I got a old steel garage door, will this be strong enough to open it? haha….

    • This unit's pretty powerful - For example, it can handle a door 5.5m wide and 3m high.
There's also a lot of old doors from the 60's and 70's that these units now operate, with 0 hassles to date.

        Do you have freckles.

  • +1

Not sure if you can help, but I have a ARA Mark-1 Garage Door, and one of the remotes i have is broken, which remote can replace it?

    • +6

Unfortunately, there's not a lot we can do for this one. The ARA motors look like an imported unit from China that has been rebranded. This means that we won't be able to identify the encryption or frequency that the remote works on.

You could wire in a receiver and remote kit - This would allow you to use a different series of remote controls on the motor without affecting the original remotes at all. The receiver would be $43.96 delivered and the remotes would be $19.96 delivered. 2-core speaker wire is all you would need to wire this in.

Does this make a lot of noise when in operation? current garage has a round motor from the nineties that cold starts every time you try to open it. Our bedroom is right on top and we can hear it everytime it opens / closes.

    • +1

Sounds like an older AC motor! Those things were old, rattly workhorses that jerked the door when starting and stopping. This unit is a newer DC variant. One really cool feature is the soft start/stop, which gets the door rolling and brings it up to speed - then slows it down before stopping completely. You'll actually hear more noise from the door than you will from the AO6v3, it's that quiet.

If you want to kill some of the noise from the door as well, just hit the tracks with some silicon-based lubricant and give them a clean out. Will make a world of difference!

Sounds great! How technical is installation? Any recommended installers in the Wollongong area?

        • +1

Openers are fairly easy to install. Helps to have another set of hands to help out.

        • There's a full installation guide that comes with the motor that takes you through step by step - There's also an in depth guide that covers all safety aspects for a very similar motor on YouTube. Check it out!

  • +2

Could i put a projector screen on this an install in the bedroom? :)

    • It's a garage door opener - Might be a bit obtrusive in the bedroom :)

  • +1

    any smart/wifi options

    • Unfortunately, Auto Openers do not make an official Smartphone Kit. Personally, I've always found it easier to hit the remote on the visor holder vs unlocking my phone and getting the app open to open the garage door.
That having been said, there are a few aftermarket options on eBay from other sellers for Smartphone operation.

      • +1

not just remote access, but more so sensors that say the doors been left up, notifications when used, and proximity sensor with mobile etc.

        • +1

Awesome, once you set up, let me know your address, I will do a drive by :)

        • +1

I wired a Belkin Wemo Maker onto mine. Fairly simple task (if you can find stock of the discontinued Wemo Maker).

        • Gotcha. There's, unfortunately, no such official kit that will do exactly that for this unit.

However, what you can do is wire a set of PE Safety Beams onto the AO6v3. PE beams shoot an infrared beam across the doorway that stop and auto reverse your door if the beams are broken when in operation, or refuse to allow the door to close if they are broken whilst the door is open. If I remember correctly, they're a legal requirement in some countries.

The PE2 beams will allow you to enable an auto-close function, so if you forget to close the door they'll automatically close the door for you. The PE-2 beams will prevent a door/gate from closing when a vehicle is obstructing the door/gateway to prevent damage to your door as well.

Interested in replacing my existing garage door motors. Any ideas about installers or do you have any preferred ones in the Hills Area in Sydney.

    • +1

yeah…im also interested in buying these, i have a single garage door 2m x 1.5m (manual - no rotor or whatsoever) and looking for installation.
i called A1 Automate and they quote me around $250-$300 for installation only in western Sydney Area. anyone knows better deal?

    • +1

Yes, need to know an installer who can replace my old one and put in a new one. I am in west Sydney.

    • +1

One installer I know that does a pretty bang up job is Michael from Automated Garage Door Solutions. He's located in Narrellan Vale - You can contact him on 0439 196 608. Just let him know that national Garage has referred you onto him!

      • OMG, cant recommend enough of the guy, Michael. He is so professional, so quick, arrive on time, A+++ services and on top of that he did not jack up the prices. When he texted me, he said it will cost $180 and it is cost $180 - no hidden fee etc unlike some tradies out there.

