BLACK25

Hi OzBargain,

I’m Aidan from SimsDirect, welcome!

A big thank you to everyone who purchased and supported us in our Japan SIM deal last week and hello to anyone who hasn’t met me or the team before.

SimsDirect is all about helping Aussie travelers connect while overseas, we offer prepaid travel SIMs for over 100 destinations worldwide. So if you or someone you know is traveling in 2019 this is a great time to snag a discounted prepaid travel SIM for your next trip!

We are currently offering 25% OFF - All Travel SIMs until Monday 11.59PM for Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Thought we would jump on the hype and see how it goes!

I’d like to start the deal with a quick story about us but if you don’t have time to read or you have read it from our previous posts. It’s all good, just scroll down to ‘The Deal’ :)

I started SimsDirect with my best mate in February this year and can confidently say it has been an absolutely crazy ride for the two of us. We have had an explosive year of growth and the amount of support and positive feedback we received from Aussie travelers has been awesome.

In the past 7 months, we have moved into an office, brought on our first employee and learned a lot about growing and managing a business. It has been extremely fulfilling to build SimsDirect from scratch and an incredible feeling to be able to help thousands of Aussies travel connected overseas.

However, it hasn’t been all rainbows and unicorns. Mac and I are both in our mid-twenties and we have never owned and operated a business before, so unsurprisingly, we’ve made plenty of mistakes and had our fair share of difficulties to overcome. We don’t always get it right, but the one thing that's pushed us through is looking after our customers and appreciating every bit of support we receive. We wouldn’t be here without the love and support of not just Ozbargain, but every customer we’ve been fortunate enough to help.

So why am I telling you all this? Well, we want to see how far we can take SimsDirect! It’s going to be a long journey but we are going to take a crack at becoming Australia’s leading Travel SIM brand and to help as many Aussie travelers as we can. We aren’t going to be able to do this without your feedback and support so please let us know your feedback in the comments and leave an upvote if you see value in what we are trying to do!

Thank you for reading,
-Aidan and SimsDirect Team

    • The best option will be our Europe SIM (first product listed). It works in Sri Lanka & Singapore :)

Let me know if you have any further questions!

      • awesome - so why would anyone go for the 4gb asia one which is the same price for a third of the data and half the amount of time?

        • It works in different countries.

The only reason the 4GB one is the same price is because it's bloody expensive for us to buy haha!

          -Aidan

  • Hi Aidan,

For the Asia 15 days travel sim, what would happen once the 4GB data is used up and also can I access Gmail or whatsapp in China through the sim?

    Thanks

    • Hi sfac,

Once the 4GB is used up the SIM will be useless, you can just chuck it out.

You will be able to use Gmail/Whatsapp no worries!

      -Aidan

  • I’m going to INDIA for 3 weeks. Do you have a sim I can use for 3 weeks?

    • Hey Sakinah!

We don't have a SIM that will last for longer than 3 weeks with India!

My recommendation would be to grab x2 of our ASIA SIM card

      Hope that helps!

      -Aidan

  • Good evening. Got any Sims for Fiji?

    • Hi Sharkfan,

      Nothing for Fiji unfortunately!

  • Hi I'm off to USA and Europe next year ~April 2019 when does the Explorer card expire?
I think your site said no expiry is that correct?

    • Hi KBZ,

You can hold onto the Explorer SIM as long as you need.

Hope you have a blast! I'm Jelly!

    Hi there,

    They seem a bit expensive?

I can buy an unlimited call text (and maybe even data) sim in HK or china for super cheap. I'm a little confused whats the benefit of buying through you guys instead of when I arrive in China / Hong Kong next week?

    • Hi Mark,

There is definitely more superior SIM cards in China locally in terms of data allowance etc. This is mostly because local Chinese SIMs are region locked whereas our China Unicom SIMs are 'travel SIMs'. So they are intended for people who are venturing all around China. They also work in Macau, Tibet, Taiwan and HK as a bonus.

The main reason people buy is for convenience sake, some people don't want to bother getting one when they land (might not be as China-savvy as others) or simply want to buy from an Australian business with Aussie support.

