Which one better coles or ww

I prefer Coles' dry roasted and unsalted nuts. However, I put them in the oven for 15 minutes for extra crunch. They're my favourite!

      • +1

        Nice tips, gonna try rn.

      • +1

You got the right temperature fi shelter you from the crunch?

        • +4

          165°

I just roasted some yesterday. Spread them well over baking paper, don't leave them long, and use the vent, not the grill; they burn easily.

          • @wisdomtooth: Sometimes my nuts get stale if I haven't paid them attention for a while. I'll try this next time and see if they can improve their crunchiness

@shmahoo: Are we still taking about cashew nuts? 😄

              • +1

@wisdomtooth: 🤣 if those nuts (mind reading) no need for an oven. Just step outside in this scorching heat, take a 10-minute walk, and they’ll be perfectly roasted! 😁

          • +1

@wisdomtooth: Agree! Another way I do it is in a frypan, just add two tablespoons of coconut oil on medium heat. Once it’s ready, toss in the cashews and fry until golden brown. Take them out and rest them on a paper towel, then fry some curry leaves and a couple of garlic cloves. Gently mix everything (don’t be too rough!), then top with chicken salt and chilli flakes to taste.

Pair this with a couple of beers while watching cricket or footy, and you’ll be blown away! This is my Sri Lankan-style cashew snack. Let me know if you give it a try and what you think!

            • @TechVisar: Was with you till…

              chicken salt

What even is chicken salt?? I'll give it a try with actual salt, thanks.

              • @wisdomtooth: Actual salt is definitely a great choice! I just mentioned chicken salt because some people like the extra flavour, it’s the one they use on hot chips.

                • +1

                  @TechVisar: IKR…

Chicken salt is a blend of different seasonings and spices. The ingredients can vary depending on the brand. For example, Viceroy Chicken Salt contains salt 75%, chicken flavor 10%, paprika, onion, food acid (citric), garlic, rice flour, pepper, and celery seed [4]. Another brand, Atomic Chicken Salt by Stagg and Co, includes salt, sugar, flavor enhancer 621, rice cereal, and anti-caking agent 551.

Chicken flavor can be created using a blend of ingredients, one example of which includes a mixture where each ingredient makes up 10% of the total composition. This mixture consists of monosodium glutamate, dextrose, sodium chloride (NaCl), l-cysteine hydrochloride, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, flour, vegetable oil, ribonucleotides, methyl arachidonate, and spices.

@TechVisar: Maybe this is a healthy alternative:

Australian Sea Salt, Onion, Paprika, Garlic, Sumac, Celery, Mustard flour. May contain trace amounts of nuts. FREE from Gluten, MSG, GMO, preservatives, dairy, soy, fillers, anti-caking agent, and additives.

          • @wisdomtooth: 165 x 15mins? Sounds like it would burn no?

            • @RickyPoontang: Every individual oven is different, may be try small amount for testing then you know. Also keep in eye checking regularly

              • +1

@TechVisar: Stay nearby and turn it off at the 1st whiff of roasted cashews. If they're still pale, just leave them in turned off. Works for me.

I learned this heating trick from Air Srilanka when I traveled with them.

Nuts taste much better when slightly warm.

      • What temperature you use?
I use microwave for 1 min + 1 min high. Anything more than that it burnt the nuts.

        • I had to experiment temperatures based on different types of cashews. Usually its 30-45 seconds microwave or 1 minute air fryer. Again, had to experiment.

Also, gently spraying with some water using coffee water spray thingy helps as well.

Btw, Aldi cashews are way better then Coles/Woolies.

      • @techvisar when you say put in oven is that small quantity before you eat or you do the lot and put them in jar?

        • +2

I usually put them all and put them into the air tight jar (make sure the cashews are cooled down). However, cashews are really taste nice when slight warm, crisp and tender.

When fry make them small amount

Distant second on the salted variety

They were a lot better I thought,
but like everything in Australia now the quality seems to have slowly been degraded to a point that the only time I get to eat really nice produce is from the city stores and even then it’s only by contrast.

Ooo ooo can I be the needlessly pedantic one this thread?!

These are cashews, so they're not nuts. They're drupes (fruit+seed).

    • next you'll be telling us bananas are herbs, not fruits

      • +2

They're not herbs, they're berries! (Also they're herbs)

    • Fun guy at the party lmao

Hey, my LAN parties go off!

      • The koala is not a bear, an avocado is not a pear, the cashew is not a nut; these are all great conversation starters at my parties.

  • Nibble Nobby’s nuts. Bery nadicious.

  • Time to go nuts. Thanks OP

  • No MSG included?

    • No, but plenty of salt

      • Dry roast has minimum possible salt.

    • No MSG included?

No. I'm allergic to MSG and these cashews don't affect me.

    Deez nuts
