[NSW, VIC, QLD, ACT] 3 Meals (6 Serves) for $19.95 Delivered ($3.33/serve) @ Dinnerly (Marley Spoon)

190
FB_28_230493s

I got served an ad for Dinnerly which appears to be Marley Spoon but with different branding. The site may show you $39 for the 2 person, 3 recipe box. When you go to the checkout, it will reduce the price to $19.95. Screenshot. Pricepal is offering $13.50 cashback but this coupon is not listed so don't think it will work but may as well give it a shot.

Menu is the usual stuff you get from these food box services.

Cancellation:

How do I cancel my subscription?
You can easily do so in your account area under "My settings", but we'll be sad to see you go. Please note that you will have to cancel your subscription 6 days before your next delivery (for NSW and ACT orders) and 7 days before your next delivery (for Victoria, Adelaide and Queensland orders) due to production timelines.

You can also pay with Paypal where you can cancel auto-subscriptions automatically if you're worried.

Other Delivery Services for comparison:

  • Last Youfoodz deal clocked in at $6.13 per meal but have been around $6 for most of the deals. New & Existing Users.
  • Hellofresh latest deal offers 6 meals for $41.97 however Cashrewards offers $35 back so ($1.17 per meal) is a great deal for new users. Nothing for existing.
  • Marley Spoon is offering $15 off your first box so $54.90 and then a further $14 cashback so $40. $6.66 per meal. Update: Just got served an ad on OzBargain: $35 off your first box. Offer for $34.90 for 6 meals or $5.81. Coupon is WAAECVNMXCD.

Next ad: Everyone on Ozbargain is going crazy for Marley Spoon!

  • Pretty cheap, what's the food like?

  • $3.33 per meal is great. Worth a punt even if it's not particularly great

Got a box, thanks Neil! It's great that these companies all offer Paypal, perfect to stop any pre-approved payments.

    • Still a good idea to cancel Hellofresh will send you your next delivery even if they can't take the money, then try to get you to pay. Not sure about the others.

    • So its not showing up under my preapproved payments, any ideas?

      • Ahh yes you're right actually.. that's really weird as when I signed up they told me it was a recurring payment. We must have to just cancel through the company after the first delivery.

        • Paypal even emailled me:

          Hello theguyrules,

You've signed up for preapproved payments plan to Dinnerly with PayPal.

To view the details, log in on the PayPal homepage, go to your Profile, and click Preapproved Payments. Then find the Details page for >Dinnerly:PA-xxxxxx.

          Thanks,
          PayPal

          But their instructions dont work.

          Weird.

  • Showing up as $19.95 without the discount now

    • The URL should have the coupon code embedded so don't need to enter the coupon. But just in case..

  • So is this recipy box not pre cooked meal like Youfoodz?

    • I believe it's just the ingredients and the recipe like HelloFresh, Marley Spoon etc.

appears to be Marley Spoon but with different branding

Makes sense, Marley Spoon is the stupidest branding since House of Marley "fashion" headphones.

  • With HelloFresh how do you know what you get in the box before ordering? I am curious for Vege box what veges/ fruit are included?

    • You can see the menu for the week.

    • Be careful with Hello fresh ordering. We were stung an extra $12 last week with our 3 meal box because apparently we selected a 'gourmet' meal.. even though it was not made to known to us there would be additional charges.. dodgy..

wasnt that impressed with Marley Spoon when I tried it last year

    • Same here.

In my case, I had received a number of "fresh" ingredients which were rotting or mouldy. This spanned a few orders, too.

Marley Spoon were quick to provide a credit but that's of little consolation when you then need to drive to the supermarket to buy one crucial item.

  • Do these meals require actual cooking?
The way it's worded it doesn't sound like heat and eat like youfoodz

    • Yes. You get the ingredients and recipes and you have to cook them. Same as you would with HelloFresh and Marley Spoon.

      • Then what is the point of ordering?

