Amazing light. Picked one up for $39 not really knowing anything about it. It only stays on turbo mode for about 3 minutes. It's truly amazing at night time compared to any of the 'decent' LED torches I'd bought in the past.

Thanks for ruining the eclipse for everyone the other night whilst testing yours out btw ;-)

Not really a deal when it was $39.10 shipped so recently as you mentioned.

Also it seems like overkill for the average torch user, I recently bought the ThorFire C8s for $17.36 shipped and it's awesome.

Of course it's overkill for the average torch user. But the average torch user has no idea what they're looking it. The average torch user also doesn't spend $50 on a torch.

  • Yeah the $39.10 is now the benchmark. (thanks for the post tho)

  • You forgot GST

I hear you on the PTSD - Post Thorfire Sale Disorder. Need group therapy for missing out on deals like that.

    • We need to raise awareness of this serious disease.

Don't you mean shed some light on it?

I want it but I want it for $39.10

They have repeated other torch deals so I'm sure it will be back again.

  • Have to say this thing gives my Thrunite Tn36 nw a run for its money and I purchased that for $199 back in the day. I can't believe how amazing this thing is for the $39. I almost cried when I thought I missed out.

Typical. Just received my Q8 having paid full price on Amazon. Only just signed up here and missed the $39 deal!!!

    I've got a bad case of Thorfever - C8, Q8, TG06S & VG-15S. At least I won't be alone in the dark, just alone :)

  • Back in the days of Luxeon 1, i paid almost $400 for a 6x D cell maglite conversion with a head drop. 58 bucks is next to nothing considering the light output it can put out.

  • Side question, any battery expert can recommend exactly which brand/model of battery is proven to work OK with Q8?
The more research I do and read on internet, the more confused I am.

Basically I prefer the protected version, but some says it doesn't fit the size or it doesn't crank out enough juice - if so, what are the unprotected ones I can use as long as I don't need to mod the Q8.

Was in your position recently when i picked up a Q8. Pretty much any set of 4 button top 18650 batteries that can handle 6 amps or more of continuous output should work. But the most popular recommendation are the Samsung 30q 18650 batteries.

I think the main issue is that most protected batteries trip when you hit 4+ amps. The Q8 on turbo pulls 20ish (and divided between the 4 batteries in parallel is 5 amps each). I was originally using 6amp protected panasonic 18650b's that i had already and they worked fine. But got an ebay discount code so splurged on some 30q's and there was a noticeable (though slight) improvement in visible lumens.
