    Highly recommend this stuff!

Has anyone used this on their shower glass? Any good?

    • +5

Yes and doesn't long. I'll say 2 weeks max and the hydrophobic properties are all gone by then.
Go ceramic coating if you want long lasting

      • Ceramic coating? Any product brand?

        • +1

If it's for the shower any cheapy one will do. I bought Nasiol though I used it on my car initially and whatever was left I used it on the shower as you can't really store it once its opened.

          • +1

@bogak: Where does one purchase Nasiol in aus or you gott import it?

      • Does it work on wheels?

    • DW40 works too.

  • What's RRP?

    • This is for the shower door

    • This is cheaper per litre ($40.01 vs $48.26). Edit: It is not the same product.

    • +4

Would definitely stick to rainx. Really good brand but usually expensive.

      • +1

        I just use silicone spray.

Spray it on a cloth and wipe on glass, works great.

That's all this stuff is, silicone oil in an alcohol base.

        • Really? So are you talking about Super Cheap tyre shine (I already love the stuff) is this another legit use for it?

          • @jason101: I find the tire shine gets washed away by rain quite quickly. Gone in like 3-4 rainy days.

          • +1

            @jason101:

So are you talking about Super Cheap tyre shine

No, silicone spray, sold as a lubricant.

            • @Scab: Thanks, I’m going to try that.

        • Scab..which brand do you use ? Will give it a go as well …

          • +1

@DaveD: WD4O, but any brand should be fine

      • This guy repels.

    • +2

I used that and its actually pretty good. Dont know how it compares to rain x but it works for me

  • I drive a 40 year old classic where the wipers stopped working ten years ago. I avoid taking it out in the rain but keep a bottle of this stuff with a clean rag in my onboard kit. Clean the windscreen and a double application she beads right off at medium speed

    • +9

so youre blind when stopped at the lights then? lol

      • +2

Not so much blind as having visibility about as good as while being blindingly intoxicated

Isn’t the EnduroShield from Aldi a better product? I’ve always used RainX but find it’s lost it’s hydrophobic properties in a couple of weeks.

That's because your windshield is being hurtled through the clouds, 40,000 feet above the ground at 900km/h. I'm surprised they last more than a week to be honest.

Mixing metric and empiral units in the one sentence @mathnerd … +1, but damn my OCD. (“About 12km” doesn’t have the same ring to it I guess)

        • +5

*imperial … you'll thank me later.

          • +2

@PJC: Well thanked 🤪 consider me Imperially stuck

Mixing metric and empiral units in the one sentence

I feel your pain, the industry doesn't really have that going for them :(

    • Was very impressed with Enduroshield on the bathroom mirror and patio glass. The bathroom mirror especially hardly fogs up at all and it's been nearly 12 months kind of ran out on the patio windows and had no choice but to water it down which it is advised not to. Never used it on the windshield though

Can anyone suggest best water Repellant for Shower screen which can last longer ? not one or two weeks….

    • Squeegee minimum 1 year.

  • +16

One bottle will last ages ,
especially if you don't use it

    • Haha, that is what happened to me. I have only used it once since 6m ago.

      • +2

        6 minutes isn't so long?

        • +2

          Username most definately checks out!

@buckster: I think you missed the "sarcasm" text…

          • @buckster: Oh the irony of someone accusing another of being thick when he/she spells "definitely" incorrectly in bold letters.

I used Rainex a few years ago and while it was great at first, after a few months the wipers wiped off parts of it in streaks which actually made my windscreen so hard to see through all the time that I had to replace the windscreen.

I vowed never to use it again.
Just my experience, yours might be different/better.

    • +4

Wouldn't you just reapply to fill in the streaks?

    • +7

You do realise your wipers ARE supposed to have rubber underneath the steel strip right?! 😂

  • +1

I've had good experience with RainX on my Evo before. Highly rated.

  • I've still got a bottle of this I purchased in 1996. Hardly used it but stuff still works 20 years later.

  • +1

I always remember this was around the $10 mark. Would never spend $20

    • Yea, I don't remember around $20 last time I bought this.

  • +2

Dip your shoes in it = Waterproof sneakers

    • +5

After your recommendation I was so keen to try this I dipped my Dress Shoes into it but they didn't turn into sneakers… What did I do wrong?!

      • You haven't waited long enough…

  • A bit more costly but i'd suggest aquapel over this.

  • I tried it on my windscreen and the only problem was that it seemed to work so well that the wipers couldn't actually get water underneath them to lubricate them as they were dragged across the windscreen, so they made an awful shuddering noise. It was so annoying that I just got out the Ajax and removed it.

    • +1

      Here are a few tips.
      1. Ensure your windshield is super clean and dry.
      2. Wash your wipers and wipe them eith soap till all the black comes offthem.
      3. Apply rainx to a little cloth and then apply it onto your wipers too.(after they dry)

      • I tried Scotty's YouTube suggestion of cleaning the wipers with denatured alcohol and it does remove a lot of black soot stuck to the wipers which I didn't remove with my regular wash. Can buy denatured alcohol cheap from local Bunnings.

I'm currently using the rainx washer additive. Much prefer it over the original as you don't need to apply it to the screen, just operate your washers. The result is the same.

    • Is that the same price?

    • This sounds better to me.

  • Rain drop drop tops

  • Another way is to use wax - the same carnauba wax used on the paint. There’s a car guy on YouTube (Chris Fix I think) who suggests you clean the glass with a clay bar and then apply the wax.

I tried it and the water runs off the same way as Rain-X but it doesn’t seem to last very long. You just need to make sure you buff it well to avoid streaks.

Good price for the Rain-X but I find if I don’t keep the windscreen clean I find the wipers do shudder, like other people have mentioned.

    • -5

Clay bar on the windscreen, really what will I read next on the internet.

Before you fo this make sure u have windscreen added on your insurance and have your hanmer locked away. You may feel you have to hit your self on the head after following the instructions above

      • +1

Chris Fix is not your average youtuber. Car detailers also use clay bar and charges customer >$200 for that.

        • on the windscreen!!!!!!!

  • Great product works well. First application make sure you do it properly then you can be a bit lazier after that. Top it up once a month and you will never have a problem. Grabbed the one in the spray bottle last week from SCA for $19.09 (got it price match with cleaningshop for $19.09 for 473m). Picked up a few of these for refills, great price.

  • Got it today and used it for the first time. Thought I did a good job with the wiping but when I had to go for a drive tonight, I was in for a surprise! Light was refracting everywhere!

My advice is when wiping to dry, make sure you use a decent number of towels/cloths. Wipe vertically so even if there are refractions, they won't be as bad.

  • Shame i still have stock in my garage from last year.

  • This sounds hard to apply why is it worth the effort. I guess it's not

    • Not really. Clean the window first and then apply the rainx in a circular motion. Then buff out with a cloth. Worth it when driving.
