prefer the USB-charging. no more mess around with batteries.

    • +1

Generally, yes. For an emergency light though replaceable batteries are useful.

That said, anyone buying these, take out the Duracells. They will leak in a few months and destroy your torch.

      • rechargeable batteries are still replaceable though

    • +1

What are you gonna charge this with when there's a zombie apocalypse and no power? Or someone decides to eat another bat,?

    • +1

      Yes get USB C ones.
Those sofirn sc31 Pro etc are good and Ozbargain favorites.

  • How long can it last with 2 batteries?

  • -7

WTF is a "flashlight" ? … googling … "US English for torch".

    around the house

Was that written last century? We all use our phones for that. But camping, yes, these look great.

200 lumens, 4xAA, 5hrs …. the maths actually works out, nearly. Usually it is complete BS. Like the "SWISS" part.

A duracell can do 0.5W for 4 hrs.

One question - will it work with Eneloops? ie is there a boost circuit? Because if this just connects the batteries direct to the LED, this is cheap crap.

need a trip to Chill-adelphia my dude.

"The original term for a portable electric light was actually “flashlight”, not “torch”. But both are acceptable, depending on where you live."

quote from australian writers centre website.

also apparently when using the word torch putting "electric" in front of torch is proper. while the word flashlight includes the electric part on it's own. TIL.

And if you live in Australia …

Gaol? Nah everyone gets taught jail now. I did 25 years ago.

          • @Clear: Probably for the better. The spelling of Gaol weirdly irks me.

          • -1

@Clear: Both are much older than that here.
Americans normally use the word "prison" instead. Over there "jail" has a more specific meaning, often what we'd call a "lock-up".

"Jails are short-term holding facilities for the newly arrested and those awaiting trial or sentencing."

  • Looking for an 18650 torch with 3-4 batteries for a long run time when I go camping. My wuben c3 is great but looking for a longer run time.

    • Could just get another couple of wubens.

    • I find myself going back to using an older LED lensor most of the time. The colour temp, brightness, adjustable lense etc is just better to use outside. Need to keep an eye out for a wuben more like that on sale.

    • Is there a need to keep extra batteries in the torch as opposed to in a bag?

  • +1

    is it genuine Swiss technology??

    • Yep. Actual made in China - Swiss technology

    • nothing Swiss about it.

      • from their website.

"represented a quantum leap in the art of tool making."

"combined genuine Swiss craftsmanship with American innovation to create a new category of patented consumer products"

well at least you are getting a quantum leap for $7. but how did they calculate it was a quantum leap. with a quantum computer? 🤔

        • So not made in Switzerland, or by Swiss people, or parts from Switzerland?

          Just sounds like marketing codswhollop.

Maybe a mate of a mate's in the factory was originally from Switzerland haha.

          • @G-rig:

Maybe a mate of a mate's in the factory was originally from Switzerland haha.

I was going to say.. maybe the Swiss part is some Swiss person's finger nail clippings inside some empty space, and the tech part is just Innovative American Tech (made in China?).

        • Well a quantum leap is only about 52.89999999 picometers.
          Which is absolutely tiny.

I always wonder why manufacturers make torches black.

It's as though they think "People normally use these when it's dark - let's make it black so they're more likely to lose the sucker and have to buy another one!"

  • DOA, was worth the gamble I suppose

    • Did you put batteries in it?

  • You need a flat screw driver to take the battery holder out. No instructions anywhere. Smart as$.

  • Full price again??
