Can vouch for Tangerine, been with them a couple years now and it's been a pretty top-tier experience. Although I think they've recently outsourced their previously Australian support?

  • What is your evening speed?

    • Typical evening speed for the nbn50 plan is advertised at 42Mbps. Hope this helps

    • +1

It depends what your downloading. As with most budget ISP's streaming data is prioritised over some other protocols.

I was with Tangerine last month and pulled the pin within the 14 trial period.

Why? Most of my evening data use comes from downloading/streaming media from my seedbox (FTP server). During the day this would come in at full connection speed (50Mbps), but at night this would drop to 0.25Mbps. The same sort of speeds as MyRepublic who I've also been with.

I moved to Exetel and I'm getting 20Mbps on the same source server during peak.

As a plus, Tangerine did honour the 14 day trial without question.

      • Did they refund your money quickly?

        • Yes, the next day.

  • Any deals for nbn100? Have a 2 story townhouse and nbn50 never did the job well.

  • cheaper than optus with phone

So we have to tell Telecube first to disconnect? They are not answering our query about the credit, why would they answer our disconnection request?

    • If you are connected via FTTN or HFC you will need to disconnect with Telecube first. FTTP and Fixed Wireless can be activated quickly and easily.

      • Mine is fttn. It will be interesting how we deal with this situation. What happen if you just connect it and TC doesn't disconnect?

      • This is a killer for me, or I'd be signing my parents up immediately.
They have a VOIP service with their old landline number that they've owned forever with Telecube and really do not want to lose it. I fear cancelling the old service would do exactly that.

        • I also have the voip that I don't want to lose, but it is now the time to lose it as I only receive telemarketing and survey annoying phone call.

      • +3

That is odd, with FTTN and HFC it works the same as ADSL. The new service provider should lodge a service transfer, which will get you disconnected from your previous ISP.

Seems like Tangerine Telecom cannot be bothered doing the submission of Service Transfer so they tell their customers to disconnect first.

Seems like some ISP's are telling their customers to cancel first, but people have been able to do a direct transfer:
        https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2710473

I think the advice that ISP's are giving their customers around disconnect from your current ISP first is more to do with FTTP where you would get double charged, since FTTP allows you to have multiple ISPs hooked into the same line.

        • When I moved from ABB to Telecube, Telecube asked me to disconnect HFC with ABB first. In the process of moving to TPG NBN and TPG have not asked me to disconnect. I will send email to Telecube to request cancellation at end of the month and refund of next month credit anyway.

      • That's odd. My parents was with TC FTTN and just got switched over to Aussie Broadband today with minimal downtime. They signed up for Aussie BB last night after reading the TC email. So no, you don't need to disconnect FTTN

      • To be honest, I don't think this is correct. FTTN doesn't need to be disconnected from the outgoing provider, except to ensure that you don't keep getting billed by them.

        • Actually, looks like I'm wrong. The rep wrote this: "Due to Telecube and Tangerine sharing the same upstream carrier FTTN and HFC services will need to be disconnected prior to reconnecting with Tangerine. This is a limitation of our upstream carrier and is unavoidable we're afraid".

      • What if you're FTTB?

        Disconnect first, or no need?

  • When do we need to connect by? I have signed up with ABB and thinking to connect with you beginning of December. Will the offer still valid? And if I change my mind at later date prior to connection date, will there any charge?
    Cheers

  • Need to move off Telecube - may as well try a 50 plan see if the loss of speed is noticeable.

    Only $40 and no contract.

  • Can it be pre order and lock in the discount for first 6 months?

    ETA comnection Date 20/10

    • Order now with the promo code above and your pricing will be locked in.
Please just provide your Preferred Start Date during sign up.

      • can the preferred start date changeable as NBN may change the date.
Also when will I start getting charge?

        • Charges for your service commence when NBN activates your service.
You can adjust the date as much as you need.

        • @rich005:

Got it Will sign up soon

        • @rich005:

Why the system try to charge on my card when my prefer start dte is 26/10/2018 on sign up?