If you can get better option locally in China I would urge you to go with that! Whatever suits you best.

Hope that clears things up a little :)

        Thanks for the reply, appreciated.

      • okay purchased one to test it out :). Flying next Fri morning so fingers crossed I get it in time hah

          • @SimsDirect: Didn't arrive in time unfortunately. Flew 1am Friday and ordered Monday

  • I will be IN HK(one week) and possibly Macau for a day. Which one do you recommend?

    • Hi yolow,

I'd recommend Our 15 Day SIM

If you need a little more data then the ASIA SIM is also an option :)

      Cheers,
      -Aidan

If you can wait until you exit customs at the airport I would recommend Discover Hong Kong Tourist SIM Card - $118HKD ($21AUD) version which now supports both Macau and Hong Kong for 8 days (5GB) + 5 days (1.5GB data rollover). You can buy it at the 7-eleven at the international airport and the airport has free wifi as well.

Otherwise if you must have data for the 15 to 30 min period between when you land and enter the airport then buy SimsDirect SIM.

Just a note when entering Macau you must make sure that it roams and selects CTM network as my automatic selection chose China Unicom which didn't allow roaming. That took me around 15 to 30 minutes of stuffing around before we worked that out from some natives who were helping me.

      • A good option ^

        • There's no ID requirements so less red tape. Is it possible for you to import? That way you can have data as soon as the plane touches down.

          • @brisdaz: well also free wifi in hong kong airport and most airports around the world.

For my I bought the sim more as a backup in case I get stuck

  • Hi, there's a nice long country list on this one: https://simsdirect.com.au/products/south-america-12gb-travel…

Could you please confirm that the one SIM will work in both Costa Rica and the USA on the same activation?

    • +1

      Hi gzalyu,

I can confirm that it will work in both Costa Rica and USA in the same activation :)

      Cheers,

  • Anyone know any good Sim cards to use in Fiji?

    • Hi joungs,

      Nothing for Fiji unfortunately!

      -Aidan

  • Will the Explorer Travel SIM Card work in Hawaii also? It has the US listed, does this include Hawaii?

    • Hi kaycn,

It does work in Hawaii, correct.

      -Aidan

  • I'm going for an South East Asia cruise, thailand, cambodia, singapore and koh samui. Does the SEA SIM card would work while i'm in the cruise?

    • +1

      Hey mysrh,

It will work when you are docked or close to land, but the further out to sea the more likely you won't have reception. You may have to rely on the ships wifi for this, but it can be very expensive, so be careful.

      -Aidan

  • Hi
I will be going to Japan - just Sapporo and skiing at Niseko. Will the Softbank network coverage work for the ski resorts - Niseko Hirafu, Niseko Village, annapuri and hanazono (sorry if I've spelt these wrong). I tried looking up the Softbank network coverage on your last deal but didn't have much luck as it seemed it may or may not cover these areas. Can you please confirm? Our main base will be Hirafu.

    Thanks

    • Hi Howdydoo,

I can't confirm from personal experience, I can only recommend what the SoftBank network covers. So if you checked the network and there is no coverage in those areas then I would say to go off that.

Like any country, the further remote you go the more difficult it becomes to get coverage.

      -Aidan

  • Just purchased the 8 day 5gb Japan sim. It seems it's on preorder now. I need the sim by christmas, am I good to just wait for it to come back in stock?

    • Hi cathole!

Thanks so much for your purchase 🙏:)

Thats plenty of time, give us about an extra week to get the new stock and you will get an email with tracking as soon as your order is out the door.

      Cheers,
      -Aidan

      • thanks mate

  • usa and europe for around two weeks on May next year for about two weeks. what is the best deal and sim?
    thanks

    • Hi hishaken,

If you are going to USA and Europe for 2 weeks each, then I would recommend grabbing a Europe SIM and a USA SIM

If it's 2 weeks in total (1 week each), then just the Europe SIM will do, as you can roam the data in USA. Just fyi, the calls and texts will only work in Europe so you won't have the calls unless you go with option A.

