  • Other than the zoom, do these cameras with tiny sensors have anything else that are worth mentioning?

    • no

    • Sorry, completely new in this area, what's the limitation of tiny sensors?

      • +1

less light is able to reach the sensor compared to larger sensors (equivalent aperture and iso will be terrible when compared to the equivalent 35mm full frame sensor, image on these is equivalent to a f/10+ on a full frame sensor), less pixel area leading to lower quality images compared to a larger sensor.

        • thanks PlushToys. What is the sensor for this camera? The page doesnt mention it anywhere.

          • @sol3x: 1/2.3. Smartphones are around 1/3.

          • +3

@sol3x: I'd just say that "equivalent aperture and iso will be terrible when compared to the equivalent 35mm full frame sensor" is completely relative. In decent light, this camera will allow you to capture photos and video that you simply cannot get without spending multiple thousands more, and with a much bigger sized setup.

At full zoom will it get you Nat Geo cover photo quality? No, it won't, but learn to use it within its limitations and you can get fantastic results…just like with any other tool.

People like to bang on about full-frame cameras and sensors and put down small-sensor all-in-ones likes this, but each has their purpose. I've got a couple of full-frame cams, but quite often grab a crop camera, compact zoom, or just my phone cam because that's what suits my particular need at the time.

would like to point out that you don't get 4375mm lens from dslr

          • -1

@dcep: But you can get something similar… 5200mm f14. Fixed focal length though.

    • You can watch someone else TV on the camera for free… despite no audio and with 16MP is a bit like SDTV.

  • Dang

Was waiting for the successor to the P900 and they release this disappointment

    https://www.thephoblographer.com/2018/07/10/the-new-nikon-p1…

Anyone knows if a larger sensor would’ve helped at 125x zoom?

Anyone knows if a larger sensor would’ve helped at 125x zoom?

It would have increased the weight and size substantially.

Was waiting for the successor to the P900 and they release this disappointment

The writer of that "review" is an idiot.

      • Fair enough, everyone seemed to be complaining about the small sensor so I thought there was weight in his review

        • It's illuminating to read through the comments at the end of that "review". The phoblographer often has decent content, but that was just braindead trash-talk from someone who's evidently clueless about physics and cares more about on-paper specs than actually taking photos.

This camera is insane. I have very little idea why one would need it, but it seems pretty good for its intended purpose as long as you are willing to live with its warts.

    • +2

you sure you don't have the slightest idea of why one would need it ?

      • +1

        Precisely! :D

    • I've got the P900 and it's a great surveillance camera. Mine paid for itself when I used it to prove that a pedophile was in fact attending an address that he had been court ordered not to.

Being able to sit back, unseen, 800 Meters away removed the possibility that an AVO could be taken out on me.

  • +1

I just purchased the P900 from the goodguys ebay for $699 less 20% ebay discount less 10% ebay gift card less $63.5 TRS.

  • This is camera is my dream. I wish I could get one for Christmas

    • Don't dream mate, wake up and get one…
