  • How do you know what hotels? Is it American only hotels?

    • Worldwide I assume. I'm sure there is some exclusions. Worked on a few I tried today in Australia.

        And a partridge in a pear tree…

  • Hmm wonder if this would work with 28 degrees

    • +2

Would have thought 28 degrees (or the equivalent cards from bankWest or citi) was the perfect card to use for this, since it's a mastercard, and it has no international fees when you're billed in USD.

  • nice find

Single use or can it be used for multiple bookings?

Should update title to say hotels only, if it doesn't work on flights.

    • SINGLE

  • hmm what would happen if i paid with something other than mastercard…

    it still seems to apply

    • There's an ongoing 12% coupon for expedia.com.au when you pay with mastercard. It validates the credit card during the payment.

Not sure about this coupon though.

        Thanks. What's the coupon code?

  • Has anyone tried getting multiple shorter stay reservations and linking them up at the hotel as a single reservation with a promotion like this?

    • From the hotel point of view, it should be fine - you can probably negotiate a solution with the front desk, after you make the bookings.

From expedia point of view - I'm still not sure that the coupon will work for multiple uses. Creating multiple expedia accounts could work…

      • Multiple email addresses and mastercards should work I think.

Guess should work in theory, except if hotel doesn't cooperate for whatever reason (eg https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/349268#comment-5412502)

except if hotel doesn't cooperate for whatever reason

That guy said he wanted until check-in to tell them … I would email them up immediately after making a booking. The reality is that turning over a hotel room between guests is much more expensive than keeping the guests in the same room, so it's the hotel's interest to keep you in the same room.

When I said "negotiating with the front desk" you might try paying for an upgrade or accepting a downgrade to stay in the same room.

        • @salmon123: Good catch. You comprehended the broken English better than I.

        • @salmon123: In the end, I took the $75 discounted price (which was a refundable room) and got Club1Hotels to beat it by a further US$50 (still refundable)!

        • @marquise:

Nice - is Club1Hotels a reputable website? The problem with refundable hotel booking is that the agent doesn't always forward the booking to the hotel straight away. They might wait until a few days before your stay.

Did they ask for a screenshot or did they try to verify the the cost themselves or did they just take your word for it?

        • @salmon123: I have booked 3 hotels for myself and friends through them before. The site isn't great, but the value is excellent if you can figure out how best to use it. I always provide screenshots and correspondence will be via email. If we come to agreement they send a payment link.

It's a good way to lock in plans with the flexibility to change them. Only have some fx rate exposure if refunding (which sometimes can work in your favour).

They also regularly have 10% off egift cards (and recently a rarer 12% off special). Good way to lock in USD rates. Can't use them with a price beat though.

    • Doesn't always work like that. For example, Bedroom A is available Mon-Wed. Bedroom B is available Wed-Fri.

If you tried booking 5 nights normally it would not be possible, however, because you booked 2 stays, they can allocate you in two different rooms. While it may be possible, be prepared to check out / check in each time.

      • If you tried booking 5 nights normally it would not be possible, however, because you booked 2 stays, they can allocate you in two different rooms

You should check before hand that the same room type is available for the entire 5 day period and for the 2 sub-stays. Of course if the room type isn't available for the entire stay, then yeah, it's going to be more difficult to keep the same room. Again, call/email the hotel immediately after booking to put in your request to keep the same room.

  • Does this mean we need to pay in USD and account for foreign exchange fees?

Also is this mastercard debit or credit or either?

    • +2

Expedia.com gives you an option to pay in usd or AUD, although with my booking their conversion rate was worse than the card rates (+fee).

  • If you spend $600 do you get a $150 discount?

  • Just booked a hotel in Tas for $310 USD and got $75 off. Paid with 28deg card. Yew!!

  • +2

Just used this and paid in AUD.

"Add your Mastercard to your Expedia account and get $75 off instantly when you book a qualifying hotel on Expedia.com using your Mastercard, -A$107.78"

    Not bad!

  • Used it.
Signed up to expedia rewards, and got the 10% better Member prices.
Forgot to apply the Mastercard code in the coupon section. Paid full price.
So cancelled the order and re-booked it using the coupon.

Overall, got it at ~$170 cheaper than going directly through the hotel ($548 vs USD$276=$380ish)

You're a champ. First time I tried this there was no promo code field. Signed in, still nothing. Closed up, did the search again logged in and there it was. Threw it in, saved $75. Legend OzBargainer for sharing that with us.

Thanks bonjovi, you saved me $100AUD on a hotel!

  • Can you get the same deal again with the same mastercard? Can you only use the deal once per card

    • Once per Expedia.com account - I got a message on a follow-up booking saying the coupon couldn't be applied as it had been used before. Lucky that the 2nd booking was intended s a quote only.

  • This coupon still works, I think it might expire today or something.
