Samsung T5 Portable SSD 2TB $626 + Delivery @ i-Tech ($608 with OW Price Match)

110

Very good price for a T5 2TB. OW is selling at $918 online.

The shipping fee seems to be standard at $14. That means $608 with OW price match.

The cheapest I could find is $559 at BudgetPC, but they currently have no stock. For those who want to wait, you may wish to get that.

  • I order one for $559 from budget pc yesterday. I called first to check stock and was told it will be ready for pick up from the Mt Waverley store by the end of the week. Delivery cost about $10 for VIC.

I called multiple Office Works stores around Melbourne and no store has it in stock, so can't price match.

  • Paid $500 for the T3 last week, not sure I'd be able to justify the difference in price? Only using for an Xbox One X though.

  • What does one of these do that a $75 portable hard drive won't?

    • Do we need to explain what an SSD is? If you have to ask, it's probably not for you. Just go get the cheaper dollar/gb model.

I've had ssds on all my computers for the last 5 years or so. But I don't load an OS on the portable hard drives I use.

    • One reason I have a portable SSD is for ruggedness. I can chuck it in my backpack and not worry about bumping the tiny magnets and heads inside. I don't have to worry about bumping it while it's being used.
I took it on a photography trip and it was also able to transfer my 5D IV files very fast from my SB2 to the SSD.

  • Is there a difference in performance between these portable SSDs and internal SSDs with a portable shell/casing ?

Apart from being a little smaller, I don't see any difference.

    • Stability.

  • Wish I have the money….

Can't see the point in these. Could buy two 1TB SSD's for and put in external case for around $400, which is cheaper, but still not much point.

    • Form factor, and premium materials used to make this, also space

We use them. Have the 2TB T5s. Very small, run very cool, rugged, all metal case, very fast, USB C connector. For us size and weight and instant performance make them a gem. We use them with Windows 10 laptops, Android tablets and Android phones. Our Android devices all work without needing anything extra. Yes they are expensive vs spinning drives … but we're so pleased with them in every respect that price is quickly forgotten where one values the differences.

    • I didn't realise we had any. Come to think of it, I don't think we share any products.

  • $5 off with coupon code "5offgoogle"

  • On the i-Tech product page, above the price, it says that the warranty is:
"Warranty: 1 Year Manufacturer's return to base"

But further down in the specs (and also on Samsung Australia's website) it says that the warranty is 3 years.

Could someone please advise if it's a 3-year warranty buying from this store?

  • MSY has this for online order at 599, possible to price match at officework if they have stock. I got my 1 TB for $303.40 cent after price matching MSY 319 AUD earlier today.
