Samsung 28" 1ms 4K LED Gaming Monitor - $360 Delivered (Was $450) @ Futu Online eBay

PFUTU20

Very cheap for a 4k monitor.

note: this is definitely closer to the bottom end for 4k monitors but is still fantastic for those who want to game at a desk on say a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X. The response rate of 1ms is just prime. FreeSync is also very nice.

Generally those who sit at a desk do this…

      • +34

        Do they seat though?

        • +9

I find standing on the seat for optimal viewing distance is best.

          • @Ryuhayebusa: I rather crouch on the seat to watch it. Bar stools prefered.

            • +1

@Yummy: i'd rather seat on the couch than stool on the bar. what?

              • +5

                @Carrian: .
                Person ——> O
                Barstool —-> /-\

                • +1

@HighAndDry: i'll be sure to send a photo of myself attempting this playing GOW on my ps4 pro. :)

                  • +1

@Carrian: I accept no responsibility or liability for any injuries, harm or other losses suffered as a result of following my ASCII drawing…….

              • @Carrian: Crouch like a duck.

        • You got 6 up votes for bashing someone's English?

          • @incipient: I would hardly consider quoting the word "seating" as bashing…

            • @Deviner: it could just be typo missing an 'r' behind you , meant to be your seat

              • @dcep: what? "this is good if your seat 1 ft away" is still grammatically incorrect. lol

                • @Carrian: it could just be typo missing 'is' after seat

    • +2

I feel 27/28" is actually the most versatile size to get compared to 24/32".

On a standard desk 32" is really a tad large, and on a small desk completely unusable. A 24" is ok for a mid desk, but less than idea if you're using a more table-sized desk.

A 27" you can manage on a small desk but it's a tad uncomfortable, and on a large table-sized desk it's still big enough to be quite functional.

      • yea 27" 2k is perfect

would get va2719-2k that oc to 80hz for less

    • And it doesn’t have HDR, one of the most advertised features on the Xbox One X apart from 4k. Probably good to pass and wait till more HDR monitors come out

  • Is a TN panel really bad? I've never had one but it might be worth it for this monitor. 60hz kinda stinks too but that price is great.

    • +4

Depends what you use it for. Single monitor (or your primary/directly-in-front monitor in a multi-monitor set up) and primarily for gaming with no creative productivity use? Perfectly fine.

TN has great response times and minimal input lag. Bad colour accuracy/reproduction and bad viewing angles.

      • I'll be using this with my ps4 pro at my desk. And for smash bros when it comes out. Pretty ideal for sitting directly infront of for console gaming tbh.

        • For a sec I thought you said Super smash on the PS4 Pro and was like… what?!

But yeah - this would be almost perfect for console gaming at your desk. 4K, and 60Hz isn't even a drawback.

          • @HighAndDry: I paid more for my 24inch 144hz budget asus monitor lol.

      • -2

Sorry but this is simply not true.

        I have a 11 year old dell monitor. It's a TN panel.its 1920 X 1200.60hz.

I just bought a brand new Asus 165hz 2560x1440 gsync ROG monitor. It's an LED and supposedly a very good one.

I have them both next to each other.

The TN monitor has better viewing angles, and a miles cleaner picture. Honestly if not for the RES, the cheaper older monitor would be better.

Only thing I notice is the high HZ. If you asked me before I purchased the Asus if I would spend $1000 for fractionally better hz times I'd tell you where to go.

Unfortunately you have kids who all they have to go off are quasi paid reviews and "info websites" that tell all this Bull shit. So they take the info as gospel.

I should have just bought a 55 inch OLED then I could say how different it is to my old dell.

        For reference I have a Asus 1080ti.

        • +2

You most likely bought the ROG Swift PG278Q which is also a TN panel. Besides, some WQHD 144Hz TN monitors have bad colours/gamma out of the box. A few individuals I know have issues with their Dell S2716DG monitors.

        • +1

          it's an LED

That's not a panel type, that's a backlight type. An OLED would be much better. Also would be 5x the price for the same specs. The other panel types are VA and IPS.

