Stick an SSD in this and/or swap out the DVD drive for a SATA HDD bay and it'll be a good cheap beast for the parents or the kids.

  • Great post and good deal if you can snare a new/as new one as the details in listing state it could be slightly damaged/packaging.

A little heavy at 2.1 kg compared to the hugely popular Acer 14" +- $258 less cashback from JB & HN few years ago which was lighter at 1.8 kg, but did not have a DVD drive, lighter build, and lower specs ( Celeron Quad core and only 2GB ram ). Just sold mine with 4GB ram as new last week to a friend for $260, tempted for this with much faster CPU and probably more solid build.

Battery life stated for 8-9 hrs. so can realistically get 5 hrs and maybe more tuned down. Can upgrade ram up to 16GB/maybe 32GB but not sure, that would be overkill anyway for this. Would run nice as said above with ssd and 8GB ram.

I'm looking for a laptop but have avoided Acer due to their previous appalling unreliability.
Have they picked up their game?

When you are dealing with entry level below AU$800 laptops, all brands are fairly similar at that level with one to two % difference but Acer often provides better spec for your $.

This unit, although a little dated and providing basic specs offers great value and would match most brands below $600 for these specs, give or take some details.

What can you come up with in a 14" i3 laptop below $500?

I have one of the acers mentioned above from 2 years or so ago still going good but during the warranty period in the first year a key popped out of the keyboard. I rang support center and they said keyboards are not covered under warrantee. So i sent to china for a keyboard and installed myself cost $30 delivered.

this is their standard mumbo jumbo on all clearance item. bought one today, new sealed.

      • Hi mate is the keyboard backlit

        • I like your wishful thinking, but I doubt it. If it did MSY would usually list it in their spiel.

        • @ozhunter68:
Thought it may have as its listed on the US version of this model.

        • No it's not.

  • For people who don't mind a larger 15.4" form factor but same weight as this one at 2.1 kg then this Dell is a good deal too with 8GB ram and removable battery for $495 delivered for ebay plus customers.

  • Is this branch specific? I can only see it at $599…

    • They changed the price. I'll mark as expired for now, as they seem to have plenty of stock in the system.
