would have to ask their supervisor which I replied no problem. In the end I got the 5gb applied without an issue but they refused to add the $10 discount.

      Spoke to a second person and they immediately applied it with no fuss.

    Bummer. Been told it's applicable on $49+ (before discounts) plans. I'm on the JB Hi-Fi's $45 plan - so no luck.

  • Tried to get it but was knocked back as our phones are on a business plan.

  • For me they said it was only for recontracting services, but I said other people didn't recontract and still got the bonus data. Then they asked if I received an email link for the bonus data. I said no because my partner gets the emails for the account. Then they checked with their supervisor and agreed to apply it against my partner's mobile number. Didn't bother pushing to see if they would apply for both mobiles. We have shared data and only rarely reach our limit anyway.

  • Can confirm this. Just organising this (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/419650) offer via chat. The linked URL is still up and active and the agent just said this offer is still active. Anyway she upgraded the accounts I have with the extra 5GB without asking.

    Managed to get the 5gb bonus data, and talked him into adding peace of mind too. Had to re-contract which didn't bother me since I had already re-contracted last month. So all up 35Gb and Peace of Mind for $39 a month. Pretty happy with how this one went.

    I have signed up the $69 40GB unlimited plan with $10 credit per month a couple of months ago. Initially was told this 5GB bonus deal was only for new and re-contracting only. After live chat agent checking my account details and discovering that the current plan I have had been upgraded to 60GB. So I switched to the new plan and now I have 60GB + 5GB bonus + $10 credit per month for only $59! How sweet is that!

    • Well thanks for this, I complained about my plan having an extra 60gb to it even tho I never got it. They added the 60gb to my plan now and I have 120Gb!

  • I contracted earlier this year. Told by two separate agents that I could not get it without recontracting for a minimum of 12 months. May be subjected to contract exit fees as well.
