  • nice find!

picked up 2 for $7 (using $5 credit).

    perfect christmas thrown in .

though reviews of batteries say they are pretty average

might get some ikea batteries to go with it.

      Xmas present?

      Thanks but no thanks

      • "Throw in" = a smaller additional present to go with the main present(s)

        • +1

Ah, ok the typo didn't help. For some reason I took throwN in to mean "sorted"

Personally I'm against stocking stuffers since moving into a house with limited storage space, I've been decluttering via ebay and it's taken about a year now. We buy so much that often doesn't get used or ends up in the tip after being held on to for so many years. Im old enough to be quite alert to the waste I produce. Although I don't apply the same rules to my kids.. They're kids after all.

But fair enough if that's what you want to do

      • Stocking stuffer not main present lol.
And that term can be used loosely, doesn't have to be a literal stocking.

The AAA batteries seem alright at 2500mah but definitely replace the AA batteries.

The AAA batteries seem alright at 2500mah

haven't seen one AAA with that high capacity, well worth that $6

        • +1

It’s actually the other way around, The AA are 2500mah & AAA are 800mah capacity as I just purchased the last 1 from my local Supercheap

          • @custom-consoles: Oh, OP might want to update description then :)
            Thanks for reporting back!

          • @custom-consoles: 2500 still pretty good for AA. I bought a similar charger from kogan for $50. I’m just going to buy this for the batteries for kid toys and just sell the rechargers for $20 on gumtree lol.

      • -2

You must only “celebrate” Christmas for the gifts. Hope you get nothing.

        • +2

          Hello there Mr unpleasant.

First of all, you've assumed I'm part of a religion that does celebrate Christmas. That's quite rude.

Second of all, regardless what I celebrate, I don't care if I get nothing. After a few decades of life, who does? I work and buy what I want at other times of the year and pay less, Christmas is just for the kids and catchups.

Hope you get some new knickers for your festive season. Yours seem twisted.

None in stock in Melbourne online stores

  • +1

Was picking up my click and collect order today and saw this by chance at the checkout. Purchased in a flash. Seems to be a decent charger but batteries did get hot while charging. I got the last one at the Blackburn Victoria store

  • Is this a fast or slow battery charger? Got a similar looking Aldi Active energy one and need to replace it. This matches one of the Active Energy models sold by Aldi (MD-11954). which is a fast charger.

  • +2

Ni-Cd, Ni-MH and Alkaline accepted, interesting.

    • I wouldn't try on standard alkaline

      • Worked for me on my Varta AAA batteries

  • +3

Picked up a few of these about a year ago

Can confirm the AA batteries included are definitely not LSD. They lose charge very quickly on the shelf.

The AAA's are kind of semi-LSD. They last a lot longer than AA, but not as long as eneloops and other quality LSD batteries.

  • Is this a smart charger or timer charger?

  • +2

Not in stock in SA and cant be delivered

    • Yup, such embarrassment

    • That was quick. A couple of hours ago Blair Athol and Para Hills stores had stock. Both are far away from me so I didn't bother.

      • yeah i got one from blair athol. picking it up later, probably got ozbargained when the deal came live. i was needing a charger, since my old one died, so i jumped on to it ASAP.

    • Sigh, what a shame…

  • Recharges alkaline safely? I’ve seen a guy on YouTube do this successfully by using a charger and a timer switch set at 15 minutes on and 15 off to let the battery cool down before starting the recharge again. After 2 hours the alkaline battery was fully charged again.

    • Occasionally you might come across an electronic device that refused to operate correctly, or even turn on, with NiCad or NiMH cells inserted - because their terminal voltage is 1.2V, whereas single use carbon/alkaline/etc. batteries are 1.5V. (They may have used the 1.5V for a voltage reference that was now wrong due the incorrect terminal voltage, or perhaps to create a timing pulse for a processor, etc. who knows.) But without the correct voltage the device 'thought' no batteries were inserted, or the timing was out of whack, or an LCD screen barely was visible… But it's rare to find such a device. I think I owned 2 such devices in my lifetime but I can't even recall what they were.

