Dr. Gary Habermas is Distinguished Research Professor of Apologetics and Philosophy at Liberty University. Dr. Habermas is the most respected scholar of the resurrection of Jesus in America and in this class he teaches you everything he’s learned.

Gary Habermas, the world’s leading expert on the resurrection of Christ, has created an entire course just for you!

There is no more important event in human history than the Resurrection of Christ. This event not only evidences God’s intervention and love into the human condition, it tells the world that Christ is Lord.

The great thing about the resurrection of Christ is that it is not something God asks believers to accept with blind faith. This is an event that happened in human history with hundreds of historic details that people are called to examine to gain confidence in their faith in Christ.

That is why this 30-session Credo Course is focused solely on the historicity of the resurrection of Christ. There is not a more important event for Christians to know inside and out. The historicity of the resurrection is sure to tame any skeptic (outside and within).

  • This course description is bunkum. There is zero, zip, no 'evidence' of the story of Jesus outside of the writings of believers. The whole 'census so Jesus would be born in Bethlehem' never occurred according to detailed Roman records of the time. No mass resurrection of the dead was recorded by any other person as supposedly took place after the crucifixion as described by 'Matthew'. This tale has about as much 'history' as the tale of Hercules - it is a reflection of the times it was written, not literal truth. I find it remarkable that people can believe such a fanciful tale without good reason and even more strange that people can choose to 'worship' a being as described in the pages of the Bible - a tyrannical and often incompetent tribal God, prone to anger and petty violence.

    Liberty University

AKA "Lynchburg Baptist College", prior to the name change. And a reminder - US universities aren't like Aussie universities. Here, you need to go through a lengthy accreditation process, to prove you're delivering reasonable education. In the US, any nutjob can call themselves a "university" (and many have).

    • -1

Here, you need to go through a lengthy accreditation process

That accreditation process allowed large numbers of fake institutions that ripped people off.

    • prior to the name change

      • But they continue to have a position statement that the Earth is under 10,000 years old and they teach a medical course without having evolution in their science course, except to explain why it is wrong and they say that the truth is that God just wished everything into existence in their current form and so on. Their standards for academic rigour are low to say the least.

In fact one of the main purposes of the 'university' is to churn out these sorts of courses in order to inculcate their beliefs into mainstream political thought and to the detriment of the world they are being reasonably successful hence the rise of figures like Donald Trump - who is enormously popular amongst certain factions of Christians in the U.S and who is heavily endorsed as 'divinely placed' by Liberty University.

        • -3

Maybe they are wrong about the age of the Earth and evolution. Whatever people think is true, those two issues don't seem to affect most people in their day-to-day lives. There doesn't seem to be any hard evidence to prove the opposite, or maybe that's just me being indoctrinated by a Christian school.
Science has proven itself to be wrong, time and time again.

who is heavily endorsed as 'divinely placed' by Liberty University.

Jesus never existing - oh what a flop of a conspiracy theory fake news

I know men and I tell you that Jesus Christ is no mere man. Between Him and every other person in the world there is no possible term of comparison. Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and I have founded empires. But on what did we rest the creation of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ founded His empire upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for Him.
    Napoleon, military and political leader

I am an historian, I am not a believer, but I must confess as a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history. Jesus Christ is easily the most dominant figure in all history.
    H.G. Wells, author

No other life lived on this planet has so widely and deeply affected mankind.
Kenneth Scott Latourette, former President of American Historic Society

The three years that Jesus of Nazareth walked the earth.
Will Durant, historian and philosopher, when asked what he felt the apex of history was

A man who was completely innocent, offered himself as a sacrifice for the good of others, including his enemies, and became the ransom of the world. It was a perfect act.
    Mahatma Gandhi, leader

As a child I received instruction both in the Bible and in the Talmud. I am a Jew, but I am enthralled by the luminous figure of the Nazarene….No one can read the Gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth is filled with such life.
    Albert Einstein, scientist

A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic – on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg – or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God; or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.
    C.S. Lewis, author

“The Encyclopedia Britannica, 15th edition, devotes 20,000 words to the person of Jesus Christ and never once hints that He didn’t exist.”
      — John Ankerberg.

      • Meh. The same encyclopedia devotes more words to the prohpet Muhammed, and never once hints that he didn't exist or wasn't telling the truth.
George Lucas wrote even more about the Skywalker family in all his notes and screenplays.

