how does it run with iphone 3g??

  • +1

Reports say the video is slightly choppy on a 3G but still fine. Same performance will be achieved on an iPhone 2G. To be honest I find myself flying by looking at the Drone itself anyway and the screen is mostly used when battling. I'll see if I can round up a 3G and do a test for you!

The 3rd/4th Gen iPod Touch's had the same CPU/GPU as the 3GS so performance will be fantastic on those.

  • Wasn't his $350 delivered a few weeks back?

    • +1

That was without the extra battery.

    • We're still doing the Drone by itself for $349 but this is a pack with an extra battery which is usually $49.95 extra.

edit: too slow in replying :-)

      • Cheers for the info.

  • Hmmm seems to have an Open API (projects.ardrone.org) and some has apparently got it working with Android: www.meavydev.co.uk/ARDrone.html

    Tempting…

    • With video recording… very tempting…
      Have an upvote

    • I have the SDK running at home on my linux laptop. Android source is in there as well, droid doesn't do ad-hoc wifi which is why there isn't anything officially release at present. if you want to jailbreak your droid then its just a case of compiling and installing :) - https://projects.ardrone.org/boards/1/topics/show/234

Controlling it with the PS3 controller is great fun as well (sdk supports this out of the box which is cool). - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TmQPaG1o3Q

I've got a project page here if you're interested. http://wp.daveheavyindustries.com/2011/03/09/op-parot-drone-…

      • "just a case of compiling and installing"… So will work with Gingerbread?
wow dedicated @ inverters, car batteries and high gain antennas!

        • no idea on the android version sorry.
and haha.. yes.. but its all fairly cheap :) networkbrokers are doing refurb cisco gear for cheap, antennas from china. carbattery is spare.
We fly them at newfarm park if you're local to brisbane :)

        • The android version does work well. I have it on my nexus one. It will work best on devices with real multi-touch.

They are apparently using these to do reconnaissance over Libya…

    • And the MFB is using them to examine burnt buildings too dangerous for ground crews to enter (albeit the $25k version)

  • I love remote control flying things even those mini copters, the thing that put me off them is the flying time, less then 10 mins for a 2hrs charge isnt much fun.

I bought one from the US a few months ago, it's balls out fun. My 1350mAh battery gets me about 30-40mins. Not sure if the spare battery is a bargain, there's higher capacity batteries for cheaper on the interwebs, but it is cheap at $30. Fenced. Tempted to buy a second one for my housemate to do AR battles.

      • where did you get the 1350mAH battery?? sourced locally or overseas? I've found a few from china but I'm a little hesitant.

I bought a second one from wow annerley and harvested it for parts to fix the two motors I broke and replaced the indoor shroud damaged while I was "learning to fly" :p

  • Works with the N900 too.
