    I know I will get negged for this but here goes.

    1 - 4K screen with an intel shared GPU = Fail. (Need Nvidia or AMD dedicated GPU)
    2 - "U" Prefix processor = Gutless (doesn't matter even if it is an i7 … need "HQ" prefix)
    3 - Give it 1 year, it will run like a brick after a couple of win/app updates …

      I think you could just stop at 4k screen. On a 13inch I'm not sure you'd gain anything besides squinty eyes with this.

                Alienware .. yes .. it is a division of Dell, but IMO a better built machine.

                I have 3 of these (1 x 13" + 2 x 17") and still going strong.

                Similar price to the OP but can do everything you throw at it.

                I can't see the weight but i reckon it might be a way more heavier than the Dell..

                Edit.. 2.6Kgs .. is a bit heavy and weight similarly to a 15.4" basic laptop.. but there is a compromise when it comes to power :P

      I have this with 8gb and the 5500u QHD that i bought a few yrs ago. The igpu handles 4k output for browser, office applications and media seamlessly, even on this older model.

      Still runs very well for all work applications. The 4k touch screen makes using a 13 screen a lot easier on the eyes and is bright and vibrant. Especially for watching video.

      Battery is still about 80% good as new after I think 3 yrs now.

      This device does not need a dgpu, the case can't handle the thermals. This device is targeted for work and study that doesn't need huge power.

      I would highly recommend this laptop but for the right reasons (not gaming or video rendering).

        The Dell XPS series (Xtreme Performance System) as far as I can remember was supposedly dedicated for a hybrid gaming/performance laptop.

        Going by these specs today, it is becoming a mid-tier laptop and if you want to get real performance, Dell wants you to spend more and get the Alienware.

        However, the 13" Alienware is currently ($500 off clearance) cheaper than this model and will destroy this in every way. The only neg is that it is heavier. (Please see my link to another poster above)

        I wouldn't even buy this for $1500. Not worth the money

        This device does not need a dgpu
        This device is targeted for work and study that doesn't need huge power.

        It shouldn't be called and XPS then. It should be changed to Inspiron

        But that's me.

        I would highly recommend this laptop but for the right reasons (not gaming or video rendering).

          Back when Dell made the m1730 that would hold true, but you can tell from looking at their lineup that XPS is not that and hasn't been for a few years, and that doesn't matter in the slightest. The point is what do you get for your money? You're looking at mid tier components in sleeker packages. It worked for me at the time and still does.

          The tasks that a PC this weight and size is expected to perform mean that being light and portable is a priority, it doesn't make it better or worse than the AW, it makes it different.

          I have the Inspiron 7577 at home for some gaming, I don't take it to work, I take the XPS 13 to work. I have a PC with a great screen that weighs 2.5lbs and takes up as much room as an A4 notepad.

          The fact there are cheaper laptops available doesn't mean anything, this is a good price for this product. What are you trying to say?

            That was a powerful (whilst it was working) overpriced junk that had GPU fails due to poor BGA solder.

      I am not even an Apple person however I am confident that I can answer this question for you .. (based on my .. and other user experiences)
      1 - Apple OS is way more optimised and stable so you get longevity.
      2 - If you decide to sell it, you will always get more for it than the Dell ..

      Go for the iPad pro. if you know the OS

            @vinni9284: If you want to use the ipad pro as a laptop replacement, then don't follow what this guy is saying lol. iOS is not (yet) designed well enough for this type of application. You can't even use external storage to transfer files on it! The only thing you can transfer so far are photos and even then, it is mandatory that you import through iPhotos first.

              If not, then you can always buy an alternative, cheaper/better laptop rather than the Dell.
              Tbh, with my experiences (and other posters below) Dell has the same reliability, as an 1978 model FIAT (none) .. and yes I had a FIAT = rubbish (Fix It Again Tony) lol

      This is probably the worst bang for buck laptop ever, so definitely not this.

      I can't help you choose an ecosystem, but:

      If you want a thin and premium Windows laptop, look into the Asus Zenbook range, HP Spectre/Envy, Lenovo Yogas, or LG Grams. They come with similar specs at around half the price or less. Personally I'd go for the HP Envy x360 with Ryzen APUs, those blow intel laptop cpus performance and battery efficiency out of the water.

          Can't argue with that, the Zenbook range is absolutely massive and confusing, I've seen models with identical specs and almost-identical looks have $1000 difference in price, absolute mess, so I can't say if any of it is particularly well or badly built, but good deals (specs-wise) could be found.

          The Lenovo carbon is also good, but I don't have long-term experience with any of these besides the Dell, so I can't comment on the build quality either. I just didn't think someone going for the XPS would also be considering thinkpads, which looks more "boring", so didn't mention it earlier.

      Be lucky to get even a year. Mine had crazy coil whine, keyboard, and USB issues within 6 months (see below comment). My friend's had the motherboard die within 4 months, but luckily he was in USA at the time and Best Buy's electronics team took care of him.

      Mine is still going fine after 3 years.

      I did have to repaste it after a year due to rubbish Dell thermal paste drying out and causing fans to run excessively, but since then its run like new again. I have the older 5500u version and I can run left4dead 2 on it very smoothly. Just as an example. Office applications all run fine as well including MS Office Online.

      Two issues I had are slight coil whine, and the hinge gave out after 8 months (replaced under warranty). The new hinge is still like new after >2 years.

    Ppl will prob neg me but i've had 2 dell laptops, one recently bought less than 2 years ago. Both lasted less than 2 years before having issues. Last one was a brand new one they couldn't fix so was total write off. Chat with local dealer that handles repairs said they are getting lots of Dell issues. Every other Dell equipment I've had besides laptop still going strong ( e.g. all Dell monitors 8+yrs old still working as new). If you get a Dell laptop, make sure you get a long warranty.

      Same, except my XPS started dying within 6 months. I had the PRO global on-site warranty. Support took months to send a technician over, he fixed some stuff but broke others, then sent another one over 2 months later after many calls and e-mails, basically said he didn't know what to do and promised me that if I get back on the phone with Dell they'll give me a refund or exchange.

      Neither happened, they flipped me off with bullshit factory reset procedures until the warranty was over, then flipped me off again for being out of warranty, despite one of their managers explicitly promising me in the e-mail that once the case was opened, it will not be closed until resolved even if warranty expired.

      ACCC told me I would have to take then to small claims court to right the situation.

      So $2000 for 6 months of laptop, great. Luckily most of it wasn't out-of-pocket, but Dell's CS is pretty much a fraud.

          I'm just a little guy with no lawyer or accountant to prepare documents for me or represent me, and that was during a particularly busy period. Also it just sounds scary as hell to have to go to court etc.