Huh. It's almost as if the number of words written about someone has no bearing on their existence.

Ah the religious: If they were logical, they wouldn't be religious!

When someone says "Audio Course" about the "The Resurrection of Jesus" by Dr. Gary Habermas, I expect to learn how to resurrect like Jesus. Especially if it's worth $100. Its a neg from me.

    • If you can get yourself in a situation of life-threatening cardiac dysrhythmias. I'll happily try some electric shock resuscitation on you for free. Not similar to Jesus but close enough. I have no idea how I will get the right electric current from my AC wall, but I can give it a try. If you want mouth-to-mouth resuscitation it will cost a lot more than $100.

      • +4

At least defibrillation is a proven therapy that occasionally works for a shockable rhythm if you’re in cardiac arrest. The stuff they write about Jesus is unproven and, in reality, BS

      • Why would I get myself in that position? If I did why would I need you to do that? Medicare + Medibank to the rescue if that happens.

You can't take propaganda and say save $100 off this course. Next, we will be seeing "deals" on Watchtower Magazine on Ozbargain with RRP of $50.

        • I don't know just trying to help you in your quest to " learn how to resurrect"

    • +1

No worries. I've listened to Dr. Gary Habermas a few times. He is one of the best on this subject. I'm happy for this 30-session course. A lot more I can learn from him in this course.

    • +3

      evidence

      No, there is no evidence.

Funny how Persian and Egyptian religions prior to Christianity all had the same fairy tale.

Born to a virgin, then killed.

      • -2

Funny how people who refuse to look at the evidence claim there is no evidence. lols

Also funny how they believe totally disproven theories like comparative religion (Jesus was just like all those other deities) instead. The idea that all these similarities exist was first touted by Alice Bailey (or was it Blavatsky?)a couple of hundred years ago after a visit to a mysterious monastery in Tibet where she was shown a 'secret book'. Of course the notion took off pretty well in the minds of the ignorant back then because we hadn't found the Rosetta stone and hadn't learned to translate Egyptian Hieroglyphs. We in the west also didn't have that much contact with eastern philosophies and teachings so people could pretty much say what they wanted. Since then of course we have been able to look at the ORIGINAL stories and lo and behold almost none of the alleged similarities exist. The ones that do hold more similarities were actually written or altered in the post-Christ era and therefore simply copied from Jesus anyway (and not the other way around as claimed).

The OP has given you an opportunity to learn something, please do so before making uninformed comments. :)

        • +1

          evidence

          What is this evidence?

          learn something,

Life's too short to waste on fairy tales.

Now please show me this evidence?

            • @gto21: heh, beat me by 'that' much. :)

            • +2

@gto21: I want you to tell me, you're both claiming there's evidence, I'm simply asking what it is.

If there really was any evidence, you'd post it instead of obfuscating.

              • +2

@Scab: He did post it, 15 HOURS WORTH. You are not asking for more evidence, you are asking for factoids that you can nit-pick over for pages and pages. So you have your evidence right there, learn about it and then tell us what parts you disagree with or have better evidence against.

                • +2

@EightImmortals: Your refusal to post any evidence shows that there isn't any.

Again, you made the claim there's evidence so where is it?

                • +12

@EightImmortals: Yep and the Lord of the Rings is proof of orcs' existence.
Combined with the Hobbit, there's like 18 hours of quad HD documentary footage.

That's all the "evidence" I need to look at.

          • @dm01: Well I apologise that I am not enough like Jesus to convince you to look at the course. But I suspect that any excuse would do, am I right?

              • +1

@gto21: Seriously, that's the best you two can do, post links rather than answer a simple question.

This OP not only decided to constantly post this non sense and getting the most down votes on Ozbargain, but now he/she even resorted to poking and insulting users who express their disappointment about this kind of postings.

I have always thought the man called Jesus did exist, just like man Buddha. But what people wrote about them is a different matter.

    • +1

Since we have biblical and non-biblical documents from Christians and non-Christians. And we have more evidence for Jesus than anyone from the same time period. It's very likely he existed. You are right what written about them can be wrong. That why you have to investigate the historical and archeological evidence. Buddha maybe existed, and maybe what he said is accurate. I have no problem if Buddha existed and what we have is accurate. I never investigate since I think theism has better arguments than atheism. If someone tells me, Muhammad probably existed. I would agree. But based on my studies I think Christianity has more historical and archeological evidence to support their claims.