      Hope this helps!

      -Aidan

Not to devalue the service offered by the OP, but you can get often get a bit better value sourcing the SIM's indepedently - http://prepaid-data-sim-card.wikia.com/wiki/Prepaid_SIM_with…

    • No hard feelings! There's always better options available, it all comes down to what do you personally need? Some people are happy to sacrifice a bit of value for convenience sake :)

If you have any knowledge of good products from overseas you are always welcome to come share them in our posts, I always like to know what's out there and take a crack at trying to source some!

      Cheers,
      -Aidan

        Thanks Aidan!
Ones I know off by head would be Simyo Spain and Free France for Europe, and China Unicom/Mobile Hong Kong for Hong Kong/China… don't know how easy they are to/if you already source them but I know they have pretty good deals…

  • Ordered one for Japan trip and one for Europe trip. In response to comments questioning the value, I usually get a local sim when travelling, though it is not always a hassle free experience and can take up valuable holiday time (even when pre-ordered for arrival).

    • Good morning tolchok,

Legend! Thanks for your order :D

I'm glad we get the chance to try and make your trip a little less stressful 🙌

      -Aidan

  • Hi Aiden,
I am going to Japan next May for 10 days , which sim card would you suggest for me to get to cover the whole period ? And which carrier does your card use in Japan? Thanks

    • +1

      Hi dk9664,

I would recommend our 15 Day Japan SIM

You will need to place on Pre-Order and we will ship it as soon as we got stock again :)

Let me know how you go!

      -Aidan

  • Thanks OP for the deal and answering questions for other members. Made the difference between me making a purchase or not. Got the Asia 15 day SIM. Hopefully it'll work in the areas of Nepal I'm going to.

    • Hi mafmouf,

No worries! What I'm here for 🤙

Thanks for the order maf! Really appreciate it :)

      -Aidan

  • Thanks Aiden! Never been travelling before so hopefully this removes the stress from having to source a local sim when I go on my 6 week trip next year. Ended up getting:
    * 15 day Asia
    * 15 day Japan
    * 8 day Japan

    • Hi keyman,

Awesome! Thanks for your order 🙏

Just reach out if you need anything from me or the team :)

      -Aidan

  • Decided to put in the order for 15 day China sim after reading the comments. Thanks Aidan for answering the questions and others for posting the alternative ways.

    • Hi Bnabbe,

Legend! Thanks for trusting us with your order :)

And no problem, it's my pleasure.

      -Aidan

  • Thx OP, ordered 2x Bali one.

      Yew! Thanks 🙌

      -Aidan

  • FYI. I am in the states now. Got a $9.99 prepaid sim kit for Mint Mobile from Target. Activated it using my Amazon account as a source of payment. Since they have a promotion for $25 for new activations, all I’ll pay is the $9.99 for the sim kit. I will be cancelling it in a week as there are no lock in contracts but I haven’t gotten that far yet, can’t imagine it’s too hard. Just another possible option for those going to USA shortly or who are currently there looking for a sim.

    • Hi snagseb,

Thats a nice little hack there :P

      Thanks for chiming in!

      -Aidan

      • Sorry, just realised that may have come off a bit rude in your post. Certainly is a cheap little hack. But sometimes it’s good to have things assured and prepared in advance, like you offer with your services. Just thought I’d mention my recent experience. Next time I would probably use a service like yours as I had major headaches with Boost and their lame international roaming services which are beyond a joke.

        • +1

Not at all! I was being genuine haha. I appreciate your input.

          -Aidan

          • @SimsDirect: Oops. Just realised I said mint! I meant ting mobile. I was going to get Mint and went with Ting due to Target being closer.

            • Ting NOT Mint mobile. Sorry!
  • Just ordered a small NZ sim for my 17-day trip. Cheers!

    • Thanks for your order Gorzy :D

    Hi Rep,

    anything for Japan 30 days?

    • Hi penting,

We don't offer anything longer than 15 days, unfortunately!

      Hopefully one day we will.