    • +1

Yeah 60hz does kind of stink, but if you want more than 60hz at 4K your spending upwards of $3000, which makes 60hz not so stinky at that price.

  • +2

Only drawbacks I can see are that it's a TN panel (bad colour reproduction, bad viewing angles), and it's bog-standard 60Hz refresh rate.

Otherwise, 4K LED for $360 is a steal. Freesync is just icing.

    • +1

      it is bog-standard

      • Uh….. "it's" is obviously the contraction for "it has"………. which makes perfect syntactical sense. And I'm sticking with that.

        • +1

          will you marry me

          • +5

@King Steuart: Yes! My years of grammar-nerding finally paid off!

But alas, I can't marry someone who doesn't capitalise or use punctuation =(.

            • @HighAndDry: Perhaps @Putnum may reconsider their proposal, assuming they are a staunch believer in not stating a sentence with a coordinating conjunction?

              • @PonyTable: or starting, either way.

                • @PonyTable: Haha irony =P. Hint for next time, if you (or someone else) haven't/hasn't replied yet, you can edit your comment within a few hours of its posting.

                  • +1

@HighAndDry: Yeah I knew that you can edit, but I prefer to feed the trolls in the open, as they tend to get more curious when they see an edit has been made. I enjoyed the irony as well.

    • Doesn’t seem like it has HDR either

  • 60hz kinda stinks too.

it does suck if you're used to 120/144hz
I have a Benq 4K 31" but wants to buy a 144hz screen as smoooth UI/mouse cursor movement is just nicer

Can't tell you much about current day TN panels

    • -3

      Tn is Tn, its bad

  • I use this with a 980ti and it is generally ok but sometimes the screen tearing is pretty bad. Currently looking at an upgrade.

If you're on a budget this is so cheap and will be a great buy but expect drawbacks.

    • +3

Enabling V-Sync (if you haven't) and/or capping framerates at 60fps should help with screen-tearing (on this monitor). Or get an AMD video card so you can take advantage of the Freesync. I don't think the issue is really a problem of this screen as it is a compatibility/software issue primarily.

      • Maybe I should have checked the link first. Mines the older model which doesn't have freesync so in the end a moot point. Capping at 60fps doesn't help on the old model. Most games will tear. V-sync or no v-sync.

I'll get a new monitor though. It's time for a new monitor.

    • You could upgrade to a $2000 monitor but if you aren't running g/v/freesync you're going to get horrid tearing at 4k with a 980ti.

Don't hate the hardware, hate the setup.

      • Nah I'll hate the hardware. Like I said above it was the older model I have. Didn't realise the new one had freesync. My one doesn't.

I almost pulled the pin on a $2k monitor but purchased a second RPAS instead. I'll upgrade to a better monitor soon.

        • You'll still need to turn on vsync, or change the settings to make your fps as constant as possible and close to 60 as possible.

          • @incipient: I do, always. This is like the most basic thing you would do.. It doesn't really help.

  • Looking for a 4K monitor for gaming on my PS4 pro. Currently have one of the 24” benq 1ms ones (rl2455hm).

I only play FPS games so low response is a must. Can anyone recommend any? Obviously don’t need all the bells and whistles PC gamers need as I’ll only be using it with the PS4 pro and a standard PC monitor. If it’s cheap enough I’d buy two (hopefully a 1070 is ok)

    • +3

      this one…..?

    • +2

Pretty sure the PS4 Pro doesn't ever go above 60fps, so this screen should be fine for that. PC gaming, you're really not going to get much better performance than 4K @ 60fps on most titles on decent settings on a 1070, so IMO this screen is also okay for that.

And this is a TN panel so should be good for shooters and fast-twitch games.

Other requirements you might have notwithstanding, this monitor seems to tick all your boxes.

      • Thanks. Not sure whether I could fit two 28” on my desk, is a 4K 24” one a waste of money? I guess I like 24” cause i feel it’s the optimum size for multiplayer FPS games.

        • +2

          is a 4K 24” one a waste of money?

