Acer eMachine eMe732z Notebook $499 Delivered from Myfind (AKA Myer Online Shop @ China), NO GST

63

Intel Pentium Dual Core P6200
The eMachine model is priced very competitively at $498 – over $100 cheaper than other online IT retailers including Techbuy.com or iTech.

The Acer 5742, priced at $697, matches and in a few cases undercuts rivals, when compared on getprice.com.au, which could see the beginning of the high street retailer carving itself a bigger slice of the Oz electronics market if its maintains this huge price assault.

The new site is offering delivery for just $10 and is facilitated within 3-5 days via its relationship with China Post in conjunction with Australia Post.

There is also a postal facility if customers wish to return goods.

It's NOT Myer Online Shop, it's myfind (Myer Sourcing Asia Limited)

you can't return it to Myer, myfind is a separate company…

    • yes, i assume there is no australian warranty, only through myfind.com. it doesn't even mention the warranty period in the item info.

  • -1

You DO earn Myer One points.

There is NOTHING that CHINESE and INDIANS cannot do cheaper than us.

    This is disgraceful!

Did seem a bit strange so I did a quick whois, URI was registered in 1999, but contact email is myer.com.au so seems kosher. Surprised I've never heard of them before.

    • +1

MYFIND only started actually Trading this year.

Myer is only let this happen because of the Harvey Norman bullcrap with his GST for $1000 controversy.

I wonder if Australian consumer protection laws apply to them? Would they argue that since they're not in Australia, they don't have to obey them?

    • Thanks, that explains it.

  • +2

Not to be nitpicky, but a similar eMachines eME730 equipped with a Core i3 processor can be had for around the same price. (assuming that the cashback offer expires today — last day?)

However this one apparently has AMD fusion graphics, so not really a fair comparison.

how can a fusion be paired with a pentium? fusion is a integrated cpu/gfx set

      http://www.karbontek.com.au/Acer-eME732Z-P622G32Mn-Win7-HP-6…

I think this is the same specs. It says integrated Intel video. Myfind is very thin on details and only 2 laptops to choose from? Could get better offer from OW.

    • +1

Yeah, most likely Intel HD Graphics paired with the Intel Pentium P6200 processor.

      • Yep, I agree with you guys, I can't see a Pentium Dual Core being matched up with AMD Fusion; nor can I find any other references to this spec/model in searches.

I'm negging this based on the misleading nature of the specs, not necessarily the fault of the OP, but certainly Myfind.com have dropped the ball on this one. Gonna be some mighty unhappy people thinking they're gonna get Fusion under five hundred bucks only to be disappointed it seems!

      • Most likely the specs will be similar to this:

            Intel Pentium P6200 processor (2.13GHz, 3M cache)
            2GB DDR3 1066MHz SDRAM
            Mobile Intel HM55 Express Chipset
            320GB SATA Hard Disk Drive
            DVD super multi drive
            15.6" WXGA CineCrystal LED-backlit LCD 1366 x 768
Intel HD Graphics with 128 MB of dedicated system memory
            Webcam with 1280 x 1024 resolution
            Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n
            10/100 Mbps fast ethernet
            3x USB 2.0 ports
1x HDMI port with HDCP support
            1x External display (VGA) port
            1x Ethernet (RJ-45) port
            1x Headphone/speaker/line-out jack
            1x Microphone-in jack
1x DC-in jack for AC adapter
            2-in-1 Card Reader(SD, MMC)
            6-cell Li-ion battery pack
            Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium
            2.6kg with 6-cell battery pack

    10% difference …. not sure.
Not much of choice like commented before, and it is already hard enough to deal with Australian sales people,
I don't need non English speaking customer service people on the other side of the phone.
    Sorry No-Go.

I don’t need non English speaking customer service people on the other side of the phone.
      Sorry No-Go.

First of all, all support/enquiry communication for myfind is by email so you won't be getting either English-speaking or non-English-speaking people on the phone.

Second, all the overseas call centres I have delt with over the years (TPG, 3, Vodafone, Dell, et al), they do actually speak English well. I have never come across a call centre where they do not speak English.

      • +3

I didn't realise there were so many camels on Ozbargain! Anyone seen a cameltoe?

Most call centre's these days are quite good with their English, occasionally you might get some issues with telemarketers but most support (Netgear, Dell, Optus) seem to be OK for me.

          Anyone seen a cameltoe?

Not recently, but I'm always on the lookout for them! :p

          LOL

      • I have never come across a call centre where they
        do not speak English.

dont give these crooks any more money.
we already have them here, overpricing everything.
if you're going to bring something from overseas, buy from another company, and let them know what we think of their price gouging.
most australian large retailers should just dissapear, they're stuck in the past and are not willing to change.

mmm this aint much better, if better at all, than the other 500 lappys around.

    • do they do 720p/1080p decoding like the AMD fusion does?

I've been waiting for netbooks with these sorts of specs to start appearing for a while now.

      • as a couple of posts above, this doesn't seem to have Fusion at all. Its an integrated Intel, however it should have enough grunt to decode 720p at the very least.

        • Yep, the Intel HD graphics do a fine job of 1080p as well, that's been a feature since x4500. Even the old x3100 would do 720p easy enough IME! ;)

        • +1

with the 4500 alot of the work is placed on the cpu, on my c2d p7350 1080p is fine but on c2d culv u2100 720p is the max, both are 4500

Personally, I find this effort by Myer a cheap shot at local computer shops trying to give us the best deal while making a buck (ok, so a bit more), I'd prefer to buy from local computer shop.

Orange IT is one of those companies. I'd prefer this system:

    http://www.orangeit.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products…

It's a Lenovo, so feel more confident. ($469)
