You had a chance to promote Dr Pepper. You've failed us doc.

      • +1

Maybe he has his prepper brand of Cola, Dr Prepper, which comes with free bugout kit. Didn't think of that, did ya.

  • +1

Ooh.indeed. great timing.. never had it with a drink though.. usually with a face mask which makes it hard to drink anything.
I usually buy one of these surface spray bottle leading up to summer for the pergola to get rid of the various creepy crawlies.
    Thank you OP.

Mortein Outdoor Professional DIY Surface Spray $14

How much is the amateur one?

    • +3

      Normal price

    • It's cheaper but doesn't last as long

  • +7

Just a note for anyone buying this product - it did work for me 6 months ago when I sprayed it all around my home. It worked great and I will be buying again to redo it, however, the pump it comes with is horrible. I bought a spray bottle from Bunnings which worked a lot better.

    • I know right.. I've also done the same.
Over the last 8 years..I reckon it's been a 50% working ratio with the included pump. It's been a spray bottle the other times. I recycled my old spray and wipe bottles. C'mon.its ozbargain.

Yeh, I've bought 2 of these, returned them both - solution was too thick, just wouldn't squirt.
Ended up since buying the Coles version (has a battery-powered spray… WITH batteries)
I can't speak for comparison of the 2 insect-deadly products, but for ease (and REGULAR price), Coles did the job

    • Agree, the pump is simply horrible.

I bought the Brunnings Defender from Bunnings - the pump works much much better and the insecticide as well seems to do a good job of keeping bugs away.

    • What type/size spray bottle did you buy?

    • +2

Instead of pump or spray bottle, I have also tried using paint brush to apply the product around windows frame, less mess than spraying.
But it would be faster with spray if doing it outdoors..

    • Love bees.. and agreed we need them indeed.. . Just not under the pergola.lol. They have free reign out the front and the backyard at my place.

    • +1

Does this kill bees? I thought it was just for cockroaches etc? If It kills bees as well then i will pass on it.

      • +2

Highly toxic to bees if you spray it on flowers. I find a few dead bees the next day if I spray it on a wall where there's plants with flowers on it although the chemical was not applied anywhere near the plants. I guess the wind will carry the overspray and land it on unwanted location.

Cockroaches are handy and don't deserve the stigma they have. They're good little cleaners that eat all sorts of stuff including oils.

There was a thing on Gardening Australia about them once, really interesting.

      • +1

which is why i dont kill any insect or animal ,they all have their purposes. Saying that at times i have gone and taken out some pantry moths after they ate up a hell off a lot of our grains, foods, i had no choice as there seemed to be no way to catch them and release them.

      • All insects deserve a place outdoor. You don't want cockroaches indoor, once you have an infestation they are very hard to get rid. Termites for example…

I used to use this all the time until I found coopex.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/bayer-25g-coopex-insecticide-sac…

It's the same stuff your local pest control guy would use. It's essentially the same thing as the stuff in the Mortein product.

Mix with water and then spray with a garden pressure sprayer.

    I found it to be

    1. Much more potent
    2. Longer lasting
    3. last forever when used according to the instructions
      4.safe for indoor/outdoor use
      5.cheaper,especially if on special
    • +1

Mate, I agree with you on all points except 5 (I have never seen it on special)

    • +2

      They are not the same.
      Mortein active ingredient is Deltamethrin.
      Bayer Coopex is Permethrin.

As to which is a more effective bio-insect-weapon is up to you and google. Both are long-term spray they are not instant kill. Have to wait overnight for the results.

If you want real professional sprays that has longer residue life, look up Cislin25 or Temprid75. Both excellent outdoors, 12 months in my case. It's more of what sort of target you have and the type of insecticide applied. Most pretend they target various insects but one may control spiders better and the other more effective at cockroaches.

All of these are Pyrethroid highly toxic to Aquatic life so please don't drain them anywhere near a stream or down the drain.

These are solids suspended in water so keep the liquid agitated regulary by shaking the container. Wear mask, gloves and goggles, clothing that protects your skin from direct contact.

  • Horrible pump. I can’t believe they couldnt get that crappy pump fixed over the years.

  • Wonder what it does to animals that eat the dead insects

    • +5

      Levels them up.

  • +2

Read the warning: Very toxic to bees.

    • +1

IF thats the case, then i think this shouldnt even be up here or sold anywhere. We have a problem as it is with Bees in the world …

      • The flowers you buy from the shops? They are usually laden with such insecticides. A flower shop is basically any insects grave. Boycott those first.

        • +2

Actually I stopped buying flowers a long time ago, such a rip off.

  • Was trying to kill some wasps. Kept spraying them, but none of them died. Does not work on wasps.

    • +2

This isn't an instant kill like the can's, it works over time to keep them away rather than dealing with just the ones that are out.

  • Shittest pump ever. Bought two bottles and then had to go to Woolworths and buy a pressure pump for $5. Worked like a charm
