Huawei E160E USB 3G Modem $19, Easy Unlock @DSE, with 2GB Starter Credit (30days)

390

This is the cheapest a USB 3G modem has been ever IIRC. It's locked to Boost, but can be easily unlocked. It is the Huawei E160E, which goes up to 3.6Mb/s. It is not usable on Telstra 850Mhz NEXT-G.

Post a thread here with the IMEI to request unlock, I have used this forum to ask for unlock code many times. http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f88/

Personally I feel that this is a strong deal for the usb modem, and if seeing this deal makes you mad, you can come at me brother.

It comes with 2GB quota and 15 SMS with 30 day expiry, but their rates are quite weak so I recommend switching to a cheaper carrier once this is used up.
Can also send SMS using cellular network.

      updated

      • Thanks. I got the $24 virgin one the other day. It came with 4gb which is pretty good if you are actually gonna use it.

  • Which network has the cheapest recharge options?

    • Dodo :) Haha. They probably would. It depends on your usage and if you need the credit to last longer than 30 days

  • have a look at www.exetel.com.au
    http://www.exetel.com.au/business-hspa-pricing.php
look at busma plan at the bottom
some cheap options also there in "residential plans" plus Exetel use optus network as well

  • "if seeing this deal makes you mad, you can come at me brother." What exactly does that mean? I haven't heard seen an OzBargain poster threaten other users before. Bizarre.

    • Where is the threat?

From a quick Google search: "“Come at me bro” is a confrontational catchphrase used to instigate a fight with another person. It’s typically used to convey that one will not physically initiate fight, but is willing to fight if the situation arises." It's a strange way to invite people to look at the bargain you've found and are willing to share with other OzBargain users. To me it's the equivalent of writing "if you don't like it, f#&k off" in a posting.

    • it's clearly just a play on the old "i'm new, please be nice" saying

Just unlocked my E160E using this site:
    http://www.mapmyplace.com/calc/hua.php

mine is from the last virgin deal @ $24.50

    Sweeeet.

  • It says 20 day expiry on mine D=

  • If you're a Vodafone customer then compare to the 4GB, $29/month, min 1 month plan, plus you can try for $84 cashback from Moneybackco (good luck) http://store.vodafone.com.au/mobile-broadband-mbb-plans-cust…

  • Bought a 3G modem from Crazy Johns yesterday, was $24.50 with 4gb of data (30 day expiry). Pretty good deal i though. But i probably would have got this one, cause it uses Optus, right? Whereas crazies uses Vodafone, which i've already tried in my area, and speed is OK.
Crazy John's have pretty cheap recharge pricing.

I wonder if i can get it unlocked from that same forum…?

  • It self-installs the software. The unlocking is easy. Just put any other provider SIM (non-Optus, non-Telstra) and a window will pop up. Enter the code and away you go. You can also insert a MicroSD card and it will become a storage device. Definitely a bargain, thanks to OP.
Now to wait for some good mobile broadband plan for an occasional user!

    • MicroSD is extremely slow though.. and I need help finding the generic dashboard =\ the HUAWEI site doesn't have it.. D=