Imho, definitely. Even 24" at 1440p would be hard to tell the difference (not to mention that any use for the PC will make everything way too small to be useful at native resolutions when not gaming).

Depends on your desk, but check if this has VESA mounting, and if so, look into a VESA dual mount, which will decrease the footprint needed drastically.

        • If you're going to get two of these consider the Phillips 4k 43" that was $700. It will take way less horizontal space and you won't need any scaling. Depends on your use case. I have one and for excel, GIS, general productivity it's amazing. Even 4k at 32" you'll have to scale to able to read anything, somewhat defying the point of all the extra pixels - 43" 4k is a great font size at 100%

  • This is actually especially good for Xbox One S and One X owners, because they have support for Freesync. PS4s should also be able to, since they have AMD GPUs, but so far Sony hasn't added Freesync support to PS4 firmware.

    • +2

It's actually a little bit of sleight-of-hand by monitor manufacturers. Many of the freesync monitors only support freesync over display port (for PC), not over HDMI (xbox)

I did a lot of research on this when looking for monitors suitable for the X1X; you can filter the list of supported monitors on the AMD website to find ones that support freesync over HDMI:

      https://www.amd.com/en/products/freesync-monitors

I ended up ordering the asus VP28UQG, which was the cheapest option (no HDR unfortunately).

      • Great link - thanks.

  • Can state for the record these are brilliant with 4k gaming consoles especially XBox One X. 1ms response time is what competitive gamers and PC enthusiasts demand. I already own these and bought an extra In a dual. Monitor set up.. Come to think of it I don't really need 2 any more. I have a spare one re boxed with the lot if anyone wants and misses on this deal

    • Let me know if you want to sell it a cheaper price later. I’m looking for a monitor like this but can’t afford $360 at the moment.

    • Does it bother you that it doesn’t have HDR?

      • Depending on what games you play, it can be a bit overrated…so No, I'm really happy with the display and features. Easy to use menu via a joystick at the bottom right of the monitor.

  • +2

I have the previous model of this monitor, the U28D590D, same specs but without free sync basically, its actually a pretty decent monitor, I calibrated the colors myself and it almost matches my x34P monitor sitting besides it, I managed to overclock the monitor to 80hz so its running super fluid, had it for about 3 years now and still running solid.

    • How to overclock?

      • Well since i have a nvidia gpu , i go to nvidia control panel and create custom resolution, then set it to 80hz and apply, easy as pie

  • 'now fight in the comments about how bad this monitor is'

    This monitor is bad…

    • you got me. you win.

    • … No it's not!

      • fite fite fite

  • I have this one, $360 is absolutely a good price, but I am not happy when I use this monitor to visit the website, don't like the colour. Games, movies all good.

  • what is a step up from this? around the 400 after coupon if there is any, or 450 max
i might need to buy a good 4k monitor and a ps4 pro with red dead redemption, finally worth buying a ps4

  • I have this, got for the same price a few months back.

Happy with it. You need to have HDMI2 to get access to 4K

    • Or Display port (mini)

I agree too. Very good monitor for the price.

  • THis caught my eye a few weeks back at the time it was $330 with the discounts I ended up passing it up most was disappointed with the TN panel

  • Got this monitor from computer alliance.

It gives off a high pitched whine when viewing white screens (window screen) - checked online and others have had this issue too - seems to be DP related. I am connected via DP too.

and also during standby when the blue LED goes on and off. pretty annoying.

    Other than that its Ok.

Oh and videos tear like crazy, with a Vega 56 - no idea if its a software or hardware issue yet.

    • Have you enabled Freesync? Shouldn't really get tearing with an AMD GPU.

      • FreeSync only works in a certain framerate range on low end screens. You'll get tearing if your graphics card doesn't pump out the 'sweet spot' for the screen (which I have no idea what it is for this model).

        • 40-60 Hz for this model

          • @FunkyMunky: A Vega 56 should be able to do 40-60fps no issues on anything below Extreme quality settings.

  • With just 2 available will it be possible to price match with JB Hifi?

