Aussie Scrabble $10 (RRP $29) @ Big W

1030

First time folks, so be gentle. :)
Seems like fairly a great deal for Aussie Scrabble @ $10, as original RRP says $29, even though a quick comparison shows:

Kogan - $39
Myer - $39
Ebay - $33

Could not find the online link, elsewhere would have shared that as well. Anyways any Scrabble would cost around $25, so I believe it is a true bargain.

I once scored 159 points with the word jumbrelephant which, of course, is a mixture of a large elephant and an umbrella.

      • I looked it up on Google. Now I'm embarrassed

A Fair-dinkum twist on the classic word game, Aussie Scrabble seperates the legends from the drongos with new gameplay and a Lingo List of sland, native to the land down under. Gather your mates together and give it a burl!

It's chock-full of deadset new gameplay

      • Explore this sunburnt country and it's colourful characters, history & wildlife!
      • Draw Special Cards when your word crosses a Strewth space!
      • Fair go! Use Aussie folklore, traditions and mythology to outplay those dodgy mates!
      • Add to your score by playing words from out true blue, fair dinkum Aussie Lingo List!

      Source

      • Cringe

    • And "Aussie Scrabble" also includes special gameplay (like Strewth game cards, Aussie lingo list etc.)

      • is VB accepted? or XXXX (yes, i'll use a marker on the I to turn it into a screwed up X, along with 2 blanks)?

All non-white letters are sent off to an island somewhere.

    • Everything ends in 'o'.

      • Or ends in "y" or "ie".

This is Straylia - we speak f#!ing STRINE🇦🇺
      *Strine
      noun
the English language as spoken by Australians

      • +3

Infidel, you must be one of the upper crust strines…. you use unnecessary and complicated syllables like "li" in straylia… down where we come from we just say Straya mate. Struth!

        • +1

Bloody Southerner! Up here we have the time to add vowels we otherwise have no use for😉

Strine is a spoken rather than written language - so no real rules for how it is written. Use varies across Oz.

First time writer of Strine, long time user - please be gentle😂

Kwyjibo: K-W-Y-J-I-B-O. Twenty-two points. Plus, triple-word score, plus fifty points for using all my letters… Game's over, I'm outta here.

As an Australian I find these stereotypes very offensive, and will be creating a Facebook page encouraging everyone to boycott the makers of this monstrosity, as well as Big W, and OzBargain

    • +1

      Ya off ya tree mate.

Pull ya head in before a mongrel does it for ya

    • How can you find anything offensive if your name is "iforgotmysocks"?

      • I can be offended, just like you can be boycotted, pebee47

  • Ripper, Rita!

  • +3

'Get a dog up ya!' is an automatic triple-word score in this version.

    • +2

      I believe it's spelt geddadogupya

  • +3

    There's only the letters C, N, U and T?

    • There's also KFC as well. Oh, and U ;)

    • Hahaha, Oooo…that's harsh!

  • Fair dinkem putting Straya on the map!

  • Aussie scrabble? I guess you get about 30 extra O's. (edit)…..I was a bit late there! This has the makings of a glorious ozbargain post. :)

  • Aussie Scrabble! Where if you can spell the words "(profanity)" "off" "were" "full" in one game, you win!

    • Brilliant!

  • …but is anybody actually going to buy it?

  • There was no clearance tag but it did scan through for $10. Lots of copies still in the Geelong Big W.

  • So this version offers "new gameplay" relative to the regular version of Scrabble. Does anyone know if it's still possible to play a regular game of Scrabble with this set?

    • After opening the box it seems you can just play normal scrabble, same 100 tiles and same board except they've added "strewth" to what was previously blank tiles to add to the "aussie" part.

      tl:dr Yes.

  • I can't wait for the Australian version of Boggle!

  • Thanks mate!

  • Looks like it's a deal specific to a particular store (otherwise it'd be on the website). Which one?

    • +2

It does not seem to be store specific as Big W Geelong has been confirmed along with Watergardens. Basically Big W site sucks and this product is not even listed.

      • +1

Also like I said the Geelong store didn't even have the clearance sticker but it did scan through for $10
