Guys any good deal for 2 in 1 xps which supports active pen? Is it as good as a surface or samsung… Need it for casual sketching /drawing…

  • Isn't this Inspiron better than XPS. It has everything better and lower price $1379 before any cashback
    https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/inspiron-13-700…

    • I've always been confused about the Inspiron vs XPS range… apart the XPS being their 'flagship'.
This one can also be used with the AUMPP100JUNE code too to save $100.

Anyone able to comment on Inspiron vs XPS?
Only benefit I can see for the XPS is it's size and weight

      Inspiron:
      309.7215.716.42mm at 1.4kg
      XPS:
      30420015mm at 1.2kg

You pay quite a premium for slimmed down laptops with smaller bezels. The guts are more or less the same, but the aesthetics and build quality differ.

I believe the screen on the XPS might be better also. Definitely some Inspirons have TN screens. But even the IPS ones are not the same quality as the ones in XPS.

        • +2

The Inspiron also has no Thunderbolt 3 and much lower battery capacity (38Wh vs 60Wh in the XPS)

      • I've had 3 Dell laptops in the past 12 years - 2 inspirons and 1 XPS. Inspirons lasted max 3 years (still have 1 which works as a backup). My XPS17 is still going strong 9th year running, love it. Anyday XPS over Inspiron, felt better build quality overall, XPS is more customisable to higher config too I think.

        • +1

You are right man, XPS beats Inspirons hands down, I know ppl look at specs sheet thinking Inspirion is better, but no. Older version tend to overheat fast, the fan is noisy, overheated keypads, Even you buying 2nd hand XPS which has been looked after, the quality is miles ahead is Inspirons. You can not underestimate that 0.3kg lighter when you go traveling, it would feel completely different.

  • Just FYI - Bought this last week, wait is around 2 weeks for delivery

  • Very cheap.

I got 9370 but wish I'd got this instead.

Finally joined Shopback. Have been previously loyal to Cashrewards - sorry. Now waiting for the new laptop. Thanks op.

  • Any memory upgrade option?

  • Should we see some indication during checkout that Shopback is overseeing the transaction or whatever it does?

    • +1

To follow this up and for those concerned, you can install the Shopback Chrome browser extension which lights up green when it's active for peace of mind.

  • Does anyone have any experience with this laptop running lightroom? In particular with only 8gb ram?

    • Lightroom recommends 12gb. You could get the Inspiron 13 7000 with better CPU, more storage, 16gb ram & touch screen for $1143.

BuyIfNeed linked it in the comments above.

  • This or the surface book?

Newer CPU here but not sure that means better battery life given the battery. And the surface book is touch I think?

    • +1

      I prefer the XPS

  • It's a shame that even after coupon and cashback the top of the line model is still more expensive compared to Dell eBay with 20% off. It's back waiting for a refurb 9360 in the outlet for me then.

Really good price for this particular model mind you.

  • is yoga 920 a better choice?

  • Does cashback apply on extended warranty too?

  • Macbook is so dead…

    • Not really.
There are plenty of apple fans who will refuse to change.

  • Dick Smith has XPS 13 2 in 1 Refurbished for $999. Are those machines worth spending extra for tablet mode and little old processor ( 7 Gen
    i7-7Y75)?

    • +3

      imo, no.

The only thing that makes it a 2-in-1 is that the screen folds back all the way. It's a bit big and thick for a tablet. And the reverse side has the keyboard in your hands. I know the keyboard is disabled, but feeling the pressable keys in your hands when in tablet mode just does not feel elegant at all.

If you want a 2-in-1 go for a Surface Pro or Surface Book, or Galaxy Book. You can remove the screen from the keyboard and use it like a real tablet, and it's thin and light. That's a true 2-in-1.

XPS 2-in-1 is just a regular laptop but with a weaker processor, and a hinge that lets you fold the screen all the way back. This isn't really a tablet.

      • Thanks for the feedback. I like the tent view of laptops ( X1 yoga, etc) and was about to buy Surfacebook, but scare stories for Surfacebook are quite a lot and I am thinking to get this one. XPS 13 looks great adn 2 in 1 is only 1.3 Kg, due to thinner processor even i7. this one is new, but almost $300 expensive.
X1 yoga is much more expensive….

I will have a look again and decide.

        • +1

if you're only using tent mode and doing light work, ok.

It's not a real i7. Last gen it would have been called Core M7.

1.3KG is a bit heavy for prolonged tablet mode use. Tent is obviously ok since it's on the desk.

If you don't like Surface Book, look into Surface Pro. But you'll need to buy the expensive keyboard cover and stylus separately.

With Samasung Galaxy Book both are included, and you have an OLED screen.

        • @lostn: Yea, but I am sure this processor is different compared to Core M7. Decisions decisions.
Let me have a quick look at galaxy book, but I am sure nothing can beat its price below $900

        • +1

@Gaggy: It is the successor to M7. Slight speed bump, typical Intel annual refresh.

You are comparing refurb prices to new.

Anyway, it does seem like it is what you want, so I'm not going to talk you out of it.

Galaxy Book uses i5, so price comparisons are not apples to apples.

There was a good deal on it with AMEX some time back though.

        • @lostn: Thanks. Appreciate your feedback and yes, you are right, processor is its weakest points, but they simply looks great and exactly what I am looking for. Samsung is not that good looking.

I am now more inclined back to previous generation SurfaceBook for $100 more compared to XPS.

        • @Gaggy: Fair enough.

If you did want to look into the Galaxy Book it can be had at Kogan for $1106 + shipping.

It has the nicest screen of any laptop/2-in-1/tablet I've seen because of the OLED. And of course it's light and thin, making it better than a laptop 2 in 1 for tablet mode use.

Surface Book is good, but I don't like that gap when it's closed.

        • @lostn: Yea, surfacebook looks a bit wierd, but I dont like surface pro like style in Samsung for keyboard making them difficult to use in a train or plane.
Other drawback is Samsung does not support pen for drawing or taking notes. Will have to decide between XPS and Surface book ( another decision to take brand new with no discrete card or refurbished with GTX 965M ( or older))
          Decision decision…..

          Got surface with GTX.

  • This seems like a pretty great deal for an XPS.

Was considering an E480 for $850~$900 with similiar specs, is the XPS worth the extra $250 or so for any reasons aside from size/weight?

    When does this run till?

    • I will buy the XPS, not promoting dell anyway, but I had a positive experience with them, that extra $250 is worth it

  • Do these have good resale value? Need to make some "business" purchases before year end

  • coil whine….

    • is that really that bad?

      • I've an older gen XPS, no coil whine for me.

PS: The coil whine issue was reported on the internet at that time as well.

Legit deal. Just bought it. Shopback already credited my account with $207. Total discount cost came to $1137. Great deal, good value

      Lucky you, I bought a 2nd hand xps 13 for $450

  • Installed the shopback chrome extension to make sure it was activated, clicked through and bought one and at the order confirmation page the page kept reloading and the shopbox extension had turned red (not activated).

Purchased on 1st July and Dell still hasn't assigned an order no. Really hoping it went through properly!