  • does tangerine have a local Perth POP or is data all routed via eastern states and back again? i assume you must be using same upstream provider as telecube has that being reason FTTN connections need to be canceled and signed up as new again?

but trying to get hold of telecube right now is ridiculous.

    • We use a Perth based POP. And your assumption is correct we use the same upstream carrier for NBN connectivity - although different network and CVC management set up from Telecube.

  • Silence is golden now

  • +4

I recently switched from telecube to Tangerine.

Worth mentioning that if you don't cancel and disconnect from telecube first, the porting can take 2 weeks. No fault of Tangerines, but OP might like to pitch in as to why.

    • Thanks for clarifying.

First timer on NBN here (FTTN), what's the best way to cancel Telecube considering they never reply to my emails for weeks. Is there an option in the account, or another way I should be aware of?

I was already looking at Tangerine so when I saw this offer it sealed the deal for me.

      • You don't need to cancel Telecube to switch RSPs

        • I'm not saying you're wrong but if we could clarify this I'd be grateful. The rep also stated above the need to cancel Telecube first.

"If you are connected via FTTN or HFC you will need to disconnect with Telecube first."

        • @Click_It: Maybe Tangrine Telecome doesn't support the same kinda of "transfer" as to Aussie BB?

My parents signed up to Aussie Broad Band FTTN last night at 11pm and got connected at 12pm today. All they had to do was re-run the quick setup from the modem and it got connected. Didn't even need to change the password and username. I was amazed how easy it was compared to ADSL churning

        • @Click_It:
Due to Telecube and Tangerine sharing the same upstream carrier FTTN and HFC services will need to be disconnected prior to reconnecting with Tangerine. This is a limitation of our upstream carrier and is unavoidable we're afraid.

        • @Homr: so the modem still have TC details?

        • @yht: I'm not sure…..I don't live with my folks

        • @rich005: oh…that's very interesting. So it's all based on luck rather if your 2 RSPs you are transferring in between have the same up stream carrier.

        • @rich005: Can't you guys work with your 'upstream carrier' and help out us poor souls connected with Telecube? I've tried cancelling my service and it goes on deafs ears. I really want to take up this deal, but I'll probably end up going with ABB since it's a smoother transition.

        • @ballsau: We tried hard to provide a smoother transition in this instance but unfortunately the limitations of our upstream carrier cannot be resolved/improved quick enough for Telecube customers.

        • +1

          @ballsau:

How does your post justify your neg?

  • how long does it take to acticate service, FTTB with Telecube.

    • After your service with Telecube is cancelled, if it's the morning when we can re-order we should be able to get you activated same day.

  • Do FTTN customers with Tangerine need to use a modem with VLAN tagging capability?

    • No, we do not require VLAN tagging. Thanks.

  • What payment methods do you accept?

    • We recommend direct debit from bank account, but can accept payments via credit card, BPay, Australia Post and EFT (bank transfer). Thanks.

  • Thanks for the quick responses. Could you please comment on the capacity you have at the Stirling exchange at the moment? I have 4 separate Telecube refugees that are looking to me to recommend a replacement, all on the Stirling, S.A. exchange .. and would hate to send them somewhere that is congested. None of them are "power users", but they do expect it to work well when they need it to. Cheers.

    • Hi Noz, we see good speeds reported across South Australia. I'm afraid I don't have specific data available on Stirling at this time however all our plans come with no lock in contract and a 14 day risk free trial - so if anyone is not completely satisfied with the service we'll happily refund any plan costs incurred up to the time of cancelling (within first 14 days!). We hope that this gives people confidence to check us out.

  • Is the static IP behind a CGNAT or equivalent?

    • I'd highly doubt it would be behind CGNAT … as that would basically defeat the purpose of a Static IP!

      • One for the network guys - and i'll let you know when I get a response.

        • Yes please

  • Rich005: any suggestions? I need to cancel my Telecube service but Telecube have gone dark, nobody home. I'd like to take advantage of your offer but effectively that means relying on Telecube to cancel their end, I'm skeptical of their capacity to do that now.