        • Great to hear! I'll be sure to pass on your feedback to him :)

Enjoy the new motor - Should keep you out of the rain we're having at the moment.

  • +1

How much costs for installation normally?

    • Installation can vary, depending on your location. Generally, it ranges from $150-200, however, this does come with a fully DIY supported warranty should you choose to install yourself.

  • that's weird i tried to purchase and it said the code can't be applied to your order

    • Bizzare - I've just tested the PERFORM20 code and it appears to be working fine. Please make sure you have selected to pay with PayPal!

  • +1

Hey all… these types of motors are easy to install and setup. Just dont drop the rolla door or lose the tension….
Simplistic description but.. time 30 minutes to an hour.. and 2 people is best… pretty much.. remove manual locking slide bolts/pins, put the locking collar on the opposite end of the spindle then put one or two tie down straps around the rolled up door, undo the u bolt on the end you want the motor to go on, lift the roller door up or outward, and slide the motor onto the rolla door spindle between wall bracket and rolla door, place back onto the bracket, fasten the u bolt back up, make sure its all tight, remove locking collar and tie down straps and then follow instructions to setup the motor start stop points etc and code the remotes.

    • That's a pretty good overview! There's a full installation guide that comes with the motor that I strongly recommend you follow step by step - There's also a in depth guide that covers all safety aspects for a very similar motor on YouTube - Check it out!

How does this compare to the Merlin MT100 Tiltmaster? I Just had one installed for $660… sounds like I got ripped off…

    • +1

Merlin has dropped the warranty periods for all of their motors sold online from 7 years (or their respective full terms) to only 1 year. A few sellers online have been advertising that they self-warrant the openers for the full term, but they're usually the same business' that haven't been around as long as the warranty period they're self-warranting! :)

If you think getting the Merlin for $660 installed with a 7 year warranty is a good gig, then it's not so bad. But we've actually got that unit for $300 delivered with this sale, which you can find here. It's only got that one year warranty, so you might as well install the unit and save $330!

      • +1

Yeah, I actually got the 7 year warranty. Makes me feel a little better, thanks!

      • It does make me wonder how the Australian Consumer Law comes into play with this?

I picked up the MT100EVO for an old double-width tilt door in a previous 20% sale and finally got it installed a couple of weeks ago. The previous motor (was a B&D) died last year - I just found the receipt and it was installed in 1995! So I hope to get at least 10 years out of this Merlin motor …

  • Is there an option for a battery backup in case of a power outage with no internal access to the house?

    • There sure is, it's a simple plugin installation as well. You can find the battery backup here for $88 delivered.

  • If i get two of these, is it possible to code both on the same key fob? (one button each)

    • +1

As the remotes have four buttons, you can actually code up to four openers onto the one remote control!

      • Perfect.
        Thanks for replying.
Also how deep does the unit stick out from where it connects to the roller door?
Ill have to measure up if i can fit them back to back

        • +1

The units require a minimum of 45mm of sideroom - So if you have a gap of 90mm between the roller dors you could install two back to back, but that'd be a really tight fit. Here's an excerpt from the installation guide that hopefully explains a little more.

        • @GrecDeFreckle:

          Thanks again,
Will measure up at home before i put in an order.
but 45mm is tiny so im sure ill be fine

        • @thorpef1:

To be honest, I've only ever seen a handful of installations that did not have enough room for this unit. However, if you get stuck, just let me know!

  • I was in the market to install a new garage door (just built a new car port)… so apart from the quotes that i got do put in the fittings like tracks and stuff the 2 different motors suggested is:

1 qty Merlin Tiltmaster belt drive motor kit
    2 key chain remotes
    1 wireless wall button
    7 year Merlin manufacturer warranty

    And other being:
1 Avanti Euro-Lift STANDARD Belt Drive Rail 3050mm
    1 Avanti Euro-Lift T8MPS Sectional Opener

How does these stack up against yours.

    • Your quotes aren't for roller door motors.

