    Would be a good deal if the phone was free but for $379 I doubt there will be to much interest in it

    Great deal, Oppo have been building fantastic hardware the last year and a bit.

    The only problem is their poor software support , lack of updates (and security updates) and very poor after sales service.
    Whirlpool is littered with bad experiences with Oppo devices, so i encourage anyone considering this deal to do your research before committing.

      I had Oppo and I affirm that. Do your own research on previous models and what users says about support. Hardware wise Oppo is very good but software… be cautious.

      You can download Android P (9.0) Beta from Google on the phone tho;

      https://www.androidauthority.com/oppo-r15-pro-android-p-beta…

      • This is excellent news! You could get Oppo's nice hardware and avoid their terrible software!
        Is it likely to continue to actual release though, or would you be a perpetual beta tester?

        • Probably not, you just get this software till the end of beta;

      • Great option, but how long will support for the beta last for? This phone isn't part of the Android One program.

        However, this does solve one of the two big problems going with Oppo, which is a plus.

        • Beta will probably end near the end of July; - it started in May 9th.

    • Define "FANTASTIC"?!

      most big name China-droids with good specs are same, probably made by same Foxcon plant…
      I've used Xiaomi, One+(oppo's other brand), Motor(Lenovo's other brand), Vivo, and Nokia(bought by one of the Foxcon's Director)…

      only difference is the price. I'm unwilling to pay more for same specs.

      • Fantastic = Great build quality and finishing.

        You are right, a lot of the other China droids are built in the same factory. However they follow different processes and have different components (lower binning than other brands).

        A good example of this is a Xiaomi phone i bought last year, the phones aluminum rear didn't match up with the glass body. The glass wasn't cleanly cut and was slightly rough on the bottom edge. The sticker on the back of the phone was applied upside down and there were fingerprints between the glass and screen protector applied. For a $200 phone i didn't expect anything better than that. But this example highlights difference in quality control.

        • dont buy from shaddy sellers, same thing would happen to all china-droid. someone even sell second-hand ones, new phone should not have screen protector.

          I've got Redmi Note 4X for well below $200, Mi6, Mix 2, all fantastic…

          My only complaint is Nokia, not worth the price. Android One is overated…

        • @alexGoodwin: Screen protector as in the original one applied at factory level during manufacture. I actually have quite a large fleet of Xiaomi phones that i manage (over 200), so i've seen a huge variance in quality of all different models.

      • This is incorrect. Oppo (who makes phones) are a separate company from Oppo Digital, which is shutting down.
        https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2018/4/3/17191912/hi…

        • Oppo Digital is a subsidiary company of Oppo. They make all parts in the same factory in China as Oppo and are shipped to the USA and Europe. Don't be so naive to believe that it's a completely separate entity.

      • Ah, may you show a price cheaper?

        • EBay has it at $745 for the R15 Pro with the Penny5 discount. From a 100% feedback power seller in Australia.

      • “All other AV products” consisted only of Bluray players, headphones and amplifiers. I’m not surprised they elected to withdraw from those markets.

        Oppo is owned by BBK Electronics, who are they second largest smartphone seller in the world, behind only Samsung. Do you really think they’re going anywhere any time soon?

        • Only in China do they make any sales! Which makes them in mass and gets other dealers to buy them which many companies are subsidiaries of Oppo… So sales look better. But I guess you didn't research that part.

    Would be great if they bring back the $0 Google Pixel 2/XL deal on the $59/month plan.

    • That was a Ripper of a deal. I managed to get one around Dec. They also offered the Samsung S8 on the same deal.

      Edit: Telstra also threw in for free Usb-C earphones and a Google home mini.

    • Google pixel 2 xl is actually available now too for $69 a month. Not as great as the previous deal, but in case you're interested

  • Question. Does this have Band 28? GSM Arena says it doesn't, yet it's sold locally here, and on the Telstra network.

    • 4G Bands:TD-LTE 2600(band 38) / 2300(band 40) / 2500(band 41) / 1900(band 39) FD-LTE 2100(band 1) / 1800(band 3) / 2600(band 7) / 900(band 8) /

      Oppo 15 doesn't:
      4G Bands:TD-LTE 2600(band 38) / 2300(band 40) / 2500(band 41) / 2100(band 34) / 1900(band 39) FD-LTE 2100(band 1) / 1800(band 3) / 2600(band 7) / 900(band 8) / 1700(band 4) / 850(band 5)3G Bands: UMTS 1900 / 2100 / 850 / 900 MHz2G Bands: GSM 1800 / 1900 / 850 / 900 MHz GPRS:Available EDGE:Available

      • Yup. I'm inclined to believe that since it's sold locally. Where did you get that from?

        This is what gsmarena tells me…

        LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 17(700), 34(2000), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500)

        • You're right;

          just checked this site: https://www.kimovil.com/en/frequency-checker/AU/oppo-r15-dre…

          It doesn't have B28, sorry.

        • @Snacky: That's really interesting. I doubt they'd make a model just for Australia. I'm probably like most people thinking it has band 28 just because it's sold here.

          Also, thanks for the site. Quite informative.

        • @flaminglemon:
          Oppo have been selling Band 28 devices here for years. I'd be VERY surprised if this has changed for their newest flagship.

          Edit: as below, someone has linked to the Oppo Australia Specs page which confirms it does have Band 28 as expected.

    • Just remember GSMArena doesn't cater for our market, so best you go elsewhere to find this information.

  • Seems we’ve done a loop back to 2006 with these pay up front plans that Telstra keep putting up.

    • On the $85 plan with same amount of dara

      • Not bad dara inclusion