I might have to go elsewhere and potentially hop back to Tangerine from there. I can't afford to be offline from all this mess.

Have others made the switch yet today?

    • ABB advised me that I should not call TC or cancel until I am connected to ABB.

    • -1

Just switch to Aussie Broadband. It seems like a mess to transfer to Tangerine from telecube where else its pretty straight forward if you transfer to ABB

      • Yeah I'm looking at ABB now for the same reasons.

        • If you need referral to get free month, please pm me. Cheers

    • Hopefully its the same for Exetel…. I just did my transfer today, waiting to hear back.

  • Signed up, thanks

  • +1

    Considering that:
    1. You need to cancel TC first to avoid delays in connecting to TANG
    2. TC connections will stay running until 4th of Sept at least
    3. TC don't seem to be responding/acting on customer requests to cancel

.. TANG needs to extend this deal longer than 4th of Sept, otherwise they are putting people in an impossible situation.

    • Hi Noz, understand your situation. You can grab the promo now while it's still active. Monthly charges for your TANGERINE service won't start until the service becomes active.

      • Hi OP,
If I sign up today but not connected until November, will the price stays the same?

        • You can set your preferred start date during sign up to November and you'll still benefit from the promo offer. The pre-payment that you make will sit on your account until the service goes live. Hope this helps.

        • @rich005: Cheers

  • Hi OP,
According to your critical summary, you give no refumd for cancelling account and charging 1% for credit card payment. Is that mean that if I sign up now for Nov installation, then I change my mind prior to the installation date, then I will not get my money back?

    • If you change your mind before we submit your order - we'll just refund anything you have paid in full.

      • Cheers. Sorry another question. I am with TC now but move on to ABB, then in Nov will go with you. Am I still qualify for the offer?

  • How messy is the cancellation process should I leave after six months?

  • +1

Are you able to connect to a uni-d port 2 or 3 if I'm on FTTP?

    • +1

Hi AzzaD, yes we can activate on next available Uni-D port. We have extra staff on this weekend prioritising ex-Telecube customer orders.

  • I just signed up with Tangerine and got an email to say my expected speeds are 15-25 MBPS???? i don't get that if the usual speeds are 42-43 MBPS…I am on FTTP also. I currently have a service on Port 3 with Telecube so hopefully doesn't cause any issues although my internet is now dead with Telecube

    • +1

This has been sorted now have joined up and am getting 43 MBP/S therough wifi (FTTP)

  • yeah i am still waiting on tangerine to let me know what is happening with my FTTN transfer from telecube which cut off around 1:30pm today. sent them email as its past 6pm now and tech support unavailable will be intresting to see how quick they are to respond and get everything happening will be a good starter to how much i recommended them to others.

    • Any updates on this? I'm in the same boat, see my comment here.

      • +1

maybe give tangerine another call or live chat on there site for another update, i was cut off by telecube sunday 1:30pm and tangerine was able to get me back online on sunday less then 24 hours later, i was very surprised by the quick turn around, maybe NBN Co. have got really bad details for your address making it harder for RSP's to submit orders for your location seems you have just been unlucky with transfers, i started with skymesh then changed to telecube when skymesh got purchased by some UK company and they cut back on CVC by alot, telecube got me up with maybe 2-3 days downtime, tangerine have said they were trying to fast track telecube customers as much as they could when they found out Vocus was cutting people off early

so far connection has been solid with no speed issues with better pings then i had with telecube, i would say one of the better cheaper NBN providers right now

        • Thanks for your update. Rich from Tangerine has been looking very well after me so far, but it looks like now the case is at NBNCo hands. Fingers crossed.

  • I signed up 2pm friday online, got an email at 4:30pm to say the order had been submitted to NBN, at 8:45pm got email and SMS to say it was ready to go. I changed the username/password in my router and moved the cable to the different port on the NTU and it was up and going. All straight forward and painless (NBN fixed wireless). Speeds are better than Telecube too, averaging around 30/10 Mbps (I have a script that runs speedtest every hour).