        • Not having to leave the house (assuming you work from home or something).
Had a neighbour do this cause she was weird, studied online and only ever left the house to see the dr.

  • Just tried Cashback and the price jumped as all it did was go back to the standard price less shipping.

    • Need to add code FB_28_230493s as coupon.

      • Yes I realise that. I was just letting people know what would happen even without adding or changing codes, just using the Cashback referral link

  • Alright, giving it a go!
    Paypal goes to Marley Spoon.
Recipes seem very basic compared to HelloFresh.

Looks like a starter's cook set. Also chinese takeaway…

  • Just to clarify. So the discounted rate only applies for the first delivery, right?

    • Yep.

I just received my box today. Having tried YouFoodz and HelloFresh (I'd say their direct competitor), This has to be the worst value for money home delivery service around.

It's not "6 meals for $3.33". For the $20 promotion, which is normally $40, they gave me:

    • 1 x Can of John West Tuna (And that's meant to serve two people)
    • 1 x 250G of Minced Meat (Alot of fat content)
    • 1 x 350G of Chicken Thighs

Exactly what demographic are they trying to cater to here? Those aforementioned portions are what I would eat in two sittings, with the tuna as a snack on the side.

I am livid. This is not a reflection on neil whatsoever, on paper it looks great in comparison to other companies, but this deal is absolutely atrocious value.

    • Interesting. I guess it's the cheapskates Marley Spoon.

Was there a recipe and veggies as well?

      • They justify not including a recipe by saying that their service is no-nonsense and no-frills, so recipe cards are required to be downloaded online, I take no issue with that.

What I have an issue with is how they expect the average consumer to split a can of tuna (185g) between two people, and I'd also like them to clarify how per serving they come up with 32.9g of protein in their nutrition facts, when per serving their can of tuna is only half of that.

The images are pretty rough, but I'd encourage readers to please look at the photos and make a judgement for yourself. Compare the thigh fillets that HelloFresh packed for me recently in contrast to the ones Dinnerly delivered.

        • The nutrition values don't add up here either.

Tofu Stir-fry claims 615 cal, individually calculating the ingredients it's a good 114 calories short!

        • Cooked the One-Pot Braised Chicken with Risoni tonight.

The calories went the other way, they claimed 840 cals and it's at approx 900-920 cals. I simply turned it into 3x ~600 cal serves instead of eating that much food/carbs.

          Did cashback work for anyone?

I completely agree, this is absolutely horrific, and then they just charged me on day one of the cycle for the next delivery, Paypal chargeback is definitely incoming if they don't agree to cancel!!

What I got was seriously something you could get for $15 in the supermarkets, and they charge $49.95 for it usually, what a joke.

Thanks for posting neil, but definitely sticking well away from Marley Spoon in the future.

Update: Sent them an email to cancel this weeks delivery and get refunded and they promptly sent the refund at 9:06am, pretty good on a sunday.

      • Are the other services (Hello Fresh, Marley Spoon itself) any better in terms of value though? I'm doubtful. At least this seems reasonable at the $19.95 price (no way at the full price).

(Calculated the ingredients in the Youfoodz "Chicken Pot Pie" as 90 cents).

Haven't calculated the supermarket cost of what they've sent yet, but have issues with the claimed nutrition data they're providing (see above).

        • At the $19.95 price, the other services probably aren't better value. At full price, this is seriously a rip-off! I didn't do a full calculation, but I'd assume that what I received is in the vicinity of $15-$20 worth of food from the supermarket, so you're essentially paying $30 ish for the recipe and delivery..

I'm happy they cancelled and refunded the second box, it's definitely not worth it at full price, even for the people who want to use these services. Youfoodz would be much better value I reckon.

That's scary about the nutritional data claims that seem to be incorrect..

  • So if you don't cancel the second delivery (or skip a few then pay full price for another) -

You can send three "free" boxes to friends! (They have to pay $8.95 for delivery).

This happens every-time you receive a box (but maybe only one referral).
