Need a job at Westpac first

      • +2

I suppose your condition must also allow you to. But at the end of the day, as long as you're happy with the upgrade to your living standard and you blend in to your new environment

    • +13

Let the horse rest in peace.

      • +13

        Never.

      • +3

The fame of this probably got back to Westpac and he got sacked.

        • +2

I interned in WIB and asked around re that poster and no one had the slightest as to what I was talking about.

      • +7

noooo it's one of my favourite ongoing Ozbargain jokes. I laugh everytime I see it, it's amazing.

        • Oddly, nobody mentioned bikies

    • +1

      Only if first impressions count.

  • +82

I tried to buy one but this guy got in just before me and grabbed all 6 at my local store. He's obviously gonna resell them on eBay it's so annoying i just wanted one

    • +6

Was his name Broden by any chance?

    • I'll wait for the weekly 10% off ebay sales to snag one bruh

      • But but but pricejacking!!

      • Don't forget to create 120 new Ebay accounts for the 5 x 10% off gift cards.

The cars would probably be sold out to some anonymous Westpac investor by the time you type in all the codes.

    • Is this a grey import?

      • +1

Yeah 2 of them were grey but the others were white, blue, black and silver. Why do you ask?

        • +2

          because tax refund at TRS

    Ultimate Money Pit

    • +11

If BMW made boats, that would be the ultimate money pit

      • +1

They have done in the past - saw one at the Munich BMW museum. Beautiful.

But it would be expensive to maintain indeed.

        • Wow. What year was it made?

  • +7

    Thank OP, bought 3

    • +2

You beat me by five seconds!

      • +7

        Any CashRewards?

        • +19

          Nope, just CrashRewards

      • You must be fun at parties

  • +2

    Thanks Op, bought 5.

  • +1

Looks cheap, but I am after 5 series. 3 is too small.

    • +3

It's not about the size but what you do with it that matters.

      Wait wrong thread.

    • I'm kind of the opposite - I'd like something smaller. If money was no object, I'd love the M2 Competition. But obviously money is an object, otherwise I wouldn't be reading OzBargain :P Even if I had the cash, though, I don't think I could buy a European car - they're beautiful, but I don't think I could trust them from a reliability standpoint. It's the kind of thing I could only keep as long as it was under warranty.

      • +3

From my experience, BMWs are far more reliable than Holden's.

I'd never buy anything else except for 2 things: initial cost, and repair costs if/ when things go wrong.
The biggest myth I've heard is the service costs. I've always been able to find great, reasonably-priced independent repairers.

I reckon trading while under warranty is a great idea - that was our initial plan, but still have our 2008 320d because turning over cars is such a lot of money. So we've spent something like $5-6000pa for a very reliable, very comfortable and cheap-to-run car. Extravagant I'd say. I didn't know about ozbargain at the time.

        • "More reliable than Holdens" isn't exactly a huge endorsement, but I understand what you're getting at :P

I've mostly owned Japanese cars, simply because I've always found them to be closest to that sweet spot in terms of price vs quality. But I do find myself more an more tempted by some of the entry level cars from the performance arms of the German manufacturers. In particular the BMW M2 Competition and the Audi RS3. Both are dangling there just out of reach of what my budget can afford, so I'm thinking in a couple of years they may become a possibility when there are some late model used ones on the market. But then they'll be out of warranty (or nearly out of warranty), and the spectre of the fabled Euro car reliability / repair costs starts looming over them.

Like you, I like the idea of turning a car over as soon as it runs out of warranty, but also like you I can't really justify the expense compared to keeping a car for 8-10 years.

          • @AngusD: There's some cracking Japanese cars now for relatively cheap (and they look great too). My current Merc is the first Euro car I've bought since having a couple of Fiat's and Alfa's back in the early 90's.

I drove the RS3 as well and I couldn't decide - It's an absolute animal!

All I can say is that once you decide to make the jump, you'll see why people do it and you'll never be able to go back.

      A new angle - I like it!

    • +1

The first picture looks like HIM explaining his "high yield investment" idea during the job interview. The reactions of the 3 interviewers are priceless.

  • +1

Thanks OP, bought 7, one for each day pf the week, waiting for Cashrewards to confirmed cashback…

    • -8

Your attempt at humour has failed.

      • At least I'm trying.

    "COMPLIMENTARY METALLIC PAINT" …Nice

    • +1

Anyone else also find it weird that BMW puts in the ad it include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)? Come on, what car doesn’t have ABS? This isn’t 1994!! May as well put it has a “door with windows” as well

      • Some small cars don't have ABS, they can only be sold in WA, Hyundai i10 or i20, for example.

        • Modern era cars? Cmon even the i10 should have ABS surely?

          • @inasero: On small cars, like the i10, it would add weight and it would never be needed, as the tyres are small, and the brakes are weak.

  • +1

Let see will it as popular as last time.

    • Felt like I was having a stroke reading that. Thanks

      • +2

Because the exact same comments are being rehashed on this deal?

  • +6

Good deal but this model is looking really dated now and the new 3 series just can't arrive quickly enough. Personally I'd buy an Alfa Romeo Gulia over this for very similar price but each to their own.

    • +2

Test drove both and I must say the Giulia is f*kn awesome. If only it doesn't lose half its value in the first km.

      • +15

If it won't break down in the first year of light use

      • +1

Just don’t leave it out in the rain. It will rust unless you have a towel ready after the drenching.

        • You're getting your stereotypes mixed up; Alfas have shitty electrics/are unreliable, Mazda's rust.

          • @TheContact: Nope. A friend had an alfasud in the 70s and after 5 years it was a rustbucket. Fiats are the same too.

            • @ibuy: Alfa and Fiat have come a long way since the 70's (they've even sorted the electricals!).

Alfa's performance cars are nothing short of brilliant now.

Not sure about the rest, although I have a mate who has had an Alfa Giulietta as his daily driver for 6 or 7 years now and it's been flawless, and the Fiat 500 is super reliable and fun to drive as well.

I didn't buy either though, because the depreciation is insane.

    • Half a percent cheaper now due to inflation.

  • This deal has been going for at least 6 months

  • +2

Can you compare this to my Nissan tiida?

    • +2

Sure.. financially you saved yourself 30k and still were able to commute to places you were intending to go….. Lol

Can't comment how it compares when it comes to attracting the opposite/same sex… Or if that is worth the price difference… Some google reviews may help :p

  • +1

These days, BMWs are middle-class cars. Not that special anymore.

  • +37

What advantages does this motorcar have over, say, a train - which I could also afford?

    • +3

Will get three hundred hectares on a single tank of kerosene

    • +1

      Different terms and conditions.

    • +2

Way cheaper. And you won't need permission from rail authorities to drive it around.

    • +1

      @ireadtermsofuse

Thanks mate… I just lost my drink through my nose and onto my keyboard!
100% my type of humour, very funny :).

    • +3

Well, you'll notice how the heated gas pedal warms your feet.

    • It's more reliable, comfortable, less packed and costs the tax-payer less.

  • -2

For that money, in a years time, you’ll be able to pick up a Tesla Model 3. I know which one I’d rather.

    • +4

A year optimistically, but I'm with you on this one.

  • +28

Do the indicators work on this BMW?

    • +8

It's always optional for BMW drivers.

      • I think they assume the indicators would be automatic - everything else is

    • +1

Only if you go to wash the windows. Had a BM for 15 years now and still occasionally turn the wipers on instead of the indicators.

    • +1

I believe they are now sold with a full tank of blinker fluid.

      Check with the dealer.

      • just called, its a $1,500 option or get the VIP premium package for $10,000