      • ohh so whats Merlin / Avanti then ? i thought they are motors that drive up and down the garage doors ;-)

        • +1

Your quote is for sectional openers - the door slides up across the roof of your garage. This offer is for a roller opener - door rolls up above the door frame.

        • @dcs29:

That makes sense now !! apologies. Had no clue on this. Thanks for the clarification.

    • The motors you've listed are all sectional / tilt door openers - This would be the best bet for a carport, as roller door motors will be exposed to the weather without an alcove (which is just a bit of steel welded to the side to shield it from the rain)

I've mentioned before that Merlin has dropped the warranty periods for all of their motors sold online from 7 years (or their respective full terms) to only 1 year. There are a lot of sellers online claiming to self-warrant the MT100EVO's that they sell, but a lot of their business' haven't even been around for 7 years. In contrast, we've been selling garage door operators on eBay for over 11 years and only offer the manufacturer warranty of 1 year.

The flip side is that you can self-install the motor and save some significant cash compared to having it installed for you, as we're selling it for $300 delivered during this sale. You can find that here.

Another option is the ATA GDO9v2 unit - It has a 1200N drive (making it stronger than the MT100EVO), 2 keyring remote controls and a wall button. It also has more accessories available, such as a battery backup & solar operation which the MT100EVO does not.

  • I bought a Chamberlain opener from Bunnings a few months ago for my roller door. unfortunately, it is still lying on the ground in my garage due to the roller door is too heavy for me to move and install the opener : (. So if you wanna do it by yourself, better ask for more hands.

    • Hey Louis, you can (should) jack up the door using a prop. Check out this video showing how you can solo install the garage motor using a prop under the door safely.

      • Thanks mate!

  • Whats the decibel rating on it?

I have a Gliderol at the moment, and it's noisy as anything

    • I'll be honest - I actually can't find a Db rating for it offhand. However! Compared to another unit that DOES have a rating of 57DB, it's almost indistinguishable in terms of which unit is quieter.Compared to nearly any motor made before 2010 however, it's NOTICEABLY quieter. I mentioned the below in an above comment:

This unit is a newer DC variant. One really cool feature is the soft start/stop, which gets the door rolling and brings it up to speed - then slows it down before stopping completely. You'll actually hear more noise from the door than you will from the AO6v3, it's that quiet.

If you want to kill some of the noise from the door as well, just hit the tracks with some silicon-based lubricant and give them a clean out. Will make a world of difference!

  • Thanks! Just grabbed 1 :)

Brilliant! If you have any questions about the delivery or the installation just contact the team. We'll have a tracking number uploaded this afternoon for you in the meantime :)

  • Looks the goods, when does the sale finish?

    • Hey mate, the sale ends on the 6th of August at midnight.

  • +2

+1 for an extremely helpful rep!

    • I certainly try Gaz, thanks for the awesome feedback!

  • I just grab one of this. i need an electrician to install power point near my garage door for this item, is there any recommendation please?
    thank you.

    • Hi Rafael, unfortunately, I don't have any sparkies I can recommend as I normally deal with garage door installers. Check out Google reviews on the tradespersons in your local area - should give you a good indication of who to avoid and who to engage.

  • +1

my order arrived today, will try set it up tomorrow and report back

    • Look forward to hearing how you go!

  • This might convince me to retire my vintage BnD '70s motor.
I wonder if there's a market for buyers interested in these working models?

    • +1

      Almost nobody :(

For a while there I was hunting down specific remote from the 70's and 80's so I could get photos of them, but the motors themselves are so loud compared to the replacement units unless you found someone else with a similar unit, you'd be hard pressed to find a buyer.

  • Hi, just watched the video. How hard is it to replace an existing roller door motor? Do you still have to jack up the door?

    • It's about as hard as that video. As long as you follow those steps it's pretty straightforward.

I would highly recommend that you jack the door up as per the ATA video, rather than put the strain on yourself when lifting the door (As per the bunnings video). It's safer for the door and gets the job done without causing you any lasting injuries or harm.
