However you definitely don't want a wrist rest of this sort: using it means you'll be utilizing your wrist as a pivot point to move the mouse, which is actually worse for you. Your elbow should also be doing some of the work in moving the mouse, i.e. movements not restricted to just the wrist.

Disagree. I can't function without a wrist rest. It is definitely useful for some people.
Using your arm to move them mouse is definitely more ergonomic than using your wrist as a pivot point. Ideally, you want to minimise bending of the wrist.
You bend your wrist slightly to the left and right when you use a wrist rest only, and it's much better than bending your wrist upward in a much bigger angle and for prolonged period of time.
These are useless, just get a vertical mouse. It will take a little time to get useto but you never have wrist or arm pain. They may be a little expensive.
