      Updated in OP

  • Should the title say (NSW) when this discount is available to anybody who wishes to buy a ticket?

    • Removed. Just thought I'd have it there as the GF is in Sydney.

Many grand finals have intercity teams. Melbourne is still in with a chance this year.

        • Phillip St will take care of that. (
If they somehow make it, they'll just strip them of their prize for <insert infraction>

Interesting contrast between the NRL and AFL. The latter sells out in seconds, with people paying thousands to scalpers, whilst the former offers discounts to get people through the gates.

Ive always pondered that. In my opinion AFL is a 360 game that is improved by being at the match. You can see things develop, the ball moves very quickly with little congestion. NRL is a game with a lot of action in tight, its difficult to see that live but it is enhanced on the telly. All relative, but thats my opinion.

      • Agreed with this, a few years ago I remember a promotion for getting special seats that followed the action near the boundary line like a tv camera sliding down.

In the cheap seats you spend half the night staring at the big screen.

Yeah NRL is a TV game. Which is why Foxtel & Ch9 pay so much for it.
Aso Melbournians are sports mad (probably because of the weather) and AFL is king amongst all social classes. It's also very easy to get to the games (all trains lead to the grounds).

Where as Sydney (& Brizzy) there's always been Union (traditionally supported by the wealthier class & private schools) and League (working class & public schools), so support & money was split. They also have nicer weather, and the stadiums aren't convenient to most (Lang Park isn't too bad).

funny how theres always banter from both parties about the 'best' game in Australia, with NRL fans more passionate than AFL fans yet NRL struggle to sell-out games including finals….i swear GWS (an AFL team in a heavily NRL-biased neighbourhood) can pack out more fans in a regular season game than an NRL finals.

NRL fans more passionate than AFL fans

      Oh I don't think so.

Super League killed a lot of interest & passion in NRL back in the day.
More importantly, AFL via AusKick is capturing the kids, and the kids drive the parents.

If you think NRL fans are more passionate than AFL fans, then you’ve never left NSW/QLD. In AFL states, especially in Victoria, AFL clubs are like a religious association, where it’s one of the things you often ask someone when meeting them, and it’s strange if they don’t follow a team.

    • You might want to get your facts straight before commenting on GWS crowds.

Wait til next weekend…. if it turns out to be a Storm / Roosters GF they’ll be giving tickets away

  • It's free on the TV
Probably $220 is the cheapest where you can actually see, even though that's not ideal.

And you can't even get tickets or this weekend's matches yet.

    • If they wait until they know who is in the final, they lose roughly 50% of their potential audience. Which is why they start selling GF tickets months in advance so people can dream if their team makes it. Old bloke at my work bought top seats in the hope the Dragons made the final, then gave them away when they lost.

  • I am willing to pay $3k to get to see the swans in GF at the MCG.

Thats before flights from sydney to melbourne + hotels
