  • That actually better than my homtom 7, time to upgrade I think. Hmmm is it cheap to unlocked?

    • +3

It was $25 to unlock mine. I believe it's related to how old the "stock" is. Mine was made over 6 months ago. Less than 6 months = $40.

    • +2

Try asking on live chat for free unlock. I've had luck doing this with 2 prepaid phones this year.

      • +2

I haven't had any luck with unlock via live chat. I know some people on postpaid did.

I know you tell them that you want to travel overseas, but my rep just told me about the roaming options instead.

        • How do you find the camera strayfire?

          • +1

@tranter: The camera on the Nokia 3 is an improvement over the Lumia 640. That's not saying much.

However, the shots it takes are very muddy when zoomed in.

            The selfie camera is decent.

        • +1

I just bought a Nokia 3 this afternoon and went on live chat. Free unlock will be available in 24-48 hrs on the Vodafone unlock page.

I don't even have an active service with Vodafone but they did ask for my previous account details to verify my identity. The free unlock provided to me earlier this year was also recorded on my account.

So it definitely can be done with a small amount of luck.

    and a headphone jack!

      • +24

Don't be a isheep. The trend of no headphones jack is anti consumers. Forcing users to sort another accessory that isn't needed.

        • I'm on the fence about this. It's progress like this that forces mass adoption, driving prices down for wireless solutions. It's not anti consumer I dont think.

        • +1

Saying that audio drivers are optional would mean that they don't come with any speakers and you would have to buy them. I was joking and personally would never buy a phone without a 3.5mm output or earphones without speakers.

      • +3

Oh god, did no one not get the sarcasm in this comment????

        • Hahaha nope!

    • +1

Was waiting for headphonejack to notice that😉

      • +4

can't believe Headphone jack is now a listed feature. some thing we taker for granted

  • I guess this phone will work on a Kogan sim, since it is also using VF network? Coz I just ordered a Kogan BOGOF 365 prepaid sim for my in law and she also need a new "budget" phone, this one will be perfect for her!

    • +7

I can confirm it works fine on Kogan.

  • +1

Ok, so this does all Australian network bands? Plus nfc.

Im looking for a replacement for my Sony E4G which has worked across all providers (and sadly just got the shake n win app now functioning..2 years!). On off button fell off, but managed to solder it back on. But don't expect it to last. So Nokia 3, or a Huawei in the same price range.

Lastly. Remember cashrewards plus egift cards to reduce this further.

  • +2

Somehow, Google pay never worked. It always failed. It was under Android 7 then upgraded to version 8. They both always failed. Just sharing my experience. I don't have the phone anymore.

    • What does upgradeable with Aug 5th patch mean?

Any reason u wouldn't upgrade? 7 has more support? Uses less resources?

      • It means the latest security patch I see on my Nokia 3 is 5th August.

    • Google pay works on my Nokia 3. NAB Debit and ANZ Platinum Credit.

    • +1

Worked on mine a few weeks back. Got $10 credit for using it 5 times and 5 days.

  • Can this do NDS emulation?

    • +5

Yes, I have the paid version of Drastic DS emulator on it.

      Works fine.

Of course you would only ever emulate things legally, of course.

  • Had one for a few days and really liked the build quality and design, good cameras (especially the front one) and android 8 with frequent/ish updates. Great phone for the price!

    • Frequent updates in a few days?

  • What can I "get" with $40 starter pack? 2GB Sim plan at Voda is $35…

    • +5

Any Vodafone prepaid plan with $40 credit.

      There's a 35 day plan with 17GB data.

I used Prepaid 365 Plus, and activate 500MB of data for 28 days ($5) (x8 for $40 = 4gb/224 days) for Pokemon Go.

      • +1

Thank you, might consider this now :)

      • Seems you went to Gordon and bought the last one?-)

        • I bought one the last time when it was on sale. Haven't touched them since.

  • +2

For phones at this price range it's a much better option than Huawei or ZTE. I used to think Huawei & ZTE's were bargains but from my experience they start getting faulty after 1 year and most are dead by 2.

    • +1

My Huawei Y6 Elite is still going strong. Great phone for everyday use.

    • +3

Four y550s, 4 years old. Still working fine.

      • I have a few y550s that are still going well too. They just needed a battery replacement after a while when they get expand.

      • Bought 2 Y550. One my parents used for the last 2 years with no problem. The second one I've activated in Feb 2018. Last month it stack start up HUAWEI logo. Almost haven't used it as a second phone. The guys in the shop couldn't get it thru. The hard android reset didn't work either. Phone wasn't dropped or wasn't damaged by water. Not a scratch. Unpreparable glitch. Huawei a good cheap phone tho. Using Y6 Elite as a second one atm.

        • Remove / disconnect battery and try again.

  • Will this be a decent upgrade for my grandfather? He's currently using an s3, very basic usage. Screen size and decent battery life being the most important for him. (2-3 days if possible with minimal usage would be fantastic). Any other suggestions <300 would be appreciated :)

  • has anyone found this anywhere in Sydney? albeit i've only tried town hall woolies, wondering if someone knows of stock somewhere.

The guy checked online and it said not available!

    • did u ask for a raincheck?

      • he didnt have the model anywhere. he said i can do that if i can find a woolies that displays it.

