  • a $2300 laptop ends up being the same cost as a $2000 laptop, after the discount has been applied

    • Yeah not sure how Lenovo comes up with the discount — you might as well put in a few more extras to bring the value over the threshold.

  • Damn the Edge 13 looks mighty tempting for a uni laptop.

    I hate my slow-ass Compaq 515

    On thinkpad laptops
Spend $1000 and you pay $900
Spend $1500 and you pay $1200
Spend $2000 and you pay $1500

  • Any suggested builds for a 15.6" with Intel graphics all that's needed, but good battery life and build quality?

Also just tried a custom config and it's saying 3-4 weeks for build and 5 days dispatch… seems insanely long?

    • +3

Can't go wrong with the 15" Edge, current special ($649—Intel Core i3) ends 25th Feb but there will probably be similar specials next week on the Edge.

Here's an aussie guy on youtube that did a recent box opening and "review" on it:

EDIT: Actually I just tried it and discount is still active and along with SAVEONTHINK code you can get all this for $687.27:

      Intel Core i5-480M Processor (2.66GHz, 3MB L3, 1066MHz)
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (32 or 64 bit)
      15.6" HD (1366 x 768) 16:9 aspect Anti-Glare display with LED Backlight
      Intel HD Graphics
      4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)
      UltraNav without Fingerprint Reader
      500GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer
      6 Cell 2.2Ah Li-Ion Battery
      Integrated Bluetooth PAN 2
      ThinkPad Wireless BGN
      1 Year Depot/Express Warranty

This is a seriously good deal for a quality laptop with good specs.

      • Yes the coupon discount works ON TOP of the special items (unlike many Dell discount coupons).

      • How do you get $687.27? I'm getting $692.29 instead (for exactly the same configuration)… why am I paying 5 bucks more! That's not fair~ >_<

      • Special offers on 15" Edge laptops are now available until 4 March

Edge 15" laptop with Intel Core i3 processor, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD and camera. $659.00

Lenovo changed the config overnight. Bluetooth was included before.

  • I was having trouble deciding between this and the Dell from Microsoft Store but these coupons have pushed me towards Lenovo. Just got the Edge 14 for $687.27. Thanks scotty!

  • Seems those come wIth 32bit os only? Then no point of having 4gb ram.

    • Pretty sure you can configure the O/S during the configuration process.

    • there is 32bit and 64 bit

    • Oh ya, its my fault. So you have to select either 32 or 64 before adding to cart? you will only get 32 or 64 as you selected?

      • So you have to select either 32 or 64 before adding to cart?

yep, at the customization (System Components: Operating System)

you will only get 32 or 64 as you selected?

        yep

        Good deal, +1 from me.

Thanks scotty for posting this deal and issh and FOX for clarification :)

  • Anyone know the difference in battery life between having a 6 or 9 cell battery on the thinkpad edge 14"? Also does it stick out?

    • Quote from thinkpads.com (review-lenovo-thinkpad-edge-14)] "http://www.thinkpads.com/2010/08/10/review-lenovo-thinkpad-edge-14/".

"Lenovo would have done better to increase the capacity of the 6-cell battery, rather than forcing people to rely on a 5.29 lb 9-cell package that likely sticks out beyond the chassis when equipped with the 9-cell."

FYI, good review of the Edge 14.

      • 2.4 kgs for a 9 cell battery?—oh I see, must be laptop + battery. Still, the weight is not too bad considering it's with a 9 cell battery.

    • I was unimpressed by reports of max 2.5 hours battery life so bought the 9 cell battery. It lasts between 4-6 hours depending on screen brightness (full/65%), and I'm pretty happy with that. This is with Ubuntu 10.10 — Windows 7 may perform better. It does stick out a litle — see photos. The combination of battery and laptop weights 2.14 kg according to my kitchen scales.

  • Unfortunately the discount is on a per laptop basis only. ie If you buy 4 x $600 laptops you don't get a 35% discount.

    • That would be awesome!

  • Looks like a good deal..have been watching for couple of weeks….
Any one can let me know if getting AMD dedicated graphics and 1 year onsite warranty is worth buying..for Edge 15.

    • onsite warranty is always worth the money, sending it back to the base can take a week, onsite its generally repaired where you want the next day

if you have a problem that is

      • Thanks Mikinoz, makes senses! For $33 not a bad deal i think for a 1 year peace of mind.

  • Thanks Mikinoz, makes senses! For $33 not a bad deal i think for a 1 year peace of mind.

  • don't forget moneybackco cashback another 7%
edit: geez just checked now dropped to 3.5%

  • Good price and I think they are clearing stock as the new models T420 T520 X220 etc are coming soon (Sandy Bridge platform).
