Curious why so?
With the introduction of high definition TV, enjoying it at home has become more desirable. Plus with all the dependence on technology with video ref etc, its just more enjoyable to kick back at home with a beer than have to fight through Sydney public transport, pay $10 for a mid strength beer and $12 for a microwaved hotdog.
@cypher67 in a sad way, that is absolutely true.
I can agree with that
do you think its about the high def experience, and having better access to food and drink??!! you're really missing the point of live sport dude…
i used to pay over $100 a game to watch arsenal play in the premiership back in the uk, and i don't regret it at all. some of my favourite memories of my time in london are watching my team score/win/lose and being able to celebrate/commiserate with 60,000 other people, nothing beats that rush!!
imho this is a bargain, i'm getting into nrl and for the price, its fantastic - can't wait personally. and at least its warmer!!
@ASHGOON: It kills me to say it as I'm a league tragic but you're probably better off looking into AFL if I'm brutally honest. No idea why but NRL fans have such a lame attitude when it comes to supporting their teams. If they're not being chauffeured to the game and pampered like royalty then they're buggered if they can be bothered leaving the lounge chair.
A twenty for sudden death finals footy and all we do is whinge and moan and complain. Meanwhile the fans of the other code wouldn't miss it for the world.
I was planning on travelling the world but since they invented HD TV I've decided against it.
@ASHGOON: yeah, but watching premier league is far better and more exciting than watching nrl.
You can get your own food in … but let's not speak about the part that is really stopping you from going: laziness.
@soothslayer: You both have a point!
@soothslayer: if I want to watch sport, I stay at home and watch, if I want to get on the beers with mates I go to the game. Definitely better spectating at home, but better atmosphere at the game.
@ASHGOON:
I wish you had a point but there really will be no atmosphere at an 80,000+ capacity stadium less than half full.
Then there is a huge premium on top of the ridiculous ticket prices with way overpriced poor tasting food and drink! This "offer" has now expired anyway so that was a half-arsed effort. You really can't compare the experience of a Premier League game in a massive packed stadium full of vocal supporters on both sides versus an NRL game.
I do remember a time when we had atmosphere in stadiums and passion from fans but those days are long gone. Atmosphere and passion have been sold to the (discount code) of this offer. Too little too late unfortunately.
Well said
Zero atmosphere at most games due to being played in cavernous stadiums that are too large and a pain to get to. I stopped going a couple of years ago. This weekends games though should attract good crowds.
Its a shame because the 2014 GF is one of the best sporting events I've been to. But that's with 80,000 in the ground. Not so much fun when the usual crowds of more like 10,000 are there.
"100% of proceeds go to rural aid"
I think it's fantastic they are donating all the money for the tickets, nothing against that aspect.
I feel guilty now …. I will donate $20 to the rural aid appeal and still watch from home, win win.
Meanwhile, AFL will pull 80k+ to both finals this weekend.
What crowds are they expecting?
It'll probably struggle to pull 25,000
St George v Souths should get a good crowd, much better than 25k.
Get deal but christ…. the NRL really is struggling more and more for crowds.
They've surprisingly reported increased crowd numbers from the last few seasons too
NRL is going backwards with the current management at helm. Video refs not getting the decisions correctly, rule changes every bloody week almost, big tackles ruled as high tackles or illegal tackles because a player stays down injured. The game just isn't what it used to be anymore.
Biggest turning point is when they banned the shoulder charge, yes a played died from it but that was an unfortunate accident. Phillip Hughes got killed by a bouncer in cricket but did they ban the bouncer? NO!
Save these debates for elsewhere, mate. Not on my post, where I'm providing the Aussie community a good deal they might not have heard of.
I'm an NRL fan who lives in Sydney and I still find that price hard to justify
