Sunny Queen Free Range Large Eggs 12 Pack (600g) for $4.50 (20% off) @ Coles

260

Sunny Queen fresh Free Range eggs are laid on farms with a maximum outdoor density of 1500 hens per hectare. I think at about 20% off(was $5.90), it is pretty good value for money spent on truly free range eggs.

Sunny Queen free Range Extra Large Eggs 12 pack (700g) is on special at Woolies for $5.70, lower than $6.00 at Coles.

700g free range are $4.39 at Aldi

And then to start a war, caged eggs are far cheaper again…..

Supermarket brand free range eggs (600g-700g) at $4ish are based on a density of 10,000 hens per hectare, not real "free range".

What do they do with the baby males?

What do they do with the hens when they're 2 years old?

    • they have chicken sexers that separate the make chicks and they get gased to death …..probabaly turned into some sort of protein for animal feed.

seems chicken sexers is a skilled and well paid job .

what do they do with 2 year old hens ? probabaly pet food or made into chicken stock or mc nuggets.

nothing goes to waste in the world of animal protein, remember mad cow disease, they fed sick sheep chopped up and mixed with grain to cows to get feed protein level up and save money ….. chances are some of this stuff also makes into feed for farmed fish eg salmon or barramundi…. it’s just protein ……soylent green, it’s people.

      • yeah our whole foodchain is contaminated via GMO Soy protein and Corn, all containing pesticides like Roundup :D

That's why I have backyard chickens and only feed them whole grains and fresh fish from the sea.

And fish is full of microplastics. You thought it was organics… and unless those whole grains are from your farm…
          Sorry to disappoint you.

      • they have chicken sexers that separate the make chicks and they get gased to death

YouTube says they get plopped down a shoot and into a grinder.

BTW, I think the polite term is chicken lover.

These are one of the two only genuine free range options I have at my local Woolworths.

  • Do you guys find that the free range ones taste better than cage eggs? Ever tried doing a taste test for example?

    • I buy free-range but I'm pretty sure they taste the same.
