Add the coupon to the deal son

      done, momma

  • I'm thinking this would be the recommended drive to add to a synology ds918+?

Edit: Oh, you need TWO drives to enable write cache. One drive only gives read cache. So frankly I'd be better off with 2x64gb even!

Do you have 10GBit/s network in your house? If you are still running 1GBit/s, even the cheapest SSD can saturate it.

NVME drive would be better off in your PC, for most scenarios.

      • Yeah seriously, adding one of the very fastest SSD's on the planet to your NAS is overkill. Look out for those cheap ADATA deals instead and save hundreds.

        • This would depend on the NAS and what you are writing of course…
Remember small files are very different and hard to even write at full speed to an SSD on 1Gb network.
That said, i have one of these in my high-end QNAP for read/write cache and its amazing. Ive got a RAID 5 SSD tier in front of my RAID5 HDD tier also.
But yes i do have 10Gb and i still struggle to max out the network :(

Yeah it's about caching though. If I want to have a write cache (let's say security camera recording + lots of torrents) to prevent hard drive thrashing

Hence I said 2x64gb would be enough.. but I think two nvme drives might still be worth having..

The 128GB Intel 760p for $76each seems sensible. Not sure how fast they are.

        • Sorry I didn't see your 2x64gb mention. For a second I was thinking you wanted 2x512gb :)

Sounds like you're on the right track. I'd be keen to hear how it goes as I own 2 Synology NAS's myself.

  • I've lost track of SSD deals. Is this the cheapest ever for 970 Pro?

    • +1

Almost every deal has product tagged in it. click on that and you can see previous deals about that product and the prices.

    • I remember seeing cheaper earlier this week. 1TB Pro or 2 512s for about $530.

      • Link for 512gb? I can't find any. Unless you are talking about 960?

        • -1

I can't remember. It was with JW Computers though.

My notes are saying $563 for the 1TB now, maybe I am remembering wrong. $563 is same as this price.

        • @StoneSin:

Haha you got down voted for memory loss. Tough crowd (wasn't me).

        • +2

          @Click_It: It's ok. I won't remember them either.

    • Do you know it’s easy to post link
Searching it also shows the $227 is US price, plus shipping is extra.

    • That's USD :p

  • Great price, hoping the 2TB can be had for this price range soon :) I paid $400 for the 950 Pro 512GB back in 2016.

Not going to bite yet. Surely a cashback eligible seller will have a 20% ebay sale in the next month?

    • Yeah, these are flying off the shelves for some reason. There's been a serious SSD drop in the last 2 months, like 30-40%! lol

    • "Cashback eligible"? Could you take pity and tell me the secrets of your bargaining ways? (are some store not eligible for cashrewards etc?)

      • Cashback in this case applies to the samsung cashback offer for all NVME drives at selected retailers.

Forgive my ignorance here, but where would you see a discernible difference between these m2 drives and SSDs?

Does it really matter in day to day usage?

I'd be interested if it loads Windows in 2 seconds though lol

I upgraded from a (relatively old) Crucial BX100 SATA drive to a WD Black PCIE SSD (2017 variant). Boot time actually improved on my Ryzen 5 system maybe around 50%.

But outside of that, I only use my rig for 3 things

      1. video encoding in handbrake
      2. Web browser
      3. Gaming

and all of these aren't very disk intensive, so the overall impact on my usage.. isn't at all significant

Might be useful if I ever try my hand at video editing.

Its actually quite complicated and is like saying, "does this truck suit my transport needs", without knowing them of course…

This is the best Flash based SSD on the market, full stop.
It will help with some things, things that arent bottlenecked by your storage though? Obviously not.

  • Can anyone recommend an SSD for the spare slot in my 13" Xiaomi Mi Air laptop? Peripheral information may as well be written in Chinese for me..

    • This one i believe.
As long as it does PCIe/NVME SSD with a size of 2280 you are best off with this one over any other on the market.
