Gigabyte Radeon RX Vega 56 Gaming OC 8GB $639 (Was $699) @ PC Case Gear

80

Is Crypto mining era finally over? I think its just about there! The last time I saw Vega56 this low was just over a year ago when I ordered mine from PLE for $559 Ozbargain keeping in mind HIS brand has 2 Year Warranty rather then the 3 Year Warranty with Gigabyte.

If memory serves me right these were $599 before the crypto mining boom

Good to see Nvidia deals recently and AMD prices are dropping!

P.S Dont forget that you can also redeem FarCry5 for free with an Eligible AMD Radeon Vega card which Gigabyte qualifies for, although unsure if MSI qualifies.
After Cash Rewards $628.76
Happy Gaming!

  • Personally would prefer Gigabyte over MSI because its not a reference card

    • But Gigabyte RX Vega cards are actually worse than reference design.

Personally would of went with the 1080's last week, around $600, the 1080s are better than the vega 56, not to mention efficiency and g sync for those who have the technology

    • Absolutely! I was also bearing in mind those who have FreeSync monitors already and not having to a premium for a G-Sync. I must admit I wasnt sure if this was worth posting or not.

      • I've got a vega 64, freesync is the reason to buy an AMD card right now.

Compare an $1100 X34 to that very similar kogan 34" freesync monitor at $589, that can easily make up the difference between a 1050 and a vega 64.

        • Which brand is the Vega? Gigabyte?

Why not compare the same panel except with Freesync …

          @Diji1:

Because then the comparison would be fair, not grossly over-exaggerated.

    • Imao, got negged for stating facts, never said the vega 56 is a bad card, just saying that the 1080 was a much better buy at 600 delivered to your door, this deal is only for those who have pc case gear near them or a willing to pay their ridiculous shipping prices

      • Totally right, it was a good deal but its unfortunately unavailable now. Hopefully we see more of those deals, i love competition! Also MSY has an alternative with MSI branding so there is at least options :)

Seems a few people are having issues with these cards. Not sure if overblown or not

The cooler used by Gigabyte is nowhere near good enough to cool this card, so I'd skip it.

It's close to the useless crap they also used on their RX580 which overheated, and spinning fans up high in an attempt to cool the GPU.

    • Because they basically recycle the same one they had on GTX 1070 (150W TDP) on 180W TDP (RX 580). And the two Vega are even higher. Same reason if you can choose between Aorus GTX 1080 Ti and Gigabyte GTX 1080 Ti Gaming OC, you go for the Aorus. The Gaming OC can not handle that much TDP.

Which is rather strange, as I have the GTX 1080 G1, which actually has more heatpipe and more heatsink fins than the RX 580 Gaming, while both cards are same TDP (180W). The Aorus RX 580 basically has the same cooler as the GTX 1080 G1, so it works fine (no overheat).

      • Yeah, I don't get it either. They had the perfect cooler design but they decided to go with form over function.

I've owned 6 RX580 cards (Sapphire, Asus ROG Top, MSI X, Powercolor, etc.) and the Gigabyte was by far the hottest / noisiest of the lot by a large margin.

A friend made a mistake buying this and ended up returning w/ restock fee hit, due to the noise/heat factor.

    • Hmmm, interesting.

I had a Gigabyte GTX 1070 that had a bad fan setting which was fixed by driver or firmware update, cannot recall which.

After that it overclocked better than an EVGA 1070 I got to replace it … unsure if related.

  • Does this mean all Gigabyte products from AMD and Nvidia are terrible products?

    • +1

Not exactly, most of the NVIDIA ones are fine. The only thing I can think of that overheats on NVIDIA side is the GTX 1080 Ti Gaming OC (non Aorus brand). On AMD side the Aorus are decent, but there are no Aorus RX Vega.

      • Gotcha! good to know, i kinda regret posting this now. I didnt realise gigabyte was terrible, have you heard anything about the msi one thats on this post?

        • It's basically a reference design with worse material than reference design (AMD tends to over engineer the reference design). It's probably just as bad.

Also a quick look at Tomshardware review shows the Gigabyte RX 64 actually is better than Gigabyte RX 56 while having the same design. So I reckon it could also be something like Gigabyte skipping material quality.

        • @Bigboomboom: Thats a real shame, I'm pretty happy with my reference HIS card since I've purchased. It was a good price at the time. Should I remove this post in your honest opinion?

        • @OWKnowitall1: Not really, if people don't mind upping the fans and undervolting they could turn out quite decent.

      • No, I've owned the Aorus RX580 and it was hot & noisy due to the insufficient cooling design.

The Gigabyte Nvidia family isn't affected as they use the much larger cooling solution.

        • Well Gigabyte basically hates AMD, their Ryzen 1 mobos are bad while Intel mobos are good. They did turn around and make some solid Ryzen+ Mobos though (X470).

Also I reckon you have a different Aorus than the one reviewed. Gigabyte is well known to revise same model with cheaper material for $$. Which is funny, if you happen to get the first batch of a model, you tend to get the better ones than later ones.

Things to avoid from Gigabytes: AMD RX cards and Ryzen 1 mobos (X370, B350 etc.). The X470 and B450 reviews are solid.
