How long does this deal runs for?

  • I ported to Telstra's $49 / 25Gb with the JB Hifi $200 gift card back in May.

Has anyone had any luck via Telstra chat in changing their plan down to the new $39 / 20 Gb plan?

    • Nope, just had another go and mentioned that some people were getting it, the CSR replied: "I understand that there are some existing customer able to get the offer however Telstra is now investigating this incident and will do action to those who consultant who provides the offer.."

Think I'll give up for now and await further developments.

  • Jane is no good. I will reattempt with another operator

Went to JB and was ported across within 5 minutes (from Aldi). Porting from Amaysim to Aldi was a nightmare a couple of years ago, so this was a pleasant surprise.

So quick, I had to ask the JB employee for one of the SIM pin ejector things.

Such a great deal - if you were going to buy something at JB anyway, then including the value of the gift card, it's basically a touch over $22 a month for 20 gigs (on the best network in oz).

  • Danica is also no good but much much more polite and sympathetic. Its becoming too hard lol

At this stage, I will relegate back to Prepaid and organize a port out to say Optus or Vodafone and then take up JB Hifi Deal.

How long do I need to be away before I can report back to Telstra?

    Thanks in advance.

Can anyone that received the $39/20gig plan via chat please post the chat reference number?

    • +1

In so far 3 people I have chatted with, they all came back with the same excuse.

The system doesn't have that plan for $39/20gb and so you would have to manually override which some operators were quite reluctant to do that.

So that's that… I had to relegate back to prepaid and currently waiting till next Thursday then report back

  • Has anyone had success transferring to a BYO plan from their standard post-paid plan? I'm currently on a $99 plan plus $30 for my iPhone 8 Plus.

The BYO plans are hugely better value, for example the equivalent BYO plan with similar data and inclusions (international calling is important because it includes the country I call most) is $69.

I spoke to Live Chat and they said I could do that but my phone repayments would go up because they are subsidised on the plan I am on currently. I would have to pay an extra $15-$20 (so up to $50/month) for my phone, instead of the $30 I am paying currently.

Has anyone moved to a BYO plan and kept their same phone repayments?

    Thanks!

  • I don;t get the international calling value - isnt everyone using whatsapp now?

    • My fiancée doesn't always have data in her country, so FaceTime is sometimes not an option.

  • Can someone please tell me "no data sharing" means cannot tether?

  • No data sharing means you can't have multiple SIMs working off the same, single data pot. But you can achieve the same affect, assuming the devices are physically near each other, by tethering. You can tether to any device that has a SIM and data pot. More or less.

  • Last Friday I re contracted with optus for a new 24 month plan with the s8plus for $54 a month with 12gb data, unlimited calls ect. Since I haven't received the phone yet, is there a cooling off period I can use to cancel the plan.
I want to go ahead with the $49 ($39) plan with telstra and try and use the $200 gift voucher to knock down the price of a s8 or s9 at jb. Can this be done?

    • Maybe get out on coverage grounds

  • I’m a current Telstra customer. Contacted Telstra today to see how much it would cost to buy out of my plan. 1 month left on a 24 month contract. Normally 120$ a month with a phone. Wanted out so I could port back in with the JB HiFi deal. $100 to buy out (50 plan, 50 handset).

I told the guy on online chat about my plan. He said he could give me the $39 a month for 12 months with 20gb and unlimited calls and text. He would also wipe the $50 plan remaining. Couldn’t wipe the handset. (Figured now I’m $150 worth away from the JB deal). I needed something to sweeten the deal or I still would have tried the JB deal. He wouldn’t give me peace of mind so after some convincing I got an extra 5gb of data (25gb total)….

Accepted it as I really couldn’t be bothered porting out and in for probably $100 worth of gift cards/benefits. When some people are saying it’s a 30 day process which will probably be the end of the deal

    • Who did you talk to

    • Just don't kick yourself if a better offer comes out in a couple of months. LOL

hasnt been a decent deal from telstra for a while

        • Must be due soon then! Ha ha.

My wife's 12-month BYO expires soon. Maybe there'll be some good iPhone XXX offers.

    • telstra will always wipe the contract plan price providing you upgrade to the same or higher spend level(its even automatic via the system), and its normal to charge the handset (non discounted price)of course.

  • Just sign up this deal $39/month plan, manage to grab S9 for $670 (after $400 jb voucher and further discount). Will claim TRS next week , so it's not so bad deal for samsung S9 ~$570.

    Cheers OP

    • Hi Mate, can you pls elaborate more on how you get s9 for $670? This is a great price!

can you pls elaborate more on how you get s9 for $670?

“after $400 jb voucher and further discount”

      • The manager gave S9 price for $1070(from rrp $1199) minus $400 jb hifi voucher.oh plus staff price for phone case and cover (half price)

        • Thanks!

  • Any idea when the offer expires?

I thought end of Aug, but check with the JB you wanted to buy from.

Not sure where to put this but it's probably worth a mention - live chatted Telstra on Friday to negotiate my current BYO plan ($49/25GB - got JB deal in ~Oct last year) and was offered the above $59/40GB BYO plan, asked to see what he could do more and said he could only do a $15 discount off the $69. Basically told him I could move to Optus on one of their current deals (ie. $52/80GB) for less than that. Straight out asked if he'd offer it for $49 and he 'checked with his supervisor' and then changed the plan. Might be worth a try :) Spoke to Mohini

    • $49, 40Gb?

      That's a good deal

  • I havent been on post-paid service for a while, (so I'm a little out of touch) is there a service they offer to turn off data usage once you've reached your monthly limit?

    • If you have android phone, it's easy to set it up on your setting.

      • I have Oppo which uses ColorOS, from what I understand, its a crippled Android system and I couldn't see any monthly data limit restriction (only daily one which isnt all that practicable for this purpose)

    • No, the speed slows down after you reach the limit.

      • Incorrect, I asked this when I ported in today. The piece of mind service is only available for $69 and above

  • Just got the original deal today and I am an existing Telstra mobile customer, off-plan. It was listed as an "offer" in the 24/7 app. I did that but it didn't show up in my account, so went to chat and they gave it to me.

The additional data will help out with faster speeds on a hotspot, until I get NBN…. but that is another long story and could be anywhere from next month to sometime next year - sigh!!

Didn't read about the JB deal until just now - oh well.

    • Don’t worry, you wouldn’t have got the $200 anyway.
