  • the last time i tried a chiko roll it didnt seem to taste like it did when i was a kid… maybe it just wasnt cooked in that fish and chips oil like they would have in the good ol days.

      they've changed the recipe…

Ms Chesters said the ingredients had changed over the years with the family confirming both beef and mutton were used.
"They did confirm there's never been any chicken in the roll," she said.
But Ms Noonan said even animal feed was thrown into the mix at times.

Great price. Shame it's such a long way to the shop.

    Scab pro tip #1:

No Need to fry, place on baking paper and put in oven 180 degrees for 15 mins.

    Comes out perfect.

Scab Pro tip #2: A Chiko a day keeps Tightarse at bay.

    • Thanks Scab, I was about to post a comment asking the best way to cook a Chiko roll?

I used to eat these almost every day, sadly today they taste somewhat like wallpaper glue mixed with cabbage wrapped in a delicious roll.
    Tasty !
    I think i'll keep my $2.67

A post of mine from one of the previous Chiko deals…

Friggin' love Chicko Rolls and they're BBQ'able too! Formulated this method myself last Australia Day:

    1. Throw frozen Chiko Roll direct from pack onto hooded BBQ grill. Fire up BBQ and set to medium heat to give eventual hood temp of around 200C.
    2. Turn 90 degrees once every 5 mins (20 mins total) lowering the hood each time.
    3. Remove, salt up & enjoy!

Cooked - Mmmmm, lovely charry grill stripes… mmmmmm
Ready to eat - Look at all those VEGGIES!!

Not quite as good as being deep fried in over-used oil at the local chew'n'spew but close enough :)

    • I don't have a deep fryer so i'll try your method. Thanks!

Oven, they're already par-cooked so the oil oozes out of them and they come out great.

        • I just love cooking on the barbie because it's new. BBQ chips work out to be quite good :)

I was told they were vegetarian at a takeaway. Lucky I am not vegetarian.

Was a bit difficult growing up as a boy and not paying attention to all the posters for these at just about every fish n chip shop!

Did anybody ever consume with these any kind of sauce or other condiments?

    • Drizzle of soy on occasion.

Nice post but it lacks passion

    😛

  • Anyone know if these taste as good as the ones at the Tuckshop at school from back in the days??

    • +2

I think theses would be a lot fresher.

  • If someone can tell me what's in em I'll buy it

    • Cabbage + MSG… oh and traces of meat.

      • Still not buying it lol
