I thought the rrp is $1499?

  • This or xs max?

    • What phone do you have? What do you want out of a phone?

      • Using a iPhone 7 Plus. Want a larger screen phone for YouTube, web browsing.

        Love iOS, hate notch
Like the other two color variants of this Huawei - the emerald and mysterious blue

Might just hold untul xs max has reasonable promotion. the deal has expired anyway.

Huh, hate the notch?? You know this phone has a notch too? Just get the XS MAX.

IMHO Apple or Samsung phones hold value longer if you have to upgrade in future compared to this. These phones are notorious for losing value fast.

I reckon iOS phones have a longer viable life than android ones (and I use android) despite Apple's best attempts to nobble some of them. If you're using an iPhone now I'd stick with it - the OS is good. Having said that I find my Oneplus 6 8/128 is really good (particularly for the money compared to Apple)

  • I think they release more now :-)

This is getting insane, $1500 for a Huawei phone?

    • phones are up there with the other similarly priced phones. whatever.

    • Think of it as a miniature computer that just happens to be able to make phone calls, and it won’t seem as daft.

  • The Moto Z2 play I think is one of the thinnest phones you can get. Decent specs too.

  • I like Huawei Phones but the price is insane, out of my price range currently. Waiting for the 20X to drop to around $800 before buying.

NOT ever @ Apple and Samsung ask, dream on hawaii

  • Before pulling the trigger on a g7 is there anything I should be aware of? Is there a new model coming out? I noticed v40 would be eventually coming.

Understand LG updates are slow, not pure android, LED and camera not great.

Definitely not a good as the other flagships but at 30-40% cheaper it seems ok

Maybe try and stretch a bit for something like a P20 Pro or One Plus 6T, or maybe a good previous gen flagship like the pixel 2. G7 Battery life is supposed to be pretty awful on top of the limitations you mentioned.

Even mi mix 3 if you dont mind a china phone, the price will prob be simmilar and the camera is very good. Mi Mix 2s will hit the $400 range soon too.

    • still waiting for my V20 to update to Oreo, have android 7 AME …..they've done oreo for Singapore and Taiwan, but not AME which is Europe and middle east variant or Aus.

      • My V20 updated. I can't remember which variant it is. Phone is definitely laggier now. Bored with it so bought a G7 … but will miss the IR blaster for when the gym TV's are annoying me ;-)

Reviews are generally favourable. The V40 has same processor so you're not missing out on anything here. Has great wide angle camera and in fact holds its own against the Samsungs. Better audio and inbuilt enclosure for playing music loudly. Nothing wrong with it and dramatically cheaper than others. I ordered one and am quite comfortable with the LG phones. This one will keep me going until 5G becomes a thing I guess/hope.

There are several other brand that has similar or better thing. Maybe wait for v40? Like other people say, xiaomi mi mix3 look promising.

    • Thanks for the responses. I require dual sim so I can combine Work + Personal numbers. I'm happy to wait things out, I would spend a few hundred extra if it meant I was getting a better device.

Sadly, there isn't much high end Australian options for Dual Sim. If Google/Apple had dual sim (not Sim +esim) I would jump on those.

Negging for major issues with Huawei.
I've just gone through 8 months of crap with them arguing that my Nexus 6P was in warranty when they claimed it wasn't.
A card was included in the box clearly stating it had 24 months warranty, they argued it was 12.
Even after sending them a copy of the card they still claimed 12.
They they back pedaled and agreed that it would be 24 months as per the card…..

…. then they changed their mind again and said nope, only 12 months….. then when i pushed the issue and re-sent the warranty terms they'd included with the box they back flipped again and said they would send me instructions and book a courier to pick it up.

And then changed their mind again… without letting me know….

Pushed again and contacted them via Facebook… no warranty.
Messaged again their social media team, and included the warranty card, the said they'd follow it up.
Received message via Facebook that it would be covered by warranty and that someone would call me… finally!

Someone called me and told me that it was not covered by warranty and that they couldn't help me.

Filed a case with Consumer Affairs Vic, got it sorted.

How the hell a $1k flagship (in it's day) does not clearly have 2 years warranty is beyond me.
This may actually be the worst customer service I've ever experienced.

Huawei are on my blacklist, and not just because of the above.

My 1 neg will probably be pitiful, but they have well and truly earned it.

I gave up on Huawei over the Nexus 6P as well… Still using it, but need to charge it 4-5 times a day now… None of Mobileciti, Huawei or Consumer Affairs wanted to hear about it

Suspect my replacement will be a Pixel 3

Nexus 6P was one of my best phones. Do you expect the battery work like new even after few years?

        • No, but maintaining at least a good amount of it's capacity would be great.
A quality lithium ion cell should maintain at least 60% of it's capacity after 1000 full charge/discharge cycles, and mobiles devices don't always see a full charge / discharge cycle, and definitely don't see the 1C discharge rate that these specifications are calculated at.

I have a 5yo Samsung Galaxy S4 running LinageOS that still comfortable gets through a full day (and the amusing part is the S4 battery is swappable!).

  • how long do you think before the mate 20 pro will hit <$1k …. 6 months?

    • +1

Yeah, probably around then when p30 pro and a few other new flagships gets announced. Mate 10 pro took 6 months for Australian stock but was a lower rrp. I think P20 pro took about 6.

    • I said around the 6 month mark too.

    • $1100 or $1200 will be a sweet price to jump in I guess, when Galaxy S10 and P30 Pro comes out. This phone is far superior than the P20 Pro in every perspective. Just wow, how phone costs too much these days and how fast it degrades in value.
