Anyways… can you comment on the quality?

High speed steel drill bits - made in china
I have used them around the house - i would recommend
Sutton branded and they don't sell rubbish but is listed as DIY

      Darrin

      • Sutton when I was getting my hands dirty was one of the best, would like to believe this hasn't changed

  • +2

With all due respect it's inappropriate to label it as a Sutton drill set when it's not - blind billy can see it's branded Osborn.

I know Sutton drill bits and have a set myself and also know they make several tiers of drill bits and market/brand them differently depending in the quality. The ones they apply their own brand of Sutton to being the superior ones.

So you can in the blurb of the listing say it's made by Sutton but you can't say it's a Sutton drill set - as it's simply NOT. That'd be like popping up a deal on a Skoda and saying it's a VW, simply as VW own/essentially made the car - it's branded as X therefore thats what it is.

To do otherwise is misleading and detracts from the listing IMHO.

    • Would this be similar to the ebay ones that say Frost by Sutton? what would be the actual Sutton branded sets?

      • I can only guess as to what they'd equate to BUT I do think this is a VERY GOOD DEAL - and I'll say it again I think this is a very good deal. But as stated I think the OP is doing a significant disservice to themselves and OzB by trying to pass off as a Sutton set - thats just wrong on multiple levels.

Crap drill bit sets stink, these would be very good quality for sure - and much better than the Ryobi branded sets etc - I'd guess they'd be about the same as the Frost branded ones - that Bunnings also carry - so they're a very good buy at this price and money well invested as they won't dull or break like cheapies.

Changed wording to made to sold. to clarify.
Sutton tools sell and distribute these drills to us. They are made in china for Sutton.
yes Sutton Australian made are superior quality and higher priced usually.

      Thanks

This stuff may only be good for hobby and you might be lucky to make the holes and finish the job but for a professional use, I would never buy these drill bits.
You can say all you want about mentioning Sutton to make this Chinese import look better but at the end of the day this stuff is no more than something made in China.
And I'm sick of these misleading businesses labeling themselves 100% Australian owned because all they do is importing something already made and sold in the Chinese market.
They buy this stuff for less than $5 from China and make up a RRP of $17 so selling it for $11 means they don't lose money.

A guest checkout would be great…

    • I looked briefly into it and found it wasn't recommend for tracking peoples orders - its been a while so can't remember exact wording or why the difference since I presume the same customer information is taken - I will look into more deeply and see if we can do something

      Darrin

      • Many online retailers use Paypal checkout - yep they sting you 2.4%, but it might result in sales otherwise left abandoned…

I needed some drill bits so I'll give these a go. Thanks OP.

    • Thank you Roger

      Darrin

  • I brought these last time and they are fine for wood and plasterboard but brick you get probably one hole and then they are blunt and useless. I have finally realised that buying cheap drill bits is a waste of time and money.

    • +3

These are not for brick, I'm surprised you got one hole. If you are drilling into brick it would be a waste of money. These are for timber metal plastic. I have used these myself and are happy with the quality.

I do have some masonry drill bits if you need the right one for brick and concrete. They have a tungsten end which is suitable.

      Darrin

    • Why would you use these for brick?

      • Not everybody knows about the differences between bits I guess. If someone is just starting out then it’s understandable that folks might think that one drill bit will do everything.

Remember folks; each bit has a different purpose.

Here’s a bit of a guide of which bits are which.

So get out there and have some fun making stuff :)

        • But if thats the case WHY are you doing any DIY as thats about as basic as it gets and its a major worry what else you're doing arse backwards.

Hard to understand how this could be the case when nearly everyone has the internet at a few secs click away.

        • +1

You’re right. Now I feel bad for using the tone that I did. Sorry Bobby Dazzler. Everyone starts somewhere

  • Bought last time. Not worth buying at all. Junk

  • I use the bits around the home and I am happy with the quality and the price.

Send them back to me if you would like Jason I will look after you

  • CITY MITRE 10 - Promo ends Sunday 7th September 2017

What does this mean? Which promo are you talking about? Why are you advertising an expired promo on OzBargain?

    • Have you seen back to the future?

      Fixed thanks for spotting Alvian

      Darrin

  • Conflicted… are these better than bunnings offerings at same price point?

    • The home brand craftright ones? I haven't used them I cant honestly answer - They look shiny tho :O)

Do they deliver that one? $2.95?

      Darrin

      • Maybe they came from the same Chinese manufacturer.