So why anyone without one of those rare affected devices, would bother buying expensive alkaline cells planning to recharge them is beyond me. They're not cheap, and 99% of people will never need 1.5V cells over 1.2V. People may as well buy Eneloops or the Aldi imitations (which are cheaper but self-discharge sooner - apparently).

    Thanks OP.
With 8 batteries included, good deal, even if batteries are not the best, there is 8 of em plus charger, for $6 :)

Just got 2 for $7 . Anyone can do same, just join supercheap membership for $5, click activation link in email, then when you go to checkout, bonus credit does not automatically apply, you have to click loyalty credit then apply and it will take $10 off for your $5 membership cost :) .

gmx.com is great for a quick disposable type email, if you need to make new account to receive $10 bonus credit with $5 supercheap club signup. gmx do randomly lock accounts though, but only after a few months usually.

The charger and batteries are both garbage. It's likely why they're clearing them out.
Charger charges too fast and batteries get too hot, causing them to fail. When I noted how hot they got I used my usb slow charger on them, but batteries did not last many recharges before low capacity and annoyingly when using 4x AA together, random cells go down to 0.2v damaging them while others still have charge.

For the price… you're still buying garbage, but at least its cheap garbage.

      • +1

Reason why I didn't post this yesterday when I saw it.

      • I find the batteries last longer then my eneloops

      • Thanks for that… I was about to go to a store and buy this.

  • +1

Seems to be sold out in Sydney as well. Was listing in stock but last night but all gone this morning.

  • Great find OP, added to my post as some people were after a charger :)

  • I bought this for $5 + SCA credit few months back. The charging station is good but the batteries provided are crap and few were DOA.

    • Not worth a neg just because it's not available nearby to you.

      • That would be true if not every state has no stock, going to call SCA Menai at 8:30 when they open to check stock, if they do actually have it then I will remove the neg vote.

        • Just because you might have missed out isn't a valid reason either

      • Ok, 1 left At SCA Menai, how do I remove the NEG vote? Guess it is true, doesn't mean a Neg vote if the deal applies to someone that can get it.

  • +1

This looks very similar to an Aldi charger I purchased a few years ago.

  • Thanks OP, great find! Bought 2.

  • I have thisnand use it daily.

Chargers pretty fast and has greeen light to indicate when full

Use it on with SCA and eneloops branded batteries

  • doesnt show in stock anywhere around south east melbourne. Has anyone had any luck ?

  • my credit never showed up in my account, or i'd have gone for one of these!

    • +1

You need to login to your account, it will force a password reset, and then I think you will receive a credit

      • I did that on the weekend but sadly no luck. ah well, it's been a while since we got a no strings $5 credit, maybe they'll start doing them again, I typically spend a few $ when I get one anyway as there's always something I need from SCA!

        • Weekend was too late. At least you should be eligible for the next round

  • Would be a very good deal with $5 credit. But the post is too late … :(

  • can anyone see stock available as i cant in Melbourne ?

  • D'oh! looks like Ozbargained…. no more stock and no delivery so sad…..

  • Bought the last two at Tuggerah still showing stock in a few stores in Nsw

  • Also three of my aa came up as bad when I charged them. Popped them into a dumb charger for 10 minutes they came good

  • Thanks for the post - none in Tas

"Intelligent microprocessor controlled" - Why does it need a switch for the different battery types?

I had an old "Recharger" 4 bay charger from Bunnings, (got it ~20 years ago, still working), it charged NiCad, NiMh, and Alkaline and it's not necessary to tell it what kind of battery was in which bay. Just put a battery in and it'll work out what it is and charge as appropriate, no switches on it at all.

Had to travel a bit further to get this but managed to purchased 2 of the 3 on the shelf near the checkout at West Gosford around 10.30am this morning for $6 each. Web site still showing stock in store at other nearby stores in Central Coast/Newcastle/Central West NSW area.

  • SCA reviewers of this product say that the batteries are very poor, heat up, and smell like burning when charging. The recharger hasn’t even worked for some. The batteries will most likely need to be replaced so don’t hope too much.
