Telstra Alcatel 1X Grey 4G Prepaid Mobile Phone $69.00 @ Woolworths

40

See this phone sale at $99.00 (RRP $129.00) on current Woolworth catalogue.
But when scan it, it shows $69.00. Guess woolworth mixed it with Alcatel 1C ($69.00 in current catalogue) when set price in system.
This is not a very good phone, especially comes with 1GB RAM only.
But at $69, it should be the cheapest fullview display phone at 5.3"
Main features:
* Android™ 8.1 Oreo™ (Go edition)
* MTK6739, Quad-Core (4 x 1.3GHz)
* 5.3” FullView 18:9 display
* 16GB ROM 1GB RAM
* 8MP rear/5MP front camera
* 3G B1/2/5/8
* 4G B1/3/7/8/20

    locked ? easy to unlock ?

  • regarding unlocking Alcatel 1x.
    I got a photo of the box to get the IMEI then checked with about a dozen unlock code sellers in ebay Australia/UK/USA. only one guy said he can "try" to find an unlock code and he wanted USD$15 for it.
    https://www.unlockriver.com/ asking for USD$14 (~20AUD) to unlock it.
    Headed to a telstra shop to get a hands on feeling as well.
    The 1X phone runs a light weight version of Android oreo and can feel slowness when using certain apps.
    So I've given up the idea of buying this even if it is $60 reduced from RRP.

    In my opinion Alcatel U5 (5044T) (vodafone/telstra) is a better phone (cheap to unlock, not feel the slowness as 1x).
    Optus branded Alcatel U5 (5044T) is called Optus X Spirit. But they have blocked the 850MHz 3G band in Optus X Spirit. So you cannot use Optus X Spirit on telstra network to make calls (even though you unlocked it) as telstra network uses the 3G 850MHz band to make calls.
    Note: I think you can enable the 850MHz band by flashing a different ROM (I haven't tried it though) as it does have the hardware capability.

    So there are two things to remember when buying prepaid;
    1. Cheap to unlock
    2. Support all applicable 3G bands (850, 900 and 2100).

    Hope this helps.
