FYI you have to pay for parking at these things as well (Sydney is $25 for standard parking from memory) and if you want to watch a mate you have to pay $20-25 just to watch.

Ultimate discount is buying a $20 spectator ticket. They haven't checked in the past and I have "spectated" several events.