      -Aidan

  • Perfect timing, just bought 2 Asia 15 day sims for end of next week. Didn't realise Thailand is not covered but I'll deal with it :)

    • Hi foggsy,

      Thanks for your order :)

For Thailand I'd just grab a Tourist SIM from AIS when you land, they are cheap and reliable. DTAC also does something similar.

      -Aidan

  • Perfect! Going to Cambodia next year with a stopover in Singapore. Just confirming that I can switch on this sim in Singapore and then continue to use it once I'm in Cambodia?

    • Hey Rith!

Cheers for the order! Yes, you can do that. It should transition seamlessly between countries. If it doesn't connect right away then just restart your device to kickstart the connection.

      Cheers,
      -Aidan

  • Going to China / Malaysia for two weeks Feb next year. Just ordered the Asia Travel SIM Card | 4GB | Data-Only | 15 Days. Glad I can support a local business. The website is smooth and ultra easy to navigate. And mate… customer service here is second to none, even though many of the questions asked are easily available and accessible on the website. So yeah it's above and beyond. Hope you guys do well in your business - with this kind of service and work ethic you'll go far.

    • Dude, thanks so much for the kind words. It honestly means alot.

Hearing stuff like this from customers always puts a smile on our faces and keeps the engines going :)

We have a long way to go and a lot to learn but definitely keen to see where it goes.

      -Aidan

PS. Thanks for your order and welcome to SimsDirect!

  • Do you have any Sims for the US with unlimited data?

    • Hey scary,

      Nothing with unlimited data, unfortunately.

SimCorner offers an unlimited T-mobile SIM Card that might be worth looking into if you want unlimited.

I can answer any questions you have about it if that helps.

      -Aidan

      • I'm aware of the simcorner unlimited ones but was a bit weary as I saw that they've been banned from posting on ozbargain

        Thanks for the help!

  • I'm hoping to get something for Canada next year in April, but it looks like you've only got data SIMs. Anything with calls/text as well?

    • Hi Chazzozz,

We have new Canada SIMs coming soon. Just keep an eye on the site in a week or so.

      Cheers,
      -Aidan

Awesome! I've tried out that sexy 'Subscribe' button you suggested.

  • Any extra discount if you buy 2 or 3 sims for ASIA 15 days ?

    • Hi rdrooster,

I wish I could! down the track when we are ordering at larger volumes from our suppliers I might be able to offer greater discounts than 25%.

      -Aidan

      • +1

        Thanks Aidan. Bought one.

  • going to order the Canada/USA sim card but wanted to ask, it comes with 3G and then after you use the 3G, does the speed get throttled down or the sim is ineffective no more?

    • Hi prankster,

The SIm will become ineffective. I don't even bother mentioning if our SIM cards are 'unlimited' anymore because the throttled speed is basically useless anyway.

      Thanks for your order! :)

      -Aidan

      • actually i prefer the throttled speed as at least I can use it for google maps or general browsing whilst overseas

i actually used a tmobile sim and it was throttled if i went over so personally this is more for me anyway :)

  • Went to buy the China 30 day SIM at 11:45pm Monday night on Brisbane time but the discount code no longer worked. I guess it is based on daylight savings time :(

    • Hi trainingwheelz,

Yeah sorry, I should have mentioned that! I totally forgot about you Queenslanders!

Send me an email to [email protected] and let me know you're trainingwheelz from OzB, I can sort something out with you :)

      -Aidan

  • Thanks Store Rep.
Was looking to see if you had anything on, and this came.
    Got 2 for USA.

    • Thanks for your order steve!

Reach out if you need anything :)

      -Aidan

  • Did the code stop working few mins early?
Tried to buy explorer but code didn't work
Edit: nevermind, daylight savings, not Brisbane time doh

  • Hi Aidan, Spotted this post at 3 am this morning (don't ask), is there any chance you can extend the black25 discount period? I'm after the 365Explorer? By the way great customer service responses, and this comment isn't made trying to sway you! Cheers

    • Pm'd you walvisch!

      -Aidan
