  • this m.2 or the normal ssd which to get? pretty sure it's same speed right? different form factor

    • It sata based SSD using m.2 interface.

  • Wish this was normal ssd:( I don't have m.2 for my motherboard. Still good price!

  • Hey guys, I bought this bad boy (XPS 8700) 5 years ago.
The 32gb SSD is getting pretty cramped, do you think this M.2 will be compatible?
    Sorry I'm a bit of a noob.
Thanks heaps OP and to the OZB Community!

M.2 only came in with Z97 / Haswell refresh. So doubt XPS 8700 has a M.2 slot

I did manage to get my Z68 to boot off NVME using a bios hack, using a PCI to M.2 adapter. But doubt it'd work on Dell proprietary bios.

Probably just have to get the 2.5 SATA version, which has no speed difference anyway since both are just SATA M.2 not NVME M.2

I would assume no, as you (likely) don't have the required M.2 slot on your motherboard.

^^ This one should work though, but I'll let someone else confirm…

No, the SSD in your PC sits in a MSATA port. You're better off buying the 2.5" version of this drive posted earlier and ditching the cache SSD altogether.

    • Thanks heaps all.
To clarify, if I ditch the SSD cache and purchase the other SSD (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/417224), then will that slot into the same port as the old SSD cache or will that go somewhere else?
@Ragnarok1983 - I'd be game to try the bios hack if I didn't have the Dell bios.

Somewhere else as it's a 2.5" drive. If there isn't a dedicated mount for 2.5" drives it'll be fine in any other drive mount with just 1 screw as there's no moving parts. Heck you can even attach with double sided tape. You also sound like you may not have a spare SATA cable lying around…

        • You're right, certainly no spare SATA cable or adapter so I'll likely have to pick them up.
I just found someone else asking the same question online a few months ago for the exact same computer.
Looks like you're right and the 2.5" to 3.5" is the way to go.
          Thanks again!

Anyone can recommend a gooood external enclosure compatibile to this please, thx.

  • still bought the 2.5inch version, as it is more like to become a heirloom for my future pc or sell them to friends.

  • Keen for the price, waiting for a local seller.

  • Noob questions but what is the difference between this and The Samsung Evo 970?

  • oowww…. should I wait until Black friday and Cyber monday???

  • Showing as $283 (including some shipping) is the there something I am not doing correctly or have they tweaked the prices?
EDIT: seems the Best Sellers section on right side to click through to deal says out of stock.
