  • hmm there have been deals around this price with a USB PVR built in. would much rather something with a PVR..

    • "USB for recording to HDD"

That was from the details listed by OP, I could be wrong though

  • Which one is that I'm thinking to one soon..

  • +1

I suggest you guys to do some research before buying a set top box. I tried few models from DickSmith (model DGTEC) which I am totally unhappy. Finally settled with Teac HDB849 at goodguys (as I can remember I paid $99 including 2 years ext warranty). I am really happy with teac. The PVR (USB) function works very nicely without any lagging or freezing the pictures.

Edit: Moral is 'what you pay is what you get' (in PVR world) :)

    • Totally agree. I used to sell a/v stuff in another life (retravision couple of years ago). The really cheap ones were always coming back. Spend some decent cash and get something decent. Topfield has always been a fave of mine. Of course if it's only going into the spare room or something.

  • IMHO the TVIX 2230 is one of the best HD STB's room for a HHD, you can get a wireless dongle for it, plays most things (no fullhd/h264 admittedly which would be nice)

also can copy old tapes to DVD format ready to burn onto DVD. not to mention the pause /rewind live tv etc…
    and its tiny too.

picked mine up for around 100 bux a couple of years ago, new firmware has come out so they still develop for them.

  • Jebus, neither website specify whether it's 1080i or 1080p.

They'd probably slap "FULL HD" all over it if it was.

      • Lenoxx High Definition set top box

1080i, you don't get TV singles in 1080P

          • signals
        • Huh? Nah I mean they'd say full HD rather than just HD if it was 1080i. (which is full HD)

        • *HDD max size up to 1TB
*USB max side up to 12GB

I was thinking more on the playback function, which add another complaint of not having any detail on what format it will support. Unless of course it's only going to play its' own recording format that is.

  • hmmm i wonder if this is better than the Aldi unit

    • the Aldi unit sure got a rough time from the tech buffs on whirlpool.net.au forums.

  • Can anyone tell me, will this be able to record off of other devices? and if so, with HDMI aswell as RCA?

    • no, those are outputs not inputs

  • no1 bought this unit?

    whats TGG's refund policy?

  • The biggest plus for this unit is that it records TV in MPEG (using .ts file extension), meaning it's very easy to copy the recorded shows to the computer - DRM free ;)
