What Do You All Do for a Living?

Hi Ozbargain Community,

Curious on what you all do for a living and are you happy with what you do?

EDIT: RE: Troll comments - try to be unique.

Customer service team member at KFC. Best job for a teenager. Great pay and hours

    • +6

You should do an AMA. I'd love to know why KFC has such incredibly slow service no matter what restaurant you go to. There could be 2 customers in the restaurant and they'll still take 10 minutes to give you your order.

      • Probably because they wait to fill an order before taking the next one. Plus drive-thru might get priority

      • You should do one of the KFC walkthrough things that get posted on here from time to time, was actually interesting, and comes with a free meal ;)

      • +1

I worked at KFC almost 8 years ago and I do not think anything has changed. I am still an avid customer and I think it mainly all comes down to processes and under staffing. KFC invests nothing in training or processes and it really shows, McDonald's is all over it when it comes to process engineering.

I think it boils down to the company making enough to just invest in new product/promotions and nothing else. As long as the chicken is selling and the teens are looking for jobs KFC will be the same for a long time.

The product itself is also naturally more annoying to deal with too, chicken takes a fairly long amount of time to fry and requires preparation. Not only this but demand is also managed by the manager and must be done well or else wait times spiral out of control. Chicken takes anywhere from 20-30minutes.

    • @Lockster I'm a shift supervisor - hours aren't great if you're 18+ (I'm in charge of rosters at my store) haha.

      • Yeah but the pays still great right?

        • +1

For fast food it's one of higher paying companies - manager roles are overrated though I'd go back to TM any day haha!

Network Engineer - not happy with my current job at all.

    • +1

Why's that? Am considering studying network engineering, am curious of your experience

      • +1

It's to do with where I work more so than anything. I'm a busy sort of person and let's just say there isn't often enough to keep me busy for an 8hr day. In one way it's good as it gives me time to study other things. Employers don't just want Network Engineers anymore, you have to be able to do Systems type things also so I'll be studying some of this.

        • Do certs and get paid?

        • +1

Heh, I work in Systems/TechOps and wish I had more time to put aside studying, always seem to have my hands full slowly making myself redundant.

    On the dole

    • Visit the hospital emegency once in a while when I am bored

Lol, this should be on a wiki of cheap/free yet entertaining things to do.
It is surprisingly interesting in emergency ward to see who comes in for various issues.
Last visit, there was an idiot that had punched someone and broke his own hand, apparently some soccer hooligan type brawl whereby he justified hitting someone over a soccer match argument that escalated.
On another visit, someone came in with fingers severed from kitchen knife mishap.
      Good free entertainment

      • -2

nah I go in for my own entertainment
just pretend i'm in pain and i get some free opioids or tell them i'm anxious and I get some happy drugs

        • That's pretty slack. You're using up tax dollars that we could be spending on bargains. A true OzBargainer would find the best deal on opioids, then post it here. The upvotes you get would be better than any drug.

          • -1

@User245246: nah…according to Labor half the country should work and subsidise people like me who choose not to work and spend your money
why bother looking for bargains if I dont even have to work to get what I want
just wait for the next centrelink check

Limited studies have examined ideological correlates of the belief in a just world. These studies have found sociopolitical correlates of just-world beliefs, including right-wing authoritarianism and the protestant work ethic.[36][37] Studies have also found belief in a just world to be correlated with aspects of religiousness.[38][39]

      • I read that as "70's star…"
Yeah I'll watch some of your earlier work thanks.

      • Unfortunately only possibly the film size.

        • That's like… 3 inches

    • IMAX!

Working is overrated. Why even call it a career anyways? Is it some fancy word to make yourself proud of having a job?

In before someone mentions my username

  • +8

I'm a lawyer for the Commonwealth government. While the job is nice and has its moments, it helps fund my musical hobbies - I play around 50/gigs a year, which makes it pretty cool.

    • Genre? Covers?

      • +2

May mostly originals, although I do some session (fill in) guitar stuff on the side.

Here's a recent single from one of my bands https://youtu.be/tatpnjxMnfc

    • AGS? Would you do an AMA?