    • Did you churn from Telecube FTTN? Edited oops I see it's NBN fixed wireless.

  • So I've got my FTTN service disconnected from Telecube by requesting so via email, cancelled since yesterday. So far that hasn't sped up my connection to Tangerine (which I've ordered a week ago). Tangerine say "we have a pending order for your service at this time with NBN". Sitting on the fence now, using prepaid 4G.

    • +1

Hi uk3000, i've reached out via PM to establish your account details. Pls let me know so I can provide you an update. Thanks.

      • I replied to your PM with my account number, thanks.

      • I'm up and running now. A great customer service and I'm getting 40+Mbps right now as I'm writing it. Can vouch for Tangerine. Thanks again Rich!

    • An interesting observation. First I churned from Barefoot FTTN to Telecube when Barefoot's peak times speed started to crawl, and it took almost two weeks to re-provision me. Now moving from Telecube to Tangerine, it feels like the downtime is gonna be about the same. All of them have/had Vocus as their backhaul provider. We'll see how it goes with Tangerine, but I guess if I ever have to migrate again, I'll be specifically looking for anything but a Vocus-backed ISP.

  • +1

Is it better deal using Refer a Friend codes than the promo code? Both referee and referrer get $25 instead of the promo code of $20?

  • I have just signed up and read their billing cycle: "All bills are due on the 15th day of the month. If you have just joined us, your first bill may include charges for more than one calendar month. This is known as pro-rata and is clearly explained in the details section of your monthly bill." So, technically, we need to pay the second month (which is $60) on September 15. I should have not signed up this deal if I know this.

    • +1

Hi hvn, if you have just signed up your first invoice will be generated on 1st October. This will include charges from the day that your service goes live until the end of September + the month of October. You will already have your first month pre-payment sitting as a credit on your account. Your next payment will be due on 15th October. A detailed email will be sent to you explaining this prior to you receiving your first invoice.

I hope this clears up your concern.

      • Hi rich005, if that's so, then all good. Thanks for your clarification.

      • i am still a little confused with my service going active on the 2nd of September and my payment portal does not show the first month pre-payment credit of $39.90 anywhere just that i have 1 invoice issued on the 1st of September due on the 15th of September with $0.00 prev balance and adjusted to $59.90 with dashboard now just showing $-59.90

also if i click the invoice details or the PDF it just has Data does not exist or PDF Statement is unavailable…

if i am correct in what i am seeing you have said to hvn should i not be getting first invoice generated till the 1st of October due on the 15th October with both the September pre-payment of 39.90 and Octobers charge of 59.90 showing on it?

will send you a PM with my account number so you can have a look if something strange has happened with invoices on my account.

        • Hi spedstyle. The -$59.90 you are referring to is your first month payment - you activated the $20 promotion - so only actually paid $39.90. This -$59.90 is sitting as a credit on your account so when you receive your first invoice you're starting with -$59.90 in credit. Your first invoice will include charges from 2nd Sept to 30th Sept ($55.72) + 1st Oct to 31st Oct ($59.90), so you'll have a payment of $55.72 due on 15th October.

          Hope this makes sense.
As i said we'll be emailing a details explanation of this ahead of your first invoice to ensure it is clear. Thanks.

  • It's been a couple of weeks since I've been up and running with Tangerine. I acknowledge their customer service is really good and responsive and, for the most part, the connection speed is reliable and fast as well. It appears though the traffic is getting heavily prioritized for the media content. E.g, fast.com always gives me a consistent 20-30Mbps, but then I also deal with a lot of work-related international VPN/SSH traffic, and that one can slow down significantly, literally to less than 1Mbps during evening peak hours.
I regularly find myself having to switch to 4G during that time of the day to get the job done. Then over 4G, the traffic speed to the same international destinations is back to the expected 10Mbps+, same servers, same peak hours.
So I'd say, the quality/price is quite OK for a typical household use, but maybe I myself have to move somewhere else.
