  • Interested to know how it compares to the 65n7… is it still using Samsung panel?

    • I read somewhere (either here or whirlpool) that Hisense is manufacturing the panels for all 2018 models. They didn’t provide a link to back it up though.

      • They purchased Sharp and are indeed making their own panels

  • Also keen to find out how the P5 compares to the P7 and how N5 compares to N7. I get that the 5 is inferior to the 7 but I can't find out why/what makes them inferior. Does anyone know?

    • +1

I have the 55n5 and 65n7. The pricture is obviously better on the n7, everything looks crisp when watching 1080p off external HD or streaming 4K on Netflix.
The FTA channels also look a lot better on the n7. They use different panels (the 65n7 is using a Samsung one from memory). I’ve barely used the 55n5 as it’s mounted on the wall in my bed room, but I can’t really fault it tbh, it’s a nice tv and the picture quality is comparable to my parents old Sony Bravia they picked up for 5k

The 65n7 (and 55n7) use a Samsung panel, not sure what n5’s use but likely AUO or CME. with the n7 I believe is a 10bit panel (possibly 8+FRC) while he n5 is a 8bit panel. So basically better colour reproduction on the 7’s.

I think they may also be higher refresh rate from memory, but has been a while since I’ve compared.

      • IRC n5 is 1080p? n6 is the cheaper 4k model.

Edit: I stand corrected n4 is 1080p, my is 4k but doesn't have the better build (n6/n7) or the HDR (N7 as the HDR on n6 is miserable).
Having said that HDR on my wasn't that good either. Between the n6 and n7 my pick was n6 due to running much cooler and less lag when changing channels… Both PQ was subpar compared to other brands in the same price range.

    • P5 is entry level 4k. Most notable differences from p7 are:
      - Higher brightness on p7, makes HDR much more enjoyable
      - 120Hz panel vs 60Hz panel
      - Wide colour gamut, also makes HDR much better (although the p5 lists HDR10 support, despite no wide colour gamut but both claim to be 10 bit panels)
      - Local dimming on p7, if it works well it makes a big difference (n7 dimming was just passable)
      - p7 has one more HDMI port