        • Yes, the photo is from Gordon (2072).

  • +1

Any ideas on how to find stock? I tried my local store but they say they don't (ever) stock the Vodafone phone. I tried ordering online but received a refund as no stock. I'm in WA.

    • +3

im having the same issue. even when it says in stock online, i call up and they all dont have any. not sure if they're lazy or something, but i haven't got much choice other than to take their word for it.

      i used this link:

      https://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&lsft=store_code:woolw…

    • I got one from Woolies on last deal. Have you tried click and collect? I ordered and picked up at Bentley.

  • +1

All phone deals should have a title like this one.

  • +2

Great price but no stock. I checked with Adelaide CBD and they looked up all SA stores. I called 4 of the stores with "stock" but in every case they were showing stock because of returned faulty handsets that had come back into store.

    • +2

Not sure if there was anymore stock but I got one from Seaford SA this morning. Perhaps a fluke but was the first store I tried.

      • you're a star! I got one from Seaford Meadows store last night :)

    • +1

Did that search include regional stores? One bonus of country living.

      • There were 4 at Strathalbyn store yesterday morning which is sort of close country :)

        • Cheers, so all of SA above is just metro SA. I;ll have a look at the local then

  • +4

Is a third party unlock (eg via ebay) available for this phone?

  • +1

    Can't find stock.

  • +1

Bought this phone as a backup and it has a nice "feel" to it. Lightweight but quality build, don't regret it as a "cheapie".

    • Where did you buy if from?

      • Got it from the previous Woolworths deal $77

  • Got the last at Oakleigh South (Vic). Lots of places said in stock online but on calling had none.
The Google maps "what's in stock" feature on Android was useful to guess at which stores to even call

  • I have checked in Radwick and bondi junction no stock

  • Thanks OP. Picked one up at Woolworths Sunbury at about 1:30pm. They had two in stock at the time, so may be one left.

  • Anyone running Waze or Here Maps on theirs as an in car GPS?
Similarly anyone using it as s cheap digital audio player, using say Power AMP.

I currently have a Ulefone U008 for this but it is getting ghost touches and will need to be replaced soon.

  • Ended up getting one from Lisarow, near Gosford. None left near here now.

    • Talk about luck. I rang Lisarow on Saturday 6/10, they had one, so rushed down and bought it, definitely none left now.
Quite impressed with how quick this phone is. There was a 1.6GB update then a small 60mb September update.
Bonus it is vanilla Android, no bloatware.

      • So that means they must be getting restocks, because the lady there had to go through the entire cupboard to find my one.

        • Possibly, I had rung all Central coast Woolworths and none had stock.

  • Asked for a rain check and after checking on their system, they said stock might come in next week or the week after.

  • Picked one of these up yesterday in Gympie. The front of the outer box (i.e. Vodafone's packaging) says 13MP camera but everywhere else I've seen says 8MP front and rear.

  • thanks OP, got it down to $80 with egiftcard and team member discount

  • Thanks OP. Got one.

  • If you call vodafone and ask nicely they will add the $40 credit to your current Vodafone account, effectively making it a 50 phone. Great phone too.

  • I thought this phone has dual sim ?

    • +1

No, the version sold at WW is single sim.

  • I used this as an emergency phone: Build seems to be good but Screen a little small for my liking. Was as smooth as running as my old Xiaomi note 3, but performed well. Did play a few gambling apps on it (like fake pokies) and phone would sometimes go slow, but most of time was fine. Battery life was ok compared to xiaomi. Durability was good. Lasted 3 weeks until new phone arrived

  • How does this compare with an xperia xa or m4 aqua? My dad has an m4 aqua that broke. Trying to get away from the xperia ecosystem and bloatware. So this seems like the same specs but may be faster due to less running processes.

    • Got one… Seems pretty good so far. Staff should be able to give you stock numbers at nearby stores without phoning. Seems like a new stock system.

      • still available?

  • bought it online, with booze, got up to $150, used CUPONATIONOCT for $10 off.
Bought a carton of arc valley for $30. couldn't use woolies rewards points cause it knows I used the coupon before.

  • Still available at some stores. None at Fountain Gate but were kind enough to check other stores and let me know Berwick was getting more stock today. Picked up one this arvo. Cheers OP.

  • Anyone picked one up lately? My store said the price will run until christmas, so more stock expected

    • I just picked one up yesterday, after store ran out of stock initially. And yes, they are still the same price.

  • Still trying. Can't find one. Asked 2 stores for a rain check, but they both said no because $89 is the usual price now until the end of the year.. . Tomorrow's catalog "Nokia 3 4G..$119!" It's seems they are claiming there is a different Nokia 3 model,or 2 stores lied?

    • See above. Stores do replenish stock.

      • Cheers. Current catalog shows it at $119. I dropped into a regional Woolies (they had heaps) and got one and it still scanned up as $89. Got 10k.points bonus as well.

        • Got 10k.points bonus as well.

How did you manage that? :-)

          • @bluesky: Grabbed a few other things and I recon there was a spend $100 get 10k on ER card or similar.

            • @tunzafun001: Good on you :-) … 10K is $50, that makes your phone only about $40. Maybe less if you bought with wish card!