Want to buy a monitor from a store so its easier to exchange

  • +2

DO NOT BUY THIS! I have one for almost a year now, since day 1 the monitor makes a lot of screeching noises. Turning on makes loud SCREEEEEECH noise, idle mode with the LED light flashing makes beep bop beep bop noise, completely shut down STILL make a low screeeeeeech noise that is noticeable at night. Overall NOT recommended at all because of the annoying noises.

    • you have to switch it off too, when the PC is turned off.

its ok at other times, except when viewing white screens.

      • Yes, that's what I said. even when completely switched off, it still make a low screeching sound that's noticeable at night.

      • +1

        Saved by the Gong.

    • Thanks was going to buy, sounds like an issue with cheap capacitors

    • hey this wont fix when its off but next time if u are able, can you try adjusting the brightness or the contrast up and down and see if it affects the screech? at certain brightness levels it may remove it.

  • On a monitor this size, for a ps4, I'd be more keen on HDR that 4k. Don't rock I've ever seen a HDR 1080P screen though

  • It being TN is going to annoy you more then you think .. switched to a TN top of the line and now i rather watch videos and everything on my Tv

    • Yeah can confirm the low brightness and bad viewing angles make it bad for different situations like elevating it a bit higher so your neck does not hurt or watching from your bed.. if you are gonna be at level viewing angles and close up 100% of the time like a desk then it is great.

TL;DR TN panel = bad brightness, bad for non level viewing, bad for watching from afar, but it is much cheaper than IPS and VA.

  • Is there any bargain with height adjustable screen? Helps with neck cramps

Is this one height adjustable. I read but don’t think it stated

    • Also would like directions on similar price range with height adjustable screen and compatible with mac
      Cheeers

  • +1

As much as i enjoy the comments here, could someone direct me into a high reso monitor under same price, other than this more slimmer. Just need it to look nice in study and connect it to macbook.

  • NTSC 72%.

I get competitive gamers don't necessarily care about image quality, but that is a damn low colour figure.

    • TN Panel. Can't really get those super-low response times with any other panel, and you can't get any better colour reproduction with a TN.

  • +2

My take on this monitor after owning it for almost 4 years:
This is a very good deal for a decent monitor. I can attest to the response time etc. It can split screen too but I never used that function. The design is very nice even in today's trend.
The biggest downside for this is no height adjustment and the tilting range is pretty bad. I like my monitor high so had to put it onto a monitor stand. However the top 25% of the panel had pretty bad colour distortion, especially when you lean back and/or slouch on the chair. The screen will not tilt down enough so I had to add a little wooden piece at the back of the base to make it tilt forward when I do this.
2nd negative about this one is if you use it for a prolonged continuous period say 6hrs+ the screen flickering will make your eyes tired. Especially if you spend most of the time staring at documents and web surfing due to the white background.
Colour accuracy is bad but did not stop me from enjoying the occasional movies on it.
Overall this is one of the best value for a budget 4k monitor especially if you use it for gaming and youtube. For office or creative use I would recommend getting a 1440p Dell Ultrasharp even at 25inch instead. For study, it depends on what kind of students you are :D

  • Don't get me started on how bad some led monitors bleed AND glow. It's just garbage when you are used to plasma OLED or TN panels

  • I'm looking to buy this monitor to use when I work from home as well as connect my Xbox360 and eventually buy a ps4 pro.

With the xbox360 I'd be connecting it via HDMI but how do I get sound?

And is this the type of monitor I'm after for the ps4 pro? I don't really play FPS but more Uncharted, Tomb Raider and Red Dead. Those type of games. Or should I wait for one that's HDR and 4k?

    • How much do you really need HDR? Both Assassin's Creed Origin and Tomb Raider games look sensation on this display. I can help you out if keen…

      • I don't know much about this space and I don't know whether I need HDR. My friends said to get something with HDR to future proof myself but I really don't care.

As long as it's the best possible 4k (obviously value for money is key) then I'm happy.

Yes, help is always good. Thanks

    • With the xbox360 I'd be connecting it via HDMI but how do I get sound?

The monitor has a normal 3mm headphone plug for audio output.

  • Wonder what stock levels are left of this…
