Thanks - pretty good deal - tempted
But waiting for an upcoming deal for HTC Legend or Area

  • Hmmm, tempting …

  • How are these compared to the LG Optimus 1?

    • Optimus 1 got better display

I would prefer IDEOS over Wildfire
Both got almost same spec (just google it) but HTC got advantage of HTC Sense
But IDEOS is almost half price

      • Better display is a big plus. I do find 320x240 not ideal for Android. IDEOS has wireless N (probably wireless N 150 - though honestly, with the speed of the phone, I don't think you need wireless N). IDEOS does come with Android 2.2. Value for money, it is hard to beat IDEOS.

However, a lot of people are waiting for HTC Legend to come down in price. A bigger screen (better res) does help. That said, to really enjoy Android, you need HTC Desire or better.

Optimus One has better specs - slightly better CPU and also a higher resolution screen (which means it will run more market apps)

The downside is that the Optimus One only has a 3.2mpx camera, while the Wildfire has 5mpx.

If you can still get your hands on a Garmin A50, that is an even better deal ($199 and is unlocked) since that is both 600mhz and has a 320x480 res screen, not to mention that it comes with a car dock and charger.

      • Yes, Garmin A50 is a much better choice. I have one :-)

        • The garmin A050 can be had for a better deal (if you can get one) but optimus one craps all over it.

      • does the optimus one have multi-touch?

any places where the Garmin A50 is still available?

  • Also waiting for an upcoming deal for HTC Legend … come on dealers … buyers are waiting!!!!

    • What would you consider a good deal for the Legend?

      • Since you can buy them brand new off ebay for around $350-370 i would say a good price would be as close to $300 as you could get it :D

        • how about $259? :D

      • I think $299 shipped?

  • I am getting billed for delivery when trying to order…almost $20….?

    • Maybe you are trying to add other items to cart?

i was adding a mem card…eh not possible to just slide it into the box? they're so tiny :-(

    • they have to pay someone to put/slide the mem card into the box. :)

  • looks like a good deal, but Optus network users beware, this phone doesn't do 900MHz so your coverage will be limited to where 2100 is available.

    • gsmarena lists this as having both 900/2100 3G coverage, but uniquemobiles say otherwise. Could someone confirm one way or the other?

    • fact sheet? from my research this phone does 900MHz as well.

      • Our Version supports 850/2100

  • Will this phone work on the 3 network?

    • +1

it is unlocked. will work on any carrier

      • I was more referring to the coverage - I know it needs to be a 3G phone, but one of the staff mentioned something about the bands as well. I think it needs to be 2100 MHz, which uniquemobiles says above the phone works on.

    @UniqueMobiles

Please edit your listing to inform buyers that the seal has been broken (and hence turned on and used) to unlock the phone.

I for one would rather be the first person to break the seal, open the phone and unlock it by myself (very simple process - just enter the numbers on the phone) rather than a Retailer do it for me :/ - just ruins the fun of buying something new as that special feeling when you open something new is sort of lost…

(I will remove my neg until this is done)

    • wow..an opened product? is it refurb item?

    • Is this confirmed for all your stock? Mine has just been shipped so interested to see if this is the same.

    • wow that sux

    • Hi

Yes product is required to be unlocked prior to dispatch though stock is 100% Brand New and comes with Tax Invoice which gives you 12 Months Manufacture warranty from date of purchase.

We are more than happy to provide the product sealed and the unlock code to you if you make this request however you must understand that a large % of our customers are not able to complete this step alone and would prefer that our Technicians look after this. Our customers trust that we are supplying new products as advertised based on 9 Years of feedback from the Australian Public.

Please advise if you would like your item sent sealed with the unlock code provided. Hope this clarifies the situation for everyone

      • Are you still planning on doing a good deal for the HTC Legend?

  • Received the product and the product was opened but unlocked. There's Telstra branding and firmware on the phone though. Thanks.

    • Received the product and the product was opened but unlocked

it would be opened for unlocking won't it, as i doubt it's 'used'

      • That's what I meant. Only merely confirming that the phone was opened to unlock it from Telstra.

  • Bought one of these as a present only a few weeks ago.

You can root it here… not quite the same fun as real life, which gives you the freedom to remove the Telstra firmware.

Then you can choose a Android 2.2.1 (better than the current 2.1) ROM from here. I installed the WildPuzzle ROM and now the only thing software that is Telstra is the start-up screen.

    • Is there any benefits to rooting a HTC phone? I'm about to attempt to try it in order to rid the Telstra junk on the phone but I'm not sure if I should make the jump or not.

      • benefits to rooting a HTC phone?

There will be less software bloat — meaning your phone will run a little leaner and faster (though not by much). Also you can remove any previously un-removable applications that aren't useful to you.

I rooted my Garmin A50 and removed about 3 or 4 background apps, and also removed the Optus start-up logo by deleting one of it's startup images.

        • As scrimshaw said, less bloat, and usually includes a few tweaks. It also gives you the freedom to upgrade or change the android software anytime you want, so you can try a few and pick the one you like.

It's really quite easy to do, and by following the guide you will have a backup of the original ROM, should anything go wrong you can always restore it to the Telstra default.

  • rooted and working beautifully…was small problem with flashing wildpuzzle but then flashed the standard kernel and working beautifully:
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761927

(just in case anyone else has this problem: symptoms were phone stuck on boot (telstra) screen at first load after flashing…fix was flash wildpuzzle, then go to restore and flash kernel, then reboot and voila! no more telstra junk and everything works and is leaner)

  • Do you guys mind helping a virgin 'rooter'?

I've managed to follow as posted in order to root the with unrevoked and flashed it with a few ROMs already but I did run into some trouble when re-booting into recovery mode. Further to this, I can't manage to attain 'S-OFF' mode even after running unrevoked?! I tried applying it again on top of it but that didn't seem to work and I also ran into problems.

    Any ideas please? Thanks!
